CASTROL CREWS MIXED RUN AT SYDNEY MOTORSPORT PARK Castrol-oiled V8 Supercars teams drove away with mixed results from the ninth round of the championship at Sydney Motorsport Park over the weekend. Ford Pepsi Max Crew driver Chaz Mostert secured the top result for a Castrolbacked entry with a second place finish during Saturday’s second sprint race. He picked his way through the field and up to third late in the race before making his main move at the final restart where he jumped series leader Jamie Whincup and almost overtook eventual race winner Shane van Gisbergen.
restart after the final safety car. I stuck on the back of Shane but I couldn’t quite get him in the end. It was just fantastic to give him a nice hot run and hopefully it made good TV. I now have my first second place so I’ve completed the box set of podium places which is nice too.”
James Moffat led the Castrol-oiled Nissan Motorsport charge home with a fabulous fourth place finish at Sydney Motorsport Park on Sunday. The #360 Norton Nissan driver qualified an impressive fifth to eventually finish the weekend with a season best result. The top finish added
“I was quite surprised to be up that far after qualifying so bad. In the first race we had no real pace at all but it was a big turnaround for the Ford Pepsi Max Crew,” said Mostert. “I am a bit over 12 months into the category now and it is awesome to follow these guys [Van Gisbergen and Whincup] around and try and pick up what they do so I can improve. I knew Jamie might’ve been thinking about the championship and I just had a really good

to his 13th and sixth place finishes in the two wet races on Saturday. “Fourth is a very positive day – just missed the podium – and we bag a big punch of points,” said Moffat. Castrol EDGE-backed Supercheap Auto Racing driver Tim Slade had a horror weekend with a DNF in the opening race with the damage to his Commodore forcing him out for the weekend. The next event of the V8 Supercars Championship will mark the beginning of the Pirtek Enduro Cup, starting with the Sandown 500 in Melbourne.

CASTROL-BACKED FORCE RUNNER-UP AT US NATIONALS John Force has driven his Castrol GTX High Mileage Mustang to his eighth final round appearance at the prestigious and iconic 60th annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals and his sixth appearance in a row, this season. The reigning NHRA Funny Car champion faced some tough competitors on his way to a final round match-up with Alexis DeJoria.
“Their crew chiefs ran side-by-side with our crew chiefs and we had two good hot rods,” said Force. “She was a click faster but that shouldn’t have been enough but it was. I’ve watched her lights for month and she was on her
game today. She had that .037 light and God bless her, she sets to dance tonight and drink with papa and her husband so we congratulate her, she’s a great kid. We need women in our sport so I’m really proud of her,” Force added.
In that epic final match-up, both Funny Cars and their teams were on their game. As the Christmas tree flashed green, both cars took off with DeJoria getting a slight starting line advantage. Force’s Mustang was in hot pursuit and making up ground as his 8000 horsepower BOSS 500 engine was working overtime. Force was closing in quickly but DeJoria got to the finish line first. Force’s Castrol GTX High Mileage Mustang turned-in a 4.039 second pass at 319.67 mph to DeJoria’s 4.038 at 310.34 mph.

Courtney Force will go into the 2014 NHRA Countdown to the Championship in the No. 6 spot after going to the semi-finals at the 60th annual Chevrolet Performance NHRA Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway, the last event in the NHRA regular season. The 26-year-old qualified in the No. 3 spot with a career-best 4.005 from Sunday’s qualifying on new track record speed 322.73 mph. Brittany Force was hoping the prestigious and iconic 60th annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals would have been the breakout race for the Castrol EDGE team to claim their first victory. Qualifying seventh and looking strong with her 10,000 horsepower BOSS 500 engine, unfortunately she lost in the opening round in what could best be described as a “pedal fest” to threetime world champion Larry Dixon.
sixty feet out. I got out of the throttle, got back into it and started to hook up and then it just became a pedal fest,” added Brittany, a three-time finalist. Brittany Force leaves the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals still in the Countdown to the Championship and in the 9th spot. The Castrol EDGE team will get the weekend off from the grueling NHRA schedule and before heading to the 7th annual Pep Boys Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway.

“It’s always hard to lose, especially in the first round here at the NHRA U.S. Nationals,” said Brittany. “My team was so pumped up for today’s eliminations we were ready to go rounds so it’s definitely difficult to go out early. CASTROL-OILED BLOODHOUND GETS A SPECIAL V8 VISITOR As the exciting 1,000mph Bloodhound SSC project gets ever closer to completion, Castrol-backed Nissan Motorsport V8 Supercars driver Rick Kelly was able to see the project for himself when Bloodhound Chief Engineer Mark Chapman gave him a tour of the workshop. “I was very excited to be shown around by the chief engineer” said Kelly. “I was like a kid in a candy store the whole time! This really is a fantastic project – one that I have followed for some time. Congrats on Castrol’s involvement in it, not only from the point of view of being part of a project that creates significant history, but also the strong focus on education,” he said.
Castrol provide high performance lubricants, brake and hydraulic fluids for use in the BLOODHOUND Supersonic Car - the 1,000 mph Land Speed racing car now being constructed in Bristol, UK. The new 135,000 thrust hp racing car will use a variety of state of the art Castrol products during testing and record attempts, including the company’s strongest ever engine oil - Castrol EDGE, motorsport formula brake fluid - Castrol React SRF and Castrol hydraulic fluids previously used by NASA.

CASTROL EDGE-OILED ŠKODA SECOND IN CZECH RALLY Castrol EDGE-oiled ŠKODA driver Sepp Wiegand has finished a well fought second at the Barum Czech Rally Zlín - round 8 of the FIA European Rally Championship. His teammate Esapekka Lappi continues to lead the ERC standings with three rounds remaining with Wiegand hot on the tail of the Finn. “Congratulations to Sepp Wiegand and Frank Christian after their strong performance at this rally they have expanded their second position in the overall standings,” said ŠKODA Motorsport Director Michal Hrabánek. Wiegand beat Tomáš Kostka to the runner-up spot by 0.2s in a thrilling finish. Wiegand was unhappy after
being unintentionally delayed behind Robert Consani’s slowing Peugeot 207 S2000 on stage 14 but his secondplace finish means he closes the gap to ŠKODA team-mate Esapekka Lappi in the race to become European champion. “Before the rally I knew the rally is really difficult. The roads are really challenging and I also saw the entry list for this rally with really good drivers here,” said Wiegand. “Before the start, to be honest, I don’t expect to finish on the second place but with second place I am really, really happy especially on the last stage when we won by 0.2s in front of Tomáš Kostka. It was a surprise after a difficult rally for us but we did no
mistake. For sure the favourites having problems helped but this is part of the rally and we did a clever rally with no mistakes. I’m really happy to finish in the second place on this difficult rally.” Round 9 of the FIA ERC takes crews to the Cyprus Rally - 19-21 September 2014. 2014 ERC standings Pos
