S T R I V E - CCW Athlete Development Program
Program details MISSION STATEMENT To identify and develop aspiring athletes from around the region by providing them with an elite environment and learning opportunities. To promote a 'culture of excellence' with a focus on academic, personal and sporting development and performance through individualised programs. Program background The program aims to assist talented student-athletes to achieve at the highest levels of performance in their various sports and to help them with their personal education and vocational development. It is widely recognised that Sport, Health and Physical Education play an important part in an individual's holistic growth and development. Cathedral College Wangaratta's Athlete Development Program, S T R I V E, offers students the opportunity to develop these skills further. The program is currently partnering with the Murray Bushrangers in order to cater for AFL athletes and Mr Brett Harvey from ELEV8 Basketball Program for students excelling in basketball. For students in Years Ten, Eleven and Twelve will complete a normal program/VCE sequence and will have a specialised timetable that includes conditioning training, skill development, nutritional studies and wellbeing. Students in the program have extra time dedicated to the S T R I V E Program in their weekly timetable which is Periods 6 and 7 on a Thursday for AFL and Periods 6 & 7 on a Tuesday for basketball. For students in Years Seven to Nine who are eligible for the basketball S T R I V E Development Program, sessions will be held on Tuesdays at lunch time.

Years: 10 -12, undertaken in conjunction with the VCE Partners with: the Murray Bushrangers Sessions: S T R I V E Thursday Periods 6 & 7. Eligibility: Must be currently in the Murray Bushrangers program and/or expected to be in 2024 squads Will be commencing Year Ten or Eleven in 2024 Application and an interview are required with the Head of Senior School as per the regular enrolment processes.

The recent growth of Cathedral College Wangaratta and its state of the art sporting facilities have positioned the school to be able to initiate the program in partnership with the Murray Bushrangers. North East Victoria has enviable sporting facilities and is a strong and proud sporting community.

Program Coordinator - Mr Dale Carmody Dale has been a Primary School Principal and is currently the Sports Coordinator at Cathedral College. He started his football career in Wangaratta, playing in the thirds with the Wangaratta Magpies Football and Netball Club. Dale went on to become a two-time Premiership player (2007, 2008). He retired at the end of the 2008 season. Dale also played for West Preston in the Diamond Valley League in Melbourne. During this time he won the club's best & fairest four times (1995,1996,1997 and 2002). He captained the side in 1999, 2000 and 2001. Dale spent the 1998 season in Perth playing for Peel Thunder in the WAFL. Dale's coaching experience includes the Talls/Ruck coach for the Murray Bushrangers (2008-2011) and he coached the Midfield (2009). When he lived and taught in Singapore, Dale coached from 2012 to 2016. Dale is currently the Talls/Ruck Coach of the Murray Bushrangers.
