Digital Resources

Website

Our school website (www.cathedralcollege.vic.edu.au) hosts general information, links and a calendar of events.

Virtual Tour

Parents are invited to visit and share the Virtual Tour of the College Campus, hosted on the school’s website. This can be an opportunity for extended family members to see the school in action and gain a greater understanding of life at the College.

Digital Newsletter

Each fortnight, on a Friday, the College provides a newsletter for the school community, outlining important information and detailing events that have recently taken place. A link is distributed via email to all parents once the newsletter has been published on the school website. We encourage you to take the time to read the newsletter as a way of keeping up to date with news, upcoming events and announcements from staff.

Facebook

The College has a Facebook Page that can be followed and there is a Cathedral College Parents Facebook Page which is run by the Parent community.

School App

The School App can be accessed by searching Cathedral College Wangaratta on the Apple App Store or Google Play. The App has the ability to:

- Hold all Notices and Forms relating to all aspects of events and activities at school: academic, excursions, sporting commitments, special events and more. - Add events from the EduApp Calendar to your personal calendar to ensure times, locations and relevant staff contacts are available at any time. - Subscribe to certain Year Level/Sub School information to streamline the type of content you would like to see in the App. - View and configure what type of notifications you wish to receive. - Record Student Absentee through a simple form which is immediately sent to

SchoolTV is a digital wellbeing resource that is available to all our parents. Each edition addresses a major topic with expert interviews, fact sheets, parent quiz, recommended apps, books and much more, aggregating information from many great resources such as BeyondBlue and ReachOut, amongst others. Editions will be highlighted in the Newsletter and are accessible at any time on the website here.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

The school provides all necessary technology and digital resources for students to ensure they have access to computers when required in class. Teachers utilise Microsoft Teams, Google Classroom and other online platforms to enable students to access assessments and work from home. For those who wish to bring their own Laptop to school, particularly in the senior years, we encourage students to be responsible for the safety of their own devices, keeping them protected and secured.

Mobile Phones

Like many young people many of our students have access to a mobile phone from a young age. We also recognise and accept that students who travel to and from school each day require a mobile phone to stay in contact with their family outside of normal school hours. Our students agree that any personal mobile phone will be kept in the appropriate locker or school bag, or kept with a staff member, and will not be accessed during the hours of 8.50am to 3.15pm unless they are being used for educational purposes, or have explicit permission. Our students tend to respect the spirit of this agreement and enjoy their social interactions with each other face to face rather than through a device.

Digital Citizenship

Cathedral College Wangaratta is an accredited eSmart School and we offer opportunities for ongoing workshops for staff and parents as well as an explicit teaching program within the curriculum. By working with the Alannah & Madeline Foundation, staff, students and parents have access to valuable information about the ever changing world of online activity through annual seminars that focus on the online worlds of young people including the latest trends, risks and research, plus tips for teachers and parents on how to manage technology use in the school and home.

Digital Citizenship is a core component of the curriculum and our Year Sevens complete an eSmart digital license which requires students to consider a range of topics such as protecting privacy, social networking and communicating safely online. This is an area that we will continue to dedicate time to as our students are regularly finding themselves communicating and building relationships on online platforms. Safer Internet Day helps raise awareness in our broader community on how to develop critical skills that will help them navigate the online world.
