Park School Weekly Note & Reminders 9th June 2023
Castle

From Mr McKernan (Principal, Whole School)

Dear Parents,

I hope that everyone enjoyed the long weekend With each passing week, we are getting closer to the eagerly awaited summer holidays, and our school calendar is still as busy as ever

School Trips

All of our school trips this week centred around animals. On Wednesday, the children from our Early Years Department visited Glenroe Farm, where they had the opportunity to interact closely with all the farm animals As you will see from the photos below, the rabbits and guinea pigs received plenty of love and attention Visits like these greatly benefit our children by providing hands-on learning, fostering empathy and responsibility towards animals, promoting sensory exploration and appreciation for nature, encouraging physical activity and social interaction and cultivating valuable life skills

Our Form I class went to Newbridge Farm and were delighted to have Ms Prendergast join them on their adventure. They explored the farm and interacted with the animals gaining insights into animal care and agriculture. Ms Prendergast’s expertise in farm life proved invaluable, helping the children understand the significance of farming in our community

Finally, Form II visited Dublin Zoo, where the pupils explored the exhibits, learned about animal habitats, and gained an understanding of the importance of protecting wildlife and their environments

Wooly Farm Visit

Kindergarten 1 had a special visit on Friday from Wooly’s Mobile farm This highly interactive experience allows children to meet and handle farm animals in a safe and nurturing environment The small class size allowed for plenty of interaction with the animals, providing lots of photo opportunities –see the Picture Gallery.

Senior Summer Concert

This afternoon Form V & VI treated their family and friends to an impressive display of vocal and instrumental talents, including outstanding solos, duets and group performances. The concert not only celebrated the children's musical achievements but also highlighted the broader life skills they have acquired through their music lessons. The discipline, perseverance, and resilience they have developed as performers will undoubtedly benefit them in various aspects of their lives Congratulations to all the pupils who took part, and a special thanks to Ms McKiernan and the music teachers for preparing the children for their performances

The end-of-year Art Exhibition opened in 'The Street' earlier today The exhibition showcases the artwork our pupils have undertaken during this academic year and demonstrates the diverse range of skills and techniques they have developed. The principle of celebrating each child's work is a strong tradition of the School, and we invite all parents attending Sports Day to come in and look at the beautiful pieces on display The exhibition will continue next week after drop-off in the mornings and from 3:30 pm in the afternoons Many thanks to Ms O'Neill for organising this wonderful event

The children in Form IV made drawings of famous buildings around the world They then used a viewfinder to select an interesting part of their drawing and enlarge it. This artwork was created using chalk lines and paint. Black drawing ink was applied and later washed off to achieve a 'batik' effect

The month of May saw more avid writers at Castle Park fill my desk with exemplars of their writings as they vied for the coveted title of 'Writer of the Month'. Our pupils have displayed an incredible amount of creativity and talent, and I am genuinely impressed with the quality of the writing that has been submitted. Each month I feel privileged to read such wonderful pieces of writing from pupils across all of our year groups.

I would like to thank the pupils who took the time to participate in this month's competition. Furthermore, I congratulate our winners for their outstanding writing pieces published HERE in our 'Writer of the Month Magazine'. Prepare to be amazed by the skill and imagination that these young writers possess.

News from Killary - Ms. Geraghty

Form VI pupils had a memorable and exciting trip to Killary Adventure Centre in Co. Galway last week. They created lasting memories as they prepared for the next phase of their education. All the pupils conducted themselves admirably from start to finish and should be very proud of their successes in further developing skills such as resilience,perseverance,teamworkandself-management.

On Monday morning, unlike any other, we arrived at school with our bags packed, ready for the exciting adventure that lay ahead. The bus journey was long but worthwhile, as we left behind the noise of the city and embraced the beautiful scenic sights which the Wild Atlantic Way has to offer. Arriving at Killary, we were amazed by the centre's stunning location, overlooking the mountains of Connemara and the picturesque Killary Fjord. We were greeted by the camp manager, who talked us through our daily routines and showed us to our rooms. Settling in, we made ourselves at home and got ready for aneveningoffunactivities, entertainmentandhotchocolatebeforebed!

We participated in many activities at Killary; Abseiling, Archery, Raft Building, Kayaking and Paddle Boarding. However, the standout challenge that left a lasting impression on all of the pupils was, hands down, the famous Turf Challenge! Many laughs were had, and teamwork was required as pupils climbed over walls, scrambled under cargo nets, slid down tubes and swung on ropes to get from obstacle to obstacle: a thoroughly enjoyableexperienceandanotablehighlightformany.

Some responses from the Form VI students, when asked about their Killary experience, include:

"I absolutely loved the Bog Run Challenge! Getting into the mud and racing through the obstacles was so much fun. I had so much fun laughing with my friends and participatingaspartofateam." - MatthewVI-P.

"I really enjoyed the water activities! Every single activity we participated in was so much fun. From the bog run to the giant paddle board, it was clear everyone really enjoyedtheexperience!" - FreyaVI-C.

Overall, the week in Killary was filled with excitement and adventure, providing the pupils of Form VI with an unforgettable experience. Congratulations, Form VI for your outstandingeffortsandachievements-Welldone!
