The Taylor Shop

Fall 2018 Site Location: The Barrio, Tucson, AZ

In an area rich in history, a unique addition to this community is an experienced tailor for the average person’s clothing needs. From weddings to family reunions to quinceaneras, this remodeled design of the tailor space suits every consumer. The workshop is spacious and flexible to adapt based on the tailor’s needs. The showroom is oriented toward the client and meeting their needs as well as making the experience as special as possible. The courtyard joins these two spaces together to celebrate the new experiences and new creations of clothing and memories. The overall concept that brings these spaces together is the informality of the tailor and their work. Clients are encouraged to interact with the tailor and their process, and the tailor opens their workspace to the curious client.

Barrio FABRIC

Fall 2018 Site Location: The Barrio, Tucson, AZ

From fashion shows to day-to-day life, FABRIC involves the Barrio community. During shows, elements of the Barrio can be found through local photographers, make up artists, catering companies, and even the runway itself goes out of the building and through the Barrio. In the daily life, workspace used for classes to teach residents of the Barrio is shared with the designers actively working on projects. Everything the designers have access to, the Barrio community has access to and allows residents to become a part of FABRIC’s community.

Timber in the City Spring 2019 Site Location: Queens, Brookyln, NY

This project focuses on providing for the users. Incorporating local shops, a historic library, access to child care, and access to self care will give residence and community members a safe space to tend to daily life. Through close proximity and additional elements such as bike storage, day care for community center users, and outdoor extracurricular activities, this project creates a safe and convenient environment for its community members.

Art Institute

Fall 2019 Site Location: Downtown Phoenix, AZ

As an adaptive reuse project, this building has been converted from parking structure to art institute. The key elements of this project were acknowledging original elements, while bringing in modern concepts. The parking garage has been modified to accomodate adequate floor heights, but maintains particular original structural pieces. Addressing the Union Station, all that has changed is a roof addition. Nothing else of the historic building has been touched to preserve its history. The interior has been redesigned to support the institute and typical city residents.
