B RO S .
Greetings Hereford Friends, Another chapter unfolds with this year’s Pride of the Pasture Sale upon us. While we remain committed to offering the quality and type of cattle that you have come to expect, we have changed a few aspects of this years’ sale. In this new chapter, we welcome Lamb Bros. Beef as our new partners. Lamb Bros. are progressive breeders, and we are excited to move forward with them in this new venture. Please make note of the change in time to 4p.m. and the new location, Gonzales Ranch, Freeport, IL. For those unable to attend in person we will once again be broadcasting on LiveAuctions.TV. As we turn the page with this 2010 sale, we would like to express our sincere thank you to Perks Ranch for an exceptional experience the past few years and wish them the best as they move forward with their program. Each year, we try to offer a few sale features. This year the features are plentiful and include several top cows that are proven donors or are donor quality, several matings to our two new bulls, Aces N Eights and Tailor Maid and a premier flush opportunity on our Erin 5040 Donor. The group of late spring and summer calves are very good. They are some of the best we have raised and should be considered for the 2011 show circuit. Our herd sires, Cutter and Bounty, played a large role in this year’s crop and did not disappoint. We sincerely thank all of our past customers for their support and interest in our program and our genetics. We invite each of you to join us for the sale festivities and one of our deepest sets of cows and heifers offered to date. Please call if we can assist with any directions, hotel reservations and certainly any questions that you have regarding the sale lots. On behalf of the Katzenberger Family and Plum River Ranch, we look forward to visiting with you on November 13th.

Sincerely,

Hi Folks, I would first like to thank the entire Katzenberger family for inviting our program to this sale. I have known the Katzenbergers to be good, honest people with an excellent program, and I am honored to be included in this sale. Our program consists of about 130 cows in Western Wisconsin. We were asked to bring our best to this sale and that is exactly what we are doing! In this group of cattle, we think we have something that fits everyone’s program. A group of heifers that will show and go on to be front pasture cows down the road. We had over 60 bull calves to pick from and we’re bringing our best two. Some bred heifers that will work anywhere as well as an excellent group of cows with some exciting pedigrees. 2010 has been an exciting year for us. Our partnership on the “Kamikazee” bull is a game changer for us and I can’t wait to see his calves start hitting the ground next year, as well as the partnership on “Big Country.” He has so much upside and we are all excited to see how far this bull can go! I want to thank my Hereford friends throughout the country for their friendship and support. I’m truly blessed to have so many good ears in my life. A big thank you to Fred and Jerry Larson for everything they have done for us over the years. You truly won’t meet a better family. I want to thank Lance. It’s hard for me to explain how far he has taken our program. Managing cattle, equipment, crops, and people is a very tough balance and this young man does a great job. His friendship and insight means a bunch to me. Thanks to Jared for all of his hard work in our tough Wisconsin winters. I want to thank my family for allowing me to always follow my dreams. My kid brother Ben is truly my right arm. Ben, Nicole and the kids have always put their love of the cattle first. Although my brother Matt isn’t always around for the dayto-day stuff, I couldn’t ask for a better big brother. He’s got a great family. My big Sis, Becky, and her kids have taken on a passion for showing the cattle, and I appreciate all of the sacrifices they have made. I want to thank my Mom and Dad, truly two of the toughest, most encouraging people I have ever met. Lastly, thank you to Jes, Ally, and Cade. Watching the world go by through Ally and Cade’s eyes everyday is what gets me out of bed and keeps me focused on all of God’s blessings. Looking forward to seeing you on the 13th! If you have any questions, just holler. Andy

• We lead off the catalog with two very nice June babies that could really stand some heat (in the heat) next summer. A flashy summer diva is what this girl is. Very stylish, up-headed and ready to strut her stuff in the show ring. Hanna Montana is one of our “Who’s Who” heifers with too many elite sires and dams to begin mentioning. A very respectable set of EPD’s and the notable Key Lady 56P add to the confidence in this purchase. Her sire, CLF GCC Cutter, was reserve champion bull over all breeds at the 2008 Wisconsin State Fair.

• Our only THM Durango 4037 daughter and one that we would like to have kept for a replacement in our own herd as a cow, but we don’t hold back the good ones. Lot 6 has an outstanding EPD package with virtually every EPD trait at or above the AHA average. Her dam has a lot of volume and has maintained herself while raising her first calf. We anticipate big things for us from this cow in the next few years. Destiny is polled, so you can’t “grab her by the horns” but you should enjoy the ride.

We realize that every heifer isn’t a contender for the show ring…but we still buy good ones if they have high quality attributes to make them valuable in other ways. What you need to know is that the dam of this heifer is a great milker and has an awesome udder. She also has the Dom bull as her sire that brings in a dose of 29F, which sweetens the next generation. We expect this heifer to make a beautiful cow for the conscientious buyer.

42749271 –– Calved: January 27, 2006 –– Tattoo: RWD10S • This lot 9 cow is a female that we really hoped to keep on the farm for some time. She was added and subtracted many times to the sale list and after much debate we left her in. This female needs to be a donor cow, as she has really done a fantastic job in just four years. We are so confident in her that we are reserving the right to 1 future flush and will even discuss purchasing back half interest in this lot 9 cow. Lot 9 stems from the late Rachel 24K donor. As a first calf heifer, 10S raised the Chipotle bull that sold ½ interest for $10,000 in the 2008 Legend Returns Sale. She certainly ranks as one of the top 19D females in production. Horned. • Her calf Lady Elegance is a very special heifer both in her presentation and her heritage. She is a power heifer that exhibits a beautiful front end with an extended neck, a wide top, good muscle expression, all with a fluid movement. She is a paternal sister to Alexis Butlers Cricket heifer that had great success showing as a calf and recently won several cow calf championships this past summer including the WI State Fair Jr Show. Lot 9A is one of the nicest late April calves you will find in a sale this fall and one that we would entertain showing for the new owner if they so desired. • The lot 9 cow’s 5/29/10 AI mating to Aces N Eights really excites us. We feel that this package is a big opportunity and certainly one of our sale features!

Her 2009 heifer calf was a feature in last year’s Top Cut Sale selling for $5000. Unfortunately for us, she had a bull calf, so odds are in your favor that she will drop a heifer next year for the new owner. This cow may have as much upside money-making potential as any in the sale. • Lot 16 cow was AI’d to BR DM Channing ET on 5/19/10.

• Ann was a former show heifer for Briana and campaigned heavily as a yearling, competing at every show at the top of her class, with the best in the nation. As a 2-year-old, she was named Champion cow-calf at the World Beef Expo. Ann is truly one of our sale features and a very hard female to part with. The hardest thing about selling her is the exciting mating to Gobles Aces N Eights 321W. We simply can’t flush every cow, but we will regret not flushing Ann before we sell her. Her dam 98K was a National Western Division Champion and only had two daughters, Ann 313N and a full sister 302N who is a donor in the DelHawk herd. A female in her prime…Should be a donor of her own… Don’t look past this one here. AI’d to the 2009 NAILE Reserve Bull Calf Champion Goble Aces N Eights 321W on 6/4/2010. Lot 23, STAR Spiridge Angela 306P, is a past donor for Star Lake and a high seller in their Big Cow Herd Sale for $30,000. She descends from a powerful family of donor females in Big T Lauren and Angel 357H. Both grand dams and two great grand dams were donors and mothers of sires like 29F, 46B, 19D and 832W. This 29F-bred female is good milking with a lot of capacity, and a big hip. Angel is a partnership donor female with Brown and Brown Farms, she should have many years left for her new owner. Check out her excellent EPD package, REA in the top 5% and YW, M and M&G in the top 10%.
