astrol has celebrated with Ford Performance Racing after the Castrol-backed factory Ford team finished one-two for Sunday’s 78-lap race at the Clipsal 500 – Round 1 of the 2012 International V8 Supercars Championship. Will Davison was unstoppable around the streets of Adelaide securing his first win with FPR and first around the tricky circuit in the #6 Trading Post FPR Ford. “This is a very special day for me and the team,” commented Davison. “It was a huge effort by the boys to finish one-two and it’s my first win since Bathurst in 2009 so I’m extremely happy right now. “It’s not just for me and the team, all of our sponsors and partners can share in this success. It is great to know that when I’m charging around for 250km in hot conditions, without a Safety Car that I have Castrol EDGE protecting the Ford engine. It’s hot work out there. Our race engines are pushed to the limit, as we are physically.” Team-mate Mark Winterbottom was also in fine form and the only driver to match the speed of his Castrol-backed FPR team-mate but was caught up in pit lane traffic and eventually finished second, three seconds behind. “That was a massive effort by the team and congratulations to Will on his first win with FPR,” Frosty said. “After a bit of a struggle with strategy on Saturday it’s great to know we have the pace and all the pieces to be winning from the word go – it’s going to be an exciting year ahead!” The results see Davison leading the V8 Supercars Championship with 2011
Castrol duo ta Champion Jamie Whincup in second after his race win on Saturday. Garth Tander sits third in the drivers’ standings with Winterbottom in fourth and Craig Lowndes rounding out the top-5. The next best placed Castrol supported driver is Rick Kelly of Kelly Racing whose seventh place finish on Saturday sees him head to the next round ninth in the Championship. Team-mate and brother Todd also scored well for the Castrol-backed Kelly Racing outfit with an eighth place finish for Race 1 but mechanical troubles in Race 2 saw him finish 23rd to the end the weekend 13th in the Championship. To kick off his re-enforcement tour
Russell ‘The Enforcer’ Ingall scored a ‘spooky’ 13th and 13th for both races, scoring 66 points in each race in his #66 Supercheap Auto Racing Commodore! The Enforcer has started his campaign strong and currently lies 12th in the overall standings. Tony D’Alberto kicked his 2012 season off in a strong fashion by finishing Sunday’s race 12th in his Castrolsupported FPR-build Falcon. New to The BottleO Racing team and on debut with FPR, David Reynolds show impressive form over the weekend including a fastest session time for Practice 1 on Friday. Unfortunately a failed cool-suit during Race 1 saw Reynolds lose concentration and smack hard into the
take 1-2 wall at turn 8 while running in sixth position. However he bounced back to score a seventh place finish on Sunday to move up to 19th in the Championship. The two remaining Castrol-backed cars in the V8 Supercars field at the Clipsal 500 were Karl Reindler and Greg Murphy in the Pepsi Commodore. Reindler finished the round 21st in the Championship but unfortunately for Murphy an uncanny accident during Qualifying for Race 2 forced him out of Sunday’s race altogether as he has to settle for 26th in the Championship on 33 points. Castrol ambassador Steven Richards got off to a flying start finishing third in Friday’s twilight

I felt fresh and strong in both races and the guys have worked well all weekend.” His teammate Hiroshi Aoyama took to his debut World Superbike round strongly, producing two top ten results despite struggling in qualifying he was able to push through to eighth place in race one and ninth place in the second race.
Aoyama was happy with his first Superbike performance but like his teammate he was looking to the future, he said, “it was a tough weekend but it ended up not too bad, I’m looking forward to the next race in Imola. “We have month to improve the bike a little bit and, if I can find a better feeling, I can push a little bit more and this is what I am looking for.” The pair will next tackle Imola in the series, Rea and Aoyama currently sit strongly in the championship standings with Rea in fifth and Aoyama in ninth.

Force V Force Courtney and John Force had to face the inevitable a little earlier than they would have anticipated in the 23-year-old Funny Car rookie’s career - a father vs daughter monster race. In just her second event in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, the Castrolbacked racers had to face off in the first round - and it was the younger Force that prevailed.
Prior to the event, John had stated that there was ‘no way’ Courtney would repeat the dose elder sister, Ashley Force-Hood had delivered to the old man in their first match up, however, after winning the Winternationals, Force had to watch the Gatornationals from the sidelines after Courtney claimed her first major scalp in the TRAXXAS machine. Despite her successful performance, Courtney had reservations about beating
the family patriarch and team owner, she said, “I hate beating him (John Force). “He is my dad and I have dreamed about racing him for such a long time, the fact that I can go out there against him first round was pretty amazing.” In further good news for the team, Robert Hight made it two race wins in succession for Castrol GTX-backed JFR, taking out the Phoenix event.

Rally Mexico will be the first gravel rally of the 2012 season and the Ford duo are keen to bring the same level of success on the gravel roads the team saw at the end of 2011. Factory drivers Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila, and team-mates Petter Solberg and Chris Patterson are fresh from their Ford podium clean sweep in Sweden. The pair are expected to have no issues acclimatising to the
vastly different conditions with both having plenty of Mexican experience on which to draw on. Latvala has two third places from his five starts, while Solberg won in 2005 and has twice finished second. Mexico will be crucial for the teams’ championship hopes and a potential indicator of the next few rounds with Rally Mexico the first of six consecutive gravel rallies.
