Il mercato chiede qualità, innovazione, risposte ai problemi, capacità di servizio e soluzioni ad elevata profittabilità. Se un’impresa è in grado di muoversi lungo questa direzione, il successo è assicurato.

OMET lo sta facendo, e i risultati si vedono. Dalla Drupa di Düsseldorf nuovi importanti riconoscimenti sono venuti alla capacità di innovazione di questa azienda: conferme di un ruolo, ormai internazionale, che OMET è andata a conseguire grazie ai suoi prodotti e alle sue tecnologie.

La diversità del loro funzionamento rispetto ai corrispondenti inchiostri all’acqua e a solvente risiede nella loro stessa formulazione e si traduce in un differente meccanismo di essicazione. Nel caso degli inchiostri liquidi, l’essicazione è di tipo fisica: il film di inchiostro si solidifica, cioè, per semplice separazione dei suoi componenti (per esempio per evaporazione dei solventi/acqua) senza una trasformazione chimica del legante.

Negli inchiostri UV, invece, si ha un’essicazione chimica, basata su una trasformazione del legante mediante un processo di polimerizzazione: in questo modo si formano delle macro-molecole che modificano le proprietà chimicofisiche iniziali del film umido. Le radiazioni UV sono infatti così ricche di energia da generare processi di polimerizzazione basati su reazioni fotochimiche.

La polimerizzazione UV inizia grazie alla energia assorbita da specifici gruppi di molecole chiamate fotoiniziatori: queste si decompongono in radicali reattivi, dando così inizio a una polimerizzazione a catena delle molecole insature presenti nel legante. In frazioni di secondi si formano dei legami tridimensionali tra le molecole che trasformano il legante liquido in un film solido.

Emerge dunque con evidenza come l’assenza di solventi e l’essiccazione istantanea siano i principali fattori competitivi degli inchiostri flexo-UV, che consentono una elevata qualità di stampa e una grande economia applicativa.

Ma i vantaggi di questi inchiostri non si fermano qui. Poichè gli inchiostri flexo-UV sono un sistema al 100% in solidi (non contenendo componenti volatili), essi presentano un’alta pigmentazione: la resa cromatica è quindi superiore ai corrispondenti inchiostri all’acqua o a solvente. La quantità applicata corrisponde al film essiccato: il risultato è pertanto una densità cromatica simile a quella che si ottiene in offset o in tipografia.

Per lo stesso motivo le loro caratteristiche fisiche rimangono inalterate finchè non vengono polimerizzati. Questo significa una qualità di stampa costante per tutta la tiratura, che non risente delle variazioni di viscosità derivanti dalla temperatura e dalla velocità. In questo modo i tempi di avviamento e gli scarti vengono ridotti.

Essiccando istantaneamente gli inchiostri flexo-UV danno luogo a una bassa penetrazione nel supporto di stampa, quindi il “ dot-gain ” è molto ridotto rispetto a un corrispondente inchiostro flexo-acqua. Tutto questo permette di stampare immagini ad alta definizione con retinature molto fini e con zone di chiaro-scuro meglio definite. Ancora, vanno evidenziate la buona adesione su una vasta gamma di supporti (carta, cartone e film plastici), la buona resistenza allo sfregamento e al graffio, la buona resistenza al prodotto (acqua, olio, alcool) e l’elevata versatilità applicativa.

AT THE BASE OF THE SUCCESS OF FLEXOGRAPHY AND ITS COMPETITIVENESS COMPARED TO OTHER PRINTING SYSTEMS THERE ARE THE FEATURES OF THE EMPLOYED UV INKS.

Once associated to medium-low quality jobs, flexography has rightly become a highly competitive printing system today, in which quality and flexibility merge. At the base of this evolution and the numerous advantages presented by this system, compared for example to off-set print, there are first of all the UV inks used by it.

The point of difference in their working, compared to the relevant water and solvent-based inks, lies in their own formulation and translates itself into a different drying mechanism. In the case of liquid inks, drying is of physical type: the ink film hardens owing to a simple separation of its components (for instance due to evaporation of the solvents/water) without a chemical transformation of the binder.

In UV inks, on the contrary, a chemical drying occurs based on a binder transformation through a polymerizing process: in such a way some macro-molecules form and modify the initial chemical physical properties of the damp film. UV radiations are namely so rich in energy to generate polymerizing processes based on photochemical reactions. UV polymerization starts thanks to the energy absorbed by specific groups of molecules called photo-initiators: they decompose in reactive radicals, starting a chain polymerization of the unsaturated molecules that are present in the binder. In fractions of seconds three-dimensional bindings form among the molecules transforming the liquid binder into solid film.

It becomes evident how the absence of solvents and instantaneous drying are the main competitive factors of flexo-UV inks, allowing a high print quality and a large application economy.

But the advantages of such inks do not stop here. Since flexo-UV inks are a 100% solid system (not containing volatile components), they show a high pigmentation: the chromatic yield is then higher than the corresponding water or solvent-based inks. The applied quantity corresponds to the dried film: the result is a chromatic density similar to those obtained in offset or letterprint.

For the same reason their physical features remain unaltered until they are polymerized. That means a constant print quality for the whole run, which is not affected by viscosity variations deriving from temperature and speed. In such a way, start-up times and wastes are reduced.

Instantaneously drying, flexo-UV inks have a low penetration into the print support and the so-called “dot gain� is very reduced compared to a corresponding flexo-water ink. All that allows printing high-definition images with very thin screening and better defined clear-dark areas. Again, we have to highlight the good adhesion on a wide range of supports (paper, carton and plastic films), the good rubbing and scratching resistance, the good product resistance (water, oil, alcohol) and the high application versatility.

ThermoFlex è disponibile in formati diversi: Narrow per la banda stretta, Mid adatto sia agli imballaggi flessibili che alle etichette e Wide per i grandi formati.
