C o n c e p t From fashion shows to day-to-day life, FABRIC involves the Barrio community. During shows, elements of the Barrio can be found through local photographers, make up artists, catering companies, and even the runway itself goes out of the building and through the Barrio. In the daily life, workspace used for classes to teach residents of the Barrio is shared with the designers actively working on projects. Everything the designers have access to, the Barrio community has access to and allows residents to become a part of FABRIC’s community.

C o n c e p t As an adaptive reuse project, this building has been converted from parking structure to art institute. The key elements of this project were acknowledging original elements, while bringing in modern concepts. The parking garage has been modified to accomodate adequate floor heights, but maintains particular original structural pieces. Addressing the Union Station, all that has changed is a roof addition. Nothing else of the historic building has been touched to preserve its history. The interior has been redesigned to support the institute and typical city residents.

C o n c e p t This project was a volunteer venture that focused on creating renderings for a local theater company that was looking for higher quality images to present to future investors. The images were meant to model the company’s passion for theater and community. They have descirbed their future space as follows, “our new home would provide a place for homeschool families to access a bookstore for needed curriculum, classes in art, science and drama, testing facilities and much more. Our students and community will enjoy so many more benefits when we establish a central, permanent home for both MoezArt and Covenant Home School Resource Center.

C o n c e p t For our design, we will explore the idea of blurring the lines between nature and urban life. We will interconnect the living nature of the island and unnatural infrastructure to exist together in a mutually symbiotic relationship. Our Master Plan to achieve this involves more access to nature both in the preserve and in site. We have plans such as letting nature grow over and around buildings to optimize their space and design sustainable buildings that will benefit rather than hinder the nature around them. We will create more access and activities within the preserve for both locals and tourists, as well as maintain space for wildlife to remain prosperous. We will pull nature into our site as much as we can and blend it with our program to the point that no matter the view, one cannot decipher what is meant to be natural or unnatural.
