Pocket CV: What does the perfect CV look like?
01. What does the perfect CV look like?
One of the first things to consider when writing a CV is format. “There is no such thing as a single, standard CV,” explains Tijana, “CVs adapt to the particular role one is applying for, and their particular profession.” In general, you want to keep your CV concise. It shouldn’t exceed two pages, nor include any dramatic colouring and illegible fonts (Darshinee recommends using Times New Roman or Georgia, for example) to ease navigation for potential employers.

Additionally, you should organise your CV with clear sections. “Keep your font size between 10 and 12 points and ensure you can differentiate your headings using bold type and capital letters,” Darshinee emphasises.
To compliment your sections, include bullet points under headers so your CV does not read like an essay.
In terms of understanding expectations, an important factor to consider is the locality of the job role. “International standards vary greatly depending on best practices and local legislation,” Tijana begins, “In Germany it’s forbidden to ask for a photo of an applicant, whereas in the US a portrait is considered standard.” In Europe, Europass is a common format adopted to lay out a CV, but nowadays Tijana suggests these shouldn’t be used: “It is not widely accepted in the private sector anymore.”
