RONNIE WOOD INVITES…
John Pasche & Michael Donald
RONNIE WOOD INVITES… Ronnie Wood Invites... is the first in a series of exhibitions at Castle Fine Art, Bruton Street where Ronnie, our Artist-in-Residence, welcomes fellow artists to display their work. This exhibition showcases work by John Pasche, the designer of some of the most iconic imagery in the history of music, including the famous ‘Tongue and Lip’ logo that visually represents the Rolling Stones. On display will be the last two original limited edition Tongue and Lip prints along with a selection of Rolling Stones tour posters designed by Pasche in the early 70’s. Accompanying him, the award-winning photographer Michael Donald will be launching his new limited edition collection of photographs of the Rolling Stones. These were taken on set to coincide with the release of the ‘Stones in Exile’ documentary and they provide a unique perspective on the individuals that form the biggest band in the world.
Ronnie Wood Invites… Works by John Pasche and Michael Donald will be displayed at Castle Fine Art, Bruton Street from 4 - 23 February 2014.
JOHN PASCHE... John Pasche began his career as a designer studying at the Royal College of Art. Whilst still a student, Pasche was put forward by the rector who had been asked by Mick Jagger to recommend someone to create some designs for use on the forthcoming album, ‘Sticky Fingers’. The rest is history and the design is now considered one of the first instances of rock brand marketing, and is perhaps the most recognisable logo in the history of pop music. The now ubiquitous pop art design perfectly encapsulated Mick Jagger's sensuous lips and the band's rebelliousness and has been in continuous use by the Rolling Stones ever since. The original sketch was sold in 2008 to the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.

MICHAEL DONALD... Photographer Michael Donald has captured some of the world’s most famous faces and is known for his striking portraits of celebrities. In 2010, the band made the film Stones in Exile, to coincide with the re-release of their critically acclaimed studio album, Exile on Main Street. Donald shot portraits of the band, photographing Mick and Charlie at Stargroves, the house Mick owned in the 1970s where the Rolling Stones often recorded at this time. Keith was photographed in New York and Ronnie in London. The resulting images typify his photographic style, his subjects at once candid and personal, complex in their simplicity. The photograph of drummer Charlie Watts was exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery, London in 2010 as part of the Taylor Wessing Prize
