SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE Sunday 8 November 2020, 10.45am
ORDER OF SERVICE WELCOME by the Headmaster CALL TO WORSHIP ACT OF PENITENCE based on Coventry Cathedral’s Litany of Reconciliation Chaplain:
Response: Chaplain: Response: Chaplain: Response: Chaplain: Response: Chaplain: Response: Chaplain: Response:
Gracious God, as we stand here today to remember the horrors of war, past and present, the killing and the grief, the wounding and the destruction, the suffering of innocent and guilty, the cries of men, women and children, we acknowledge that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Forgive the evil in us that makes war possible - the hatred which divides nation from nation, race from race, class from class. Forgive us, O God. The covetous desires of people and nations to possess what is not their own. Forgive us, O God. The greed which exploits human labour and lays waste the earth. Forgive us, O God. Our envy of the welfare and happiness of others. Forgive us, O God. Our indifference to the plight of the homeless and the refugee. Forgive us, O God. The pride which leads to trust in ourselves and not in God. Forgive us, O God.
Chaplain:
Response:
Empower us to be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as you in Jesus Christ forgive us. For his name's sake we ask this. Amen.
