Ben Aronson is recognized as one of America’s most respected and evocative painters of the urban landscape. Aronson’s painterly scenes combine precise realism with gestural immediacy and Abstract Expressionist energy. His work has become influential among (and emulated by) many contemporary cityscape painters. His July exhibition Manhattan to Montauk, celebrates Long Island and its art history and will be on view at MM Fine Art in Southampton, NY, July 11 – 26, 2020. The exhibition will include both Manhattan urban cityscapes and more traditional East End scenes “escaping to Long Island as an antidote to New York City.” Art critics have long been captivated by Aronson’s striking contribution to the tradition of American painting. In 2007, arts writer, George Tysh noted Aronson’s firm place in art history – positioning him with Edward Hopper, Charles Sheeler, and Fairfield Porter: “[All four are] realists whose compositions express an acute awareness of underlying geometries and forms, and who never forget about the paint in painting.” Ben Aronson has presented over 30 solo exhibitions in galleries and museums nationally and was the recipient of the 2006 Childe Hassam Purchase Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, in New York City. Also, the recipient of several prizes from the National Academy of Design in New York, Aronson’s paintings are included in the permanent collections of more than 50 museums, including Boston Museum of Fine Arts; De Young Museum in San Francisco; Virginia Museum of Fine Arts; Eli & Edythe Broad Museum, Michigan; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Butler Institute of American Art, Ohio; National Academy Museum, New York; and Suzhou Museum of Art, China.
