Digitisation of major services globally will drive the need for microservices architecture and their ability to be scalable and adaptable.

COVID-19 accelerated the rate that these changeovers from monolith were done within companies. Look at the big players in online Services & e-Commerce, COVID-19 was a mere bump in the road as they only needed to focus on expanding services to a larger and broader audience.

COVID-19 has forced the industry to work remotely, and in the next two years I see the industry adjusting to it. Many companies would love to have everyone back in the office when COVID-19 ends.

However, it is now a common request from industry professionals to ensure they are able to work from home at least two or three days per week, if not work completely remote.

Managers in IT will need to study and polish their best practices for Agile teams. Professionals who were overlooked in the past will become essential to the majority of IT teams such as DevOps, QA, Scrum Master, Product Owner, and more.

Smaller organisations will merge and consolidate with bigger companies that have successfully implemented these strategies.

Increased spending in digital transformation despite COVID-19, where software developers play a critical role.
