SPORTS PROGRAMME SATURDAY 7 SEPTEMBER
@CaterhamSport
Dear Parents and Players, May I offer parents, players, staff and officials a very warm welcome to Caterham School. I hope that there are many closely fought encounters today and that all pupils involved go away enriched by their physical endeavours. While striving to win is vitally important, it is not more important than the sportsmanship and friendship that make sport so special and such an integral part of the education that we offer our pupils. With that in mind I hope that all matches today are played in the positive atmosphere that they should be. I remind all of us that we are all responsible for ensuring that the pupils are supported at all times. Please let us all applaud good play from both teams, offer our congratulations to the victors but also acknowledge the efforts of the losers. I have no doubt that every pupil will give their all today and that each and every one of them deserve our praise and support. We hope that you enjoy the hospitality on offer today at Caterham. We aim to make you feel as welcome as possible and to give you the best possible experience of the school. Yours in sport, Rob Clarke, Director of Sport
A message from the Head of Netball Jaclyn Leach The netball season will get off to a fantastically thrilling start with the fifth annual Trinity Schools Fast Five tournament, hosted by Caterham School, this Saturday. Twelve teams will compete for the Fast Five Champions title, with six teams vying for the 1st V win. It is always an incredibly competitive, fast and furious tournament, with the girls getting to grips with the speed and endurance required at this early stage of the season, as well as working out their tactics according to the Fast Five rules, which include: 1pt, 2pt and 3pt shooting zones, five players on the court with rolling subs, the non-scoring side always taking the centre pass, as well as the all important PowerPlay. Each team receives one PowerPlay card which they can use during one match of their choice, where the points value of each goal scored is doubled. This means one shot can potentially earn a team an enormous six points! The quality of netball on display, even at this early stage of the season, is always impressive, so hopefully we will see you up on the courts for this highly enjoyable and crowd-pleasing event. Good luck everyone!
A message from the Head of Lacrosse Jen Simpson
A message from the Heads of Hockey Peter Friend and Robert Mugridge
Welcome back to our players and parents!
We would like to welcome you all to the start of the new hockey season, especially the new First Year pupils who will wear the famous black and yellow for the first time. This is the first academic year we are having junior hockey taking place in the Autumn Term.
Today marks the fifth annual ‘Welcome to Lacrosse Day’ for our new U12 lacrosse players. The U12 players will be taught lacrosse skills by the coaches and those who have volunteered to pass along their love of lacrosse. The coaches are excited to see the next generation of lacrosse players begin their time at Caterham School and hope their parents enjoy trying out the sport for themselves. The U15, U14 and U13 will be participating in an internal LaxCat tournament in the afternoon at Hill Fields. Looking forward to a great first weekend to the school year! Tea and Coffee available throughout the session in the Leathem Pavilion. Refreshments for all to be served in the Wilberforce Hall after the session.
Both of us are excited about the prospects of what both age groups can achieve this year. We have been impressed by the attitude of all players and the willingness to improve and take new ideas on board. This morning both age groups will have a team training day to whereby they will work on various skills and patterns of play. Parents are invited to come and have a go at the end of the session and get involved with playing hockey. We hope you enjoy the hospitality and look forward to seeing you all throughout the season.

RUGBY St. George’s Weybridge A message from Head of Rugby, Wade Kelly It is a pleasure to welcome all of KCS Wimbledon’s players, staff and parents to Caterham for our first block fixture of the 2017. Fixtures between the schools date back to the early 1920s, and all of those games have been fantastic contests played in a superb spirit. I am sure today will be no different. The very best of luck to all of those involved in today’s matches. Team

Code of Conduct At Caterham School we ask all spectators to: 1) Encourage players to learn the rules and play within them. 2) Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials. 3) Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding good performance by all players. 4) Avoid belittling players for losing or making mistakes. 5) Accept the judgements of officials and recognise that they have a difficult job. 6) Support all players’ involvement and help them to enjoy the game. 7) Use correct and decent language at all times.
We love dogs - but please keep four-legged friends on a lead whilst on the School site and Hill Fields sports grounds. Unfortunately, where dogs go off-lead onto pitches foxes follow their scent and may mess the pitches. Thank you!
