Battling Your Social Media Demons By Cassie White @cassie_white · On November 2, 2015
We’ve all experienced it: those pangs of jealousy and frustration while scrolling through an Instagram feed filled with super-fit people and their seemingly perfectly lives. Flick over to Facebook and it’s no different. It’s all green smoothies and workout gear, abundance bowls and sculpted abs. Meanwhile, we’re sitting on the couch in front of Netflix, feeling extra guilty for having skipped another day at the gym. Social media has become such an ingrained part of our lives that it’s hard to remember life before its existence. Now more than ever it’s easier to peek into other people’s lives – and compare them with our own. This can leave us feeling depressed and selfconscious . . . taking our frustrations out on a tub of rocky road ice-cream. Of course, we know nothing good can come of comparing ourselves with others, but it’s pretty hard to stop when confronted with it every day. The more we see of other people’s bikini bodies, beach holidays and designer lives, the less satisfied converted by Web2PDFConvert.com
we feel with our own. Try to remember this next time you glimpse into someone’s perfect life: people only show the world what they want it to see. How many bad hair days, bloated bellies or break-ups do you see? It’s not because they don’t happen. When you think of it like that, it doesn’t make sense to compare yourself to something that’s not actually real. No-one’s life is perfect. And when you spend your days wanting what someone else has, you lose sight of all the amazing things you have right in front of you. So here are my top tips for getting the most out of social media and rocking your own awesome life. 1. Just unfollow. Tailor-make your social media accounts to uplift and inspire you. Firstly, unfollow everyone and everything that makes you feel bad in any way. Now, fill your feeds with things that motivate you, teach you and make you laugh out loud. 2. Know what you’ve got. Write a list of everything you love in your life: friends, hobbies, family, work, coffee – whatever. Even if it seems insignificant, jot it down. Display it somewhere prominent, such as your fridge. It’ll be a daily reminder of just how great you already have it. 3. Be your own inspiration. If you’re struggling with self-love or body confidence, find a photo of yourself that represents the best version of you. Think of everything you were doing at that time in your life. How much of it are you doing now? What can you change? We don’t always need to be inspired by others – often, whatever we’re looking for is already there. Sometimes we just need to look within.
