BEHINDTHESCENES Ideas, creativity, art, the rush of irrationality‌ these are concepts that have fascinated humans for ages. Nature, wind, water, stones, earth‌the elements of our surroundings, the rugged aspects of our world. Mountain biking is the catalyst by which these physical and intellectual elements interact, creating the passion that drives us. This is what motivates us day in and day out to bring you the best products. The technology, science, analysis, software, lab & field tests, engineers, and chemical formulations have but one goal: to deliver that epic, fluid ride on your favorite piece of single track. Enjoy your tyres. Enjoy your riding.

The idea for a new tread may come at any time: often on the race tracks, talking with the racers, or when chatting with the sales reps, when biking or drinking a beer with MTB enthusiasts... and it is hastily scribbled down on a piece of paper before the idea disappears.

Using a 3D design software, we produce a virtual prototype for simulation of the look of the tread, the computer is letting us alter the dimensions at will.

Physical prototypes can then be produced in a polymer materials, so we can physically “feel the tread and more easily make a note of the changes needed.

Through highly sophisticated computer programs, imperfect geometries and weak designs are brought to light, solved, then optimized. Deformation and strength properties are analyzed equally, and with the final analysis, we create the best chemical compound formulation for the specified geometry.

Having decided the tread profile and the shape/spacing of the knobs, the next stage is the formal technical drawing, needed to create the tyre mould.

The mould gives us the prototypes of the new tyre: after a few months of tough field testing in the field to find the best compound/casing combinations, the new tyre is finally ready for its public debut.

The AKA PLUMA is the peak of Geax’s technology when it comes to racing tyres. 220Tpi nylon casing directly derived from road racing developement (because those guys know a thing or two regarding speed) mated to proven Geax compound technology was specifically designed for being the FASTEST XC tyre on the market. XC racing is where it belongs, here it’s all about speed and low rolling resistance. Only for dry and hard packed conditions, the short central knobs provide quick acceleration/deceleration and keep weight and rolling resistance low, while more aggressive side knobs handle the corners. Available in: 26” (Fold) Weight: 295g (see table at p.48)

The new Mezcal facilitates speed due to its modified semi-slick design, and confidence inspiring cornering thanks to side knobs derived directly from those of the Gato. Built using usespecific compounds and casings, it will carry speed through technical sections whether wet or dry, making it an extraordinary all-rounder weapon for XC racing. Available in: TNT, Fold & Rigid Weight: from 450g (see table at p.48) (Mezcal 26x2.30 p.16)

The Barro Race was specifically designed for XC racing where speed and low rolling resistance are key factors. Best in dry and hard packed conditions, the short central knobs provide quick acceleration/ deceleration and keep weights and rolling resistance low, while more aggressive side knobs handle the corners. Available in: 26 (TNT, Fold, Tubular) & 29 (TNT, Fold) Weight: from 380g (see table at p.48)

The Saguaro strikes a beautiful balance of versatility and performance. Featuring a pattern that falls nicely between the Mezcal and the Barro Mountain, the Saguaro rolls fast and bites hard. PITSTOP (inflates, seals and prevents) PITSTOP TNT (seals and prevents) PITSTOP TNT EVO (race) ✔ The Pit Stop has been conceived to act as an immediate and quick device to repair punctures on spot. However, it does function also as a preventive foam. Let’s see how. Pit Stop is made of CO2 and latex. The cartridge injects latex foam at a high pressure into the tyre with two main results: the tyre is inflated (from 0 to 2 bar) and the puncture is repaired. All in 30-40 seconds. The foam inside takes 2-3 months to dry up (more if the environmental conditions are good), and during this time the liquid keeps working as preventive against puncures and cuts up to 1 mm. ✔ Pit Stop TNT has been created for 2 demands: do not waste one Pit Stop cartridge for using it as a preventive and give a liquid alternative to GTT that can seal and keep air, and it last as a preventive exactly as the Pit Stop cartridge! ✔ Pit Stop, with its 60 g per cartridge, is the lightest inflate and repair product on the market, adding only 35 g (final weight of latex injected) per wheel. One cartridge is good for one tyre. With Pit Stop TNT you can add your ideal latex quantity, we suggest always to put 35 g that you can measure with the graduated bottle cup. Which is best? It depends on the application. For absolute reliability and long races with UST tyres, the GTT is probably the way to go: heavier, yes, but with plenty of arguments to attract marathon users. For those who want to save weight compared to GTT and need more guarantees about air loss, filling the tyre with Pit Stop TNT and/or carrying a Pit Stop clipped on the seat tube should be good enough. PLEASE NOTE: when puncturing a tyre with GTT inside, if the sealant takes longer than expected to close the hole (and the pressure is going down), it is useless trying to inflate with a Pit Stop since it will definitely not be able to seal the hole (GTT is more powerfull compared to Pit Stop when it comes to closing punctures). Recommendation: inflate with pump rather than with a Pit Stop cartridge.

• Why should I use TNT tyres instead of standard tubeless? The bike becomes lighter more lively and it runs better. You will also experience far less punctures or tyrefailures than you’re used to with any XC tyre. • Is it more difficult to mount TNT tyres, compared to standard tubeless ones? No, it’s the same. The only difference is that some latex has to be added. After that, take the pressure to your riding one and go ride! • Is it compulsory to use the Geax Pit Stop cartridge with TNT tyres, or can I use other sealants? You can use any sealant to seal TNT tyres, as long as it’s latex-based. Please note, however, that the latex foam injected by the Geax Pit Stop is more effective to seal the TNT tyres, requiring a lower quantity. Latex foam 35g / liquid latex 50-60g. • In case of puncture or cut, can TNT tyres be repaired? Yes. You can use the standard procedure used for normal tyres (internal or external patch). Please note that a re-injection of Geax Pit Stop will seal most punctures.

CASING

The perfectly round, pneumatic system known as a tubular adheres directly onto a tubular specific rim. Inside, the latex inner tube increases air permeability making it stronger against punctures, while maintaining high flexibility for minimal rolling resistance. The tread is hand-laminated over the casing, requiring no high temperatures during construction; a unique process reserved for premium tubulars. Due to the perfectly round profile (constant casing radius), cornering is more predictable and more confidence-inspiring than with clinchers, which do not maintain a constant casing radius due to the mechanical limitations of a hook and bead system. Shock absorption is also maximized. A tubular has a wide gluing surface on the rim, spreading forces and stresses more evenly on its structure than on a clincher tyre...this allows the tubular to absorb imperfections without deflecting or slowing down. A Sticky Soft Compound - B Corespun 290 TPI - C Latex inner tube - D Presta Valve RVC E Specific MTB tubular rim.

Our XC casings provide strong anti-pinch-flat protection and cut prevention, while delivering high performance in terms of the low rolling resistance and low overall weights, typical of our tyres. We’re able to achieve this result with a careful choice of proprietary polyamide threads and optimized positioning (cutting angles and layer coupling) to further stress Geax’s strengths. The casing is the main ingredient to get speed, reliability, grip, and overall suppleness.

Fold: A Nylon 120TPI - B Kevlar ® Rigid: A Nylon 26TPI - B Steel KEVLAR ® is a registered trademark of E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company

All the properties and features of our XC casings are present in the UST tubeless version, which also benefits from the butyl inner liner that provides air retention, allowing it to be used without inner tubes or even sealant! The butyl liner on the Geax UST tyres coats the interior, not the exterior as do our main competitors. This location maximizes the reliability of the air-tightness over time, even through the typical rough usage of mountain biking.

A Nylon 120/60TPI - B Butyl layer - C UST Tubeless Talon

TNT is now, more than ever, the benchmark in MTB casing technology. The presence of the UST Tubeless bead, but exclusion of the internal butyl layer makes for a lightweight and flexible casing unachievable with standard UST casings. Extra sidewall reinforcements enhance cut resistance and low speed compliance to deliver a “livelier” tyre. Our TNT tyres are lighter compared to a tubeless or to a tyre+tube combo, have lower rolling resistance due to a more flexible casing, higher reliability and increased cornering abilities due to the extra protection layer. The “NoTube” ability comes just by adding some liquid or foaming latex, which adds puncture prevention qualities as well. A Nylon 120TPI - B Nylon 120TPI - C UST Tubeless Talon

The natural progression of the All Mountain disciplines towards extreme performances pushed us to develop a specific casing targeting the exact needs of those new All Mountaineers: optimized durability and performance without too much weight carried over. Naturally, we started from our standard TNT technology, because as a base, the TNT features are nearly perfect for the project. With slight alterations, and the addition of a special APF Light butyl insert over the bead, we’ve constructed a tyre that delivers high pedaling properties typical of the XC tyres, but with the strength and reliability properties directly derived from our DH range. They’re the ultimate weapon for the modern AM rider. A Nylon 120TPI - B Nylon 60TPI - C UST Tubeless Talon D Butyl protection APF Light

Now days high performance downhill mountain biking requires attention to every detail and performance characteristic without compromise. It’s exactly this reason that our casing is built with two overlapping nylon plies. One is a highly optimized APF butyl insert which protects against pinch flats and gives stability to the shoulder. Each DH tyre features a double or triple compound construction with specific formulations providing maximum grip, lower rebound, and the lowest rolling resistance possible. All of this, coupled with our famous nylon casing quality, makes our DH tyres the fastest on the market. In a time when races are won by hundredths of a second, rolling resistance is key... A 2-Ply Nylon 60TPI - B UST Steel Tubeless Talon - C APF Butyl protection ✔ UST Tubeless versions have Butyl inner liner.

A NEW MTB TYRE CONCEPT

TNT ✔ 120 TPI nylon casing without inner butyl liner ✔ Additional sidewall protection layer (nylon fabric and abrasion resistant rubber compound): 120 TPI for XC casing and 60 TPI for AM casing. ✔ Tubeless talon (fits both standard and tubeless rims).

Sidewall Protection

Geax TNT tyre allows for up to 100g saving compared to a standard tubeless and the reinforced sidewalls give an unbeatable cut resistance. TNT tyres, used as tubeless on UST rims with Pit Stop cartridge or with liquid latex Pit Stop TNT pluses: low inflating pressures, higher stability when cornering, lower rolling resistance, virtually no pinch flats, tyre bead firmly locked on rim edge and easy inflation with a standard pump being lighter and stronger than standard tubeless. A Pit Stop cartridge contains only 35g of foam, as effective as 50-60g of liquid latex. When mounted on a tubeless rim, with the addition of Geax Pit Stop or other latex sealant, a TNT tyre is lightweight and reliable. Using a TNT tyre with an inner tube is also a very good choice for somebody sticking to more “traditional tyre + tube systems”, looking for a reinforced tyre without having to carry the weight penalty. TNT ADVANTAGES • Geax TNT tyre + Geax Pit Stop vs standard tubeless tyre: - lighter (up to 100g less per wheel) - stronger to sidewall cuts and punctures - lower rolling resistance (without the butyl layer the casing is lighter and more flexible thus the tyre rolls better). - more stable at low inflation pressures • Geax TNT tyre + Geax Pit Stop vs standard tyre + latex sealant: - allows low inflating pressure without worries of sidewall failures or bead movements (with sudden pressure loss) - much stronger to sidewall cuts and punctures - easy inflation with either floor and hand pumps

COMPOUNDS

SUPER STICKY SOFT (40 Shore A) Super-soft compound expressly concieved for DH racing is the top gun of all sticky rubbers in the Geax lineup. 40 Shore A it’s not just a number on a rubber hardness scale (“Shore A” indeed), it’s much more than that: it’s a specific rubber thoroughly made to stick to whatever surface you may throw at it in whatever climate condition at whatever temperature. Wet or dry, winter or summer this rubber compound is made to guarantee the best grip in every situation from slippery rocks to wet roots. Sticky Soft Compound (50 Shore A) A compound specifically formulated to guarantee maximum grip under all conditions, from wet grass to slippery rocks. Perfect for our enduro, freeride and downhill tyres; it’s the best compromise between grip, wear and rolling resistance for extreme applications. It’s the compound of choice for the vast majority of trails/courses that you’ll find in DH and FR, providing optimum grip in all conditions with low rolling resistance. Aramid racing 3D Compound (60 Shore A) XC Racing compond for a performing yet fast tyre. Starting with the Aramid 3D compound we developed a softer and lighter to shave some weight on the tread keeping grip and durability to excellent levels. Aramid 3D Compound (65 Shore A) Used for High performance tyres, allround compound to get the best in different conditions and applications. Good grip and more durable thanks to the tridimensionally dispersed (3D) aramidic particels, it allows for superior cut and flat prevention. Microcarbon Compound (70 Shore A) High mileage compound made to perform at his best on the durability aspect keeping good behaivour on tarmac too. The ideal compound for tarma/gravel application.

TRIPLECOMPOUND (40-50-40/65 ShA) That’s the letal weapon every racer dreams of. World Cup level compound construction to get from your bike 110% of the hidden performance, no matter what’s the terrain like. ARAMID 3D compond as a base layer to strenghten and make the knobs “internally” stiff to increase precision and to gett killer lines. Super Sticky Soft 40 ShA (on side knobs) and Sticky Soft 50 ShA (on central knobs) deliver all the double compound benefits with the added bonus of a killer extreme grip. DOUBLECOMPOUND (50-60-50 ShA)

TREAD LIFE

GRIP

Sticky Soft compound on side knobs and ARAMID RACING 3D on the central ones. That’s the best compromise you can get from both the compounds: cornering grip and braking performances keeping low the rolling resistance. Soft side knobs guarantee a strong bite in turns and excellent grip in all situations whilst the central (harder) compounds with aramidic particels makes for lower rolling resistance reducing wear and tear to acceptable levels. It’s the ideal solution for racing tyres.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS

Inner Tube Attention: before mounting, make sure the rim, the tyre and other components (rim tape, inner tube, latex‌) are all fully compatible. A. Fit a proper rim strip or tubeless conversion suitable for the maximum tyre pressure. B. Install one bead on the rim, starting opposite of the valve. C. Insert the inner tube, slightly inflated, starting from the valve. D. Install the liquid sealant if applicable. E. Install the other bead starting opposite the valve, making sure the inner tube or the UST bead are not damaged in doing so. F. Inflate the tyre until the beads properly seat without exceeding recommended maximum tyre pressure. G. Deflate the tyre completely (beads will stay seated). H. Reinflate and seal with a Pit Stop cartridge. I. Fine tune the pressure as preferred. Maintenance: store in a dry area away from light. After each ride, remove any debris embedded in the tread that might damage the carcass, such as small stones, glass, metal, etc. Clean the tyre with plain water. Do not use soaps or solvent as these may cause a change in the compound characteristics. When storing for long periods, keep the tyre slightly inflated, and make sure the weight is evenly distributed.
