SPORTS PROGRAMME SATURDAY 3 FEBRUARY 2018

@CaterhamSport

Dear Parents and Players

A message from the Head of Lacrosse, Jen Simpson

I offer parents, players, staff and official a very warm welcome to Caterham School. I hope that there are many closely fought encounters today and that all pupils involved go away enriched by their physical endeavours. While striving to win is vitally important, it is not more important than the sportsmanship and friendship that make sport so special and such an integral part of the education that we offer our pupils. With that in mind I hope that all matches today are played in the positive atmosphere that they should be. I remind all of us that we are all responsible for ensuring that the pupils are supported at all times. Please let us all applaud good play from both teams, offer our congratulations to the victors but also acknowledge the efforts of the losers. I have no doubt that every pupil will give their all today and that each and every one of them deserve our praise and support.

The Laxcats travel away to Berkhamsted School today for a full block fixture. As two of the top co-educational schools for lacrosse, this fixture always proves to be a very competitive one. The Caterham coaches are really looking forward to seeing how all of the teams compete today as it is the first block fixture of the term. We are especially looking forward to seeing the U13 age group play as they have their County Tournament next Tuesday. The 1st XII will be traveling away to Haberdashers’ Aske’s School for Girls for the South East Schools Final Tournament which will be great preparation for National Schools. Good luck to all players and coaches in today’s fixtures.

We hope that you enjoy the hospitality on offer today at Caterham. We aim to make you feel as welcome as possible and to give you the best possible experience of the school. Yours in sport, Rob Clarke, Director of Sport

A message from the Head of Rugby Dan Richards

A message from the Heads of Hockey , Rob Mugridge and Peter Friend

It is a pleasure to welcome Belgrano Athletic Club to Caterham School for our senior fixtures today. This games marks the third time these sides have met; firstly in Argentina in 2015 which saw a win for a strong Belgrano side and then at Rosslyn Park under floodlights in 2016 when the 1st Xv managed to gain a famous victory over the tourists. Both these games have been great contests and I am sure today will be no different as we seek to continue to build a strong link between our two institutions, with a Caterham side hoping to travel over to South America in 2020. I am especially pleased that we have two senior sides out today. With these games taking place in the middle of the hockey term we have not selected any boys are required for hockey fixtures. To still be able to put out two sides of such strength speaks volumes about the commitment and depth that we currently have in the rugby programme and is very encouraging as we begin to look towards the 2018 season. The very best of luck to all involved in today’s matches and a special mention to all the Upper Sixth boys who will play their last game in Caterham colours today - you have been superb ambassadors for the rugby club and I am sure you will sign off on a high note before attention turns to the sevens season.

We would like to extend a warm welcome to our friends from Lingfield College who we welcome today. Last year’s block fixture saw some incredibly tight and well contested games and we are hoping for more of the same this time around. Our boys have been working hard and we have seen a huge improvement as the season progresses. I hope to see another step up in our development this weekend and good sportsmanship on display all around. Good luck to everyone.

Code of Conduct At Caterham School we ask all spectators to: 1) Encourage players to learn the rules and play within them. 2) Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials. 3) Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding good performance by all players. 4) Avoid belittling players for losing or making mistakes. 5) Accept the judgements of officials and recognise that they have a difficult job. 6) Support all players’ involvement and help them to enjoy the game. 7) Use correct and decent language at all times.

We love dogs - but please keep four-legged friends on a lead whilst on the School site and Hill Fields sports grounds. Unfortunately, where dogs go off-lead onto pitches foxes follow their scent and may mess the pitches. Thank you!
