day two of the Castrol EDGE Super Special Stage when many of the field limped into start control after the conditions culled a large percentage of the field.
The Ford duo were victorious after Rally Australia delivered numerous victims in the treacherous conditions, resulting in the clear use of team orders throughout the field.
With the Citroen pair striking disaster on Friday, the focus shifted to the Ford duo of Hirvonen and Latvala. Ford also instigated team orders with Latvala playing road sweeper for Hirvonen and subsequently slowing to finish behind him.
The effect of the conditions were felt on
Privateer Petter Solberg finished third.
Castrol EDGE-backed Ford Abu Dhabi teammate Khlaid Al Qassimi also had a phenomenal round finishing in a personal best position of fifth for the round, an encouraging feat for the young driver who has struggled to finish in the top 10 throughout the season. Rally Australia produced a crushing result for the Ford team with Hirvonen and Latvala, Hirvonen successfully pushing Ogier out of second in the championship, and now just 15 points behind Loeb and

RICHO’S DOUBLE DUTY Steven Richards is set for a busy weekend at Phillip Island, racing in both his Laser Racing Porsche Carrera Cup machine and as the endurance partner of the Castrol-backed FPR team with Mark Winterbottom in the Orrcon Steel Falcon. The two are due to pair up in the brand new #5 Orrcon Steel backed FPR Falcon which is ready to be unveiled for its maiden race at Phillip Island. Richards sits fourth in the Carrera Cup Championship and has the opportunity to fight back to the top of the ladder post Phillip Island.
DAMAGE COSTS AUDI The Audi pair of Timo Bernhard and Marcel Fassler were pipped at the post with Peugeot taking the 6 Hours of Silverstone Le Mans win over the weekend. Bernhard and Fassler were trading positions with Peugeot’s Sebastien Bourdais and Simon Pagenaud throughout the race, keeping pace with them and keeping the Audi and Peugeot rivalry in fierce contention.
The Audi team were unable to avoid a late pitstop to fix rear end damage, and despite the Audi pit crew’s phenomenal effort to get the car out within a minute, it was enough to keep the Peugeot pair safely in first. Following their rivals, Bernhard and Fassler finished just under one and a half minutes behind first place but almost five laps ahead of the rest of the field.

The Shannon’s Supercar Showdown is down to the wire with only three contestants left in the running to drive with Grant Denyer in the Bathurst 1000. The trio, driver trainer Samantha Reid, Formula Ford series leader Cameron Waters and Brit Andrew Jordan are the final three vying for the coveted spot in the Kelly Racing Shannons-Mars V8 Supercar entry. Castrol EDGE has been behind the Kelly Racing team since it’s inception and will be a prominent supporter of the car piloted by Grant Denyer and the winner. With Reid flying the flag for female racing drivers, the competition is heating up between the boys and the South Aussie; all three contestants have successfully negotiated the rigors of the competition, making it difficult to determine a front runner. Viewers will have to tune in to the Shannon’s Supercar showdown, airing Sundays at 5.00pm on 7mate to catch the next nail biting chapter.

TRUST SYNTHETICS TRUST CASTROL EDGE THE SPECIALISTS WHEN IT COMES TO EXTREME POWER & PERFORMANCE WHY SYNTHETIC OILS?
Get the best protection for your engine by choosing a high quality synthetic oil. Synthetic oils offer significant advantages over mineral oils.
HIGH TEMPERATURE STABILITY: Synthetic oils are able to withstand higher operating temperatures under which mineral oils begin to break down. Synthetic oils provide optimum lubrication at extreme temperatures reducing wear and extending engine life.
FASTER LUBRICATION ON COLD STARTS: Synthetic oils remain more fluid at cold start up temperatures, circulating faster to protect moving parts within the engine. Because synthetic oils flow quicker, the engine reaches optimal operating efficiency sooner. Mineral oils on the other hand, tend to thicken in colder temperatures making the engine less efficient.
BETTER EVERYDAY PROTECTION: Synthetic oils are most resistant to the chemical degradation that comes with everyday driving. Synthetic oils provide better protection for your engine under normal as well as arduous driving conditions, minimising oil degradation and protecting against harmful deposits.

WHY CASTROL EDGE?
At Castrol we know a thing or two about synthetic engine oil. In fact, we developed the very first fully synthetic racing oil. We’ve poured over 100 years of experience and lubricant technology into Castrol EDGE, the best engine oil we’ve ever made.
PROVEN PERFORMANCE IN EXTREME CONDITIONS: Castrol EDGE is able to withstand higher operating temperatures under which other engine oils begin to break down. Tests prove that even after blasting an engine at 340ºC, it is still running 72 hours later. Castrol EDGE will also protect your engine at start up with its superior cold flow properties. At -55ºC Castrol EDGE still flows while the competitor synthetic oil has almost solidified. Castrol EDGE’s synthetic technology provides outstanding protection at extreme temperatures, reducing wear and extending the life of your engine.
MAXIMUM POWER FOR LONGER: Get the best performance out of your engine by choosing Castrol EDGE. Tests prove that Castrol EDGE delivers maximum horsepower for up to 45% longer than competitor synthetic oils.

Wallabies World Cup Fever
The Castrol EDGE backed Wallabies have kicked off their World Cup campaign with a decisive victory over Italy in their opening pool C match, defeating them 32-6 in Auckland. The Australians and Italians provided a lacklustre first half, going into the break six all, however in their first game after their Tri-Nations victory they emerged reenergized and scored an unanswered 26 points to secure the win and Pool C points. The win means that Australia is already well on their way to leading Pool C thanks to captain, James Horwill who pulled the team together to dominate the second half. The Australians will have to move past the others in their Pool – which includes Ireland, Italy, Russia and the USA to be in contention for the World Cup; they take on the remaining three teams over the next two weeks before hopefully moving on in the competition. The blockbusting clash between Australia and Ireland will take place on Saturday evening at 6:30pm AEST – Australia sits one point atop the Irish in Pool C thanks to a bonus point scored over the Italians.

SHAKEUP AT SANDOWN
Jack LeBrocq has taken his maiden Australian Formula Ford Championship round win – as he and Nick Foster put pressure on series leader Cameron Waters after Round 5 of the Castrol EDGE-backed Series at Sandown in Melbourne. After a strong Friday practice Nick Foster was able to take the race one win on Saturday after pole-sitter Cameron Waters had an incident pushing him down the field, before recovering to fourth.
Foster went on to claim the second race win on Saturday – doing his Championship chances no harm. Sunday’s race saw Waters cross the line in first place however he was relegated to fourth because of a safety car infraction, giving LeBrocq his maiden race win. Foster was allocated third place for the round, boosting his and LeBrocq’s championship hopes; Foster and LeBrocq are currently trailing Waters in the championship.
