SPORTS PROGRAMME SATURDAY 27 JANUARY 2018

@CaterhamSport

Dear Parents and Players I offer parents, players, staff and official a very warm welcome to Caterham School. I hope that there are many closely fought encounters today and that all pupils involved go away enriched by their physical endeavours. While striving to win is vitally important, it is not more important than the sportsmanship and friendship that make sport so special and such an integral part of the education that we offer our pupils. With that in mind I hope that all matches today are played in the positive atmosphere that they should be. I remind all of us that we are all responsible for ensuring that the pupils are supported at all times. Please let us all applaud good play from both teams, offer our congratulations to the victors but also acknowledge the efforts of the losers. I have no doubt that every pupil will give their all today and that each and every one of them deserve our praise and support. We hope that you enjoy the hospitality on offer today at Caterham. We aim to make you feel as welcome as possible and to give you the best possible experience of the school. Yours in sport, Rob Clarke, Director of Sport

A message from the Head of Netball Jaclyn Leach Our block of fixtures against Hurstpierpoint got off to a magnificent start on Thursday (25), as our 1st VII and U16A VII took on what is always an incredibly tough opposition. The 1st VII match was of truly exceptional quality, with both teams putting each under enormous pressure from the very first whistle. It was four quarters of twelve incredibly high standard minutes, with the 1st VII taking the lead in the second quarter and managing to hold on to it for the entire game, despite a relentless attempt by HPP to fight back. The final score was 32-30 to Caterham, showing that their outstanding recent performances against Brighton College and Portsmouth Grammar were no fluke: these girls have earned every goal and every win through sheer hard work and determination at every training session. The U16A VII played the HPP U15 VII in what was another incredibly high quality match, with the final score 31-28 to Caterham. Very well done to all of the girls for putting in such a fantastic performance. This Saturday we have sixteen teams in action to complete the block against Hurstpierpoint, in what is sure to be another enjoyable and challenging set of matches. Good luck everybody!

A message from the Heads of Hockey , Rob Mugridge and Peter Friend This weekend, Caterham will be facing off against Royal Russell and Seaford College, in a set of fixtures that will be hugely competitive. It is a pleasure to warmly welcome Royal Russell and Seaford College and hope staff, parents and students enjoy their games here. Our U12 and U13 face local rivals Royal Russell early in the morning. These games will be a great opportunity for the boys to bring in the attacking movement and link-up play that they have worked hard on in training. From U14 upwards, our opposition will be Seaford College. This is set be a tough challenge but one our students will no doubt rise to. I am sure the boys with relish the opportunity to demonstrate their talents on the pitch today. I have no doubt that the contests will be played in a superb spirit and as always best of luck to all pupils and staff today.

Code of Conduct At Caterham School we ask all spectators to: 1) Encourage players to learn the rules and play within them. 2) Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials. 3) Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding good performance by all players. 4) Avoid belittling players for losing or making mistakes. 5) Accept the judgements of officials and recognise that they have a difficult job. 6) Support all players’ involvement and help them to enjoy the game. 7) Use correct and decent language at all times.

We love dogs - but please keep four-legged friends on a lead whilst on the School site and Hill Fields sports grounds. Unfortunately, where dogs go off-lead onto pitches foxes follow their scent and may mess the pitches. Thank you!
