SPORTS PROGRAMME SATURDAY 20 JANUARY 2018

@CaterhamSport

Dear Parents and Players

A message from the Head of Lacrosse Jen Simpson

I offer parents, players, staff and official a very warm welcome to Caterham School. I hope that there are many closely fought encounters today and that all pupils involved go away enriched by their physical endeavours. While striving to win is vitally important, it is not more important than the sportsmanship and friendship that make sport so special and such an integral part of the education that we offer our pupils. With that in mind I hope that all matches today are played in the positive atmosphere that they should be. I remind all of us that we are all responsible for ensuring that the pupils are supported at all times. Please let us all applaud good play from both teams, offer our congratulations to the victors but also acknowledge the efforts of the losers. I have no doubt that every pupil will give their all today and that each and every one of them deserve our praise and support.

Welcome back to our players and parents! A warm Caterham welcome to Guildford High as we compete in today’s block fixture. Despite the sometimes artic conditions at this time of year, this block fixture is always a highlight of the lacrosse calendar and a great way to start an exciting term of lacrosse. The matches have always proved to be competitive with Guildford winning the block fixture last year. The 2nd, 3rd, U15B, U14A&B, and U13B &C will play at home on the hill. The 1st, U15A, U13A and U12A, B &C will travel away to GHS. The 1st XII and U15A will also take on Moreton Hall, currently on a lacrosse tour down south after playing Guildford. Caterham has only ever seen Moreton Hall in tournament play so is very excited for another challenge. Good luck to all of the players, coaches and umpires!

We hope that you enjoy the hospitality on offer today at Caterham. We aim to make you feel as welcome as possible and to give you the best possible experience of the school. Yours in sport, Rob Clarke, Director of Sport

A message from the Heads of Hockey Rob Mugridge and Peter Friend Welcome to the second weekend of the hockey season! This weekend it is a pleasure to welcome Alleyn’s School to Caterham. Historically, this block of fixtures has been very competitive with some excellent hockey on show. Our boys are looking to improve on a tough midweek set of games against Langley and have been making huge progress in terms of their individual and team play. I am sure the boys with relish the opportunity to demonstrate their talents on the pitch today. I have no doubt that the contests will be played in a superb spirit and, as always, best of luck to all pupils and staff today.

Code of Conduct At Caterham School we ask all spectators to: 1) Encourage players to learn the rules and play within them. 2) Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials. 3) Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding good performance by all players. 4) Avoid belittling players for losing or making mistakes. 5) Accept the judgements of officials and recognise that they have a difficult job. 6) Support all players’ involvement and help them to enjoy the game. 7) Use correct and decent language at all times.

We love dogs - but please keep four-legged friends on a lead whilst on the School site and Hill Fields sports grounds. Unfortunately, where dogs go off-lead onto pitches foxes follow their scent and may mess the pitches. Thank you!
