All about Writers of the Month

Welcome to this year ’ s first issue of ‘Writers of the Month’. ‘Writers of the Month’ was created to celebrate the wonderful writing skills displayed by pupils in our classrooms on a daily basis. It aims to recognise and commend the efforts of pupils who are striving to improve their vocabulary, perfect their punctuation or improve their overall presentation.

Children can submit a piece of writing they have worked on, in class, during the month. It could be a piece they are particularly proud of or a piece that shows they have achieved their current writing target.

How can you become Writer of the Month?

Work towards your personal writing target.

Take some time to read over your writing and correct any mistakes.

Think about the words you are using; could you use a better word?

Look at the success criteria for your piece of writing; have you worked to add all of this to your writing?

Read. The more you read, the more you will be exposed to new vocabulary in context and the more words you will learn.

Write at home. Create your own stories and write for enjoyment. This will help you with your next piece of writing in class.
