SPORTS PROGRAMME SATURDAY 13 JANUARY 2018

@CaterhamSport

Dear Parents and Players I offer parents, players, staff and official a very warm welcome to Caterham School. I hope that there are many closely fought encounters today and that all pupils involved go away enriched by their physical endeavours. While striving to win is vitally important, it is not more important than the sportsmanship and friendship that make sport so special and such an integral part of the education that we offer our pupils. With that in mind I hope that all matches today are played in the positive atmosphere that they should be. I remind all of us that we are all responsible for ensuring that the pupils are supported at all times. Please let us all applaud good play from both teams, offer our congratulations to the victors but also acknowledge the efforts of the losers. I have no doubt that every pupil will give their all today and that each and every one of them deserve our praise and support. We hope that you enjoy the hospitality on offer today at Caterham. We aim to make you feel as welcome as possible and to give you the best possible experience of the school. Yours in sport, Rob Clarke, Director of Sport

A message from the Head of Cross Country John Mansell Our senior boys and girls teams are both running in the Regional Cup at Knole Park (see overleaf for timings and location) I am very excited to see how the boys and girls perform especially as they have trained very hard last term and, hopefully, have not indulged too much over Christmas! Good luck to all the pupils involved today

A message from the Head of Netball Jaclyn Leach

A message from the Head of Hockey Rob Mugridge and Peter Friend

We are very excited for our annual block fixture against Brighton College and Portsmouth Grammar today, with seventeen teams playing across three different venues. This is perhaps our toughest test of the entire season, as both schools will provide us with extremely challenging matches. However our girls always rise brilliantly well to this challenge, and I am sure that today will be no different. At home we welcome the Portsmouth Grammar and Brigthon College . In the afternoon our three senior teams are travelling to Portsmouth to take on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd VII teams from Brighton College and Portsmouth Grammar, in a triangular set of matches. At the same time, our U14 ABC and U15 ABC VII travel to Brighton to play in a triangular of their own. Good luck to all of our girls - have a fantastic day of netball.

With the new season upon us, it is with pleasure to welcome Sutton Valence School to Caterham. As new heads of hockey, we are looking forward to the challenges ahead and the progress that the boys and teams make over the next few months. Historically, this block of fixtures has been very competitive with some excellent hockey on show. I am sure our boys with relish the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities and have no doubt that the contests will be played in a superb spirit. As always, best of luck to all the boys and staff today.

Code of Conduct At Caterham School we ask all spectators to: 1) Encourage players to learn the rules and play within them. 2) Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials. 3) Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding good performance by all players. 4) Avoid belittling players for losing or making mistakes. 5) Accept the judgements of officials and recognise that they have a difficult job. 6) Support all players’ involvement and help them to enjoy the game. 7) Use correct and decent language at all times.

We love dogs - but please keep four-legged friends on a lead whilst on the School site and Hill Fields sports grounds. Unfortunately, where dogs go off-lead onto pitches foxes follow their scent and may mess the pitches. Thank you!
