A special thank you to The Morrison and Foerster Foundation for partnering with the Castilleja community to support Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto.
After the global pandemic hit in 2020, we thought Dance Production Workshop (DPW) had tackled the most unexpected circumstances with our fully virtual show. However, this year we were thrown a curveball that we never saw coming. This fall, the teacher who has led DPW and Arts with a Heart for the last 17 years unexpectedly left the school. As Senior Executive Producers, we decided the show must go on—we care so deeply about the community our production builds and are committed to the show. So, we expanded our leadership capacities to take on new roles while juggling the challenges of senior year. This year, DPW has truly come together—all members of the class have practiced extreme flexibility, working in many production elements beyond where their expertise lay. DPW has never been more determined to bring joy to the Castilleja community and awareness about our chosen nonprofit. Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto (CLSEPA) has served as our motivator. We chose CLSEPA because they provide long-term, stable solutions to vulnerable members of our community, rather than quick, temporary fixes. They offer legal services under three main pillars: economic advancement, housing, and immigration. We admire their representatives’ work to help clients build sustainable, long-lasting connections within their community. We are so proud of every single member of the production team and cast, and we’re beyond excited for you to see this unique show we have created. We know you will see the passion for Arts with a Heart and CLSEPA’s work reflected in this year’s production.

Greetings to the Castilleja family! On behalf of our staff, board, and the communities we serve, we want to express our gratitude that you have chosen Community Legal Services in East Palo Alto as your 2022 Arts with a Heart beneficiary. It’s an honor to be selected by the young leaders at Castilleja. Your talent and dedication is admirable, and your vision clearly extends beyond your own circle of friendships to embrace society and demonstrate a commitment to the important social issues of our times. • • • Connections We at CLSEPA find it encouraging and heartwarming to know that local youth leaders have identified Connections as this year’s theme. During these pandemic years, it has become ever more apparent that we are all connected. Those of us who share the same Peninsula places and spaces have lives that are intertwined in many ways that go beyond geography. CLSEPA connects with local communities to offer a crucial lifeline for those who lack financial resources and often confront systemic patterns of injustice, providing advocacy for immigration, housing, and economic advancement rights. Each year, we provide transformative legal services to more than 8,000 people annually. • • • Joining Together The compassion and philanthropy demonstrated by Castilleja students invites connection and displays the potential to choreograph a better future for our world. Like tonight’s performance, AwaH makes it possible for individuals with diverse roles, skills, demographics, and purpose to join together, to cooperate, to move in harmony, to connect—indeed, to dance! Many thanks to you, Castilleja’s performer/philanthropists, and to the teachers, parents, staff, and families who support you!
With Gratitude,
