autumn/winter 18/19

Letter to the editor Each season is packed with trends which are the bases of fashion for that season. Just like seasons that come and go, so do trends. Although we are in a constant cycle of whats in and whats out, we often find history repeats itself. Along with history, in fashion colors, silhouettes, textiles, etc all make there ways in and out. In autumn winter 2018-19, we have discovered four color stories that perfectly convey what consumers have to look forward to this season. First, brights are making their way into the season bold and loud. These colors are familiar but have a reinvented twist to them. Second, jewel tones feeds into that need of nature. More than ever we have an urge to reconnect with nature, and the jewel color palette perfectly satisfies that urge. Third, neutrals serve as a back bone to any color palette. This season neutrals feel both modern and retro. Lastly, greyer and frosted pastels are emerging and are inspired by organic compositions of textures and colors. Explore this report to discover which colors are in and what you have to look forward to in Autumn/Winter 18/19.

bright A/W 18/19 features bright colors that are familar but bring a new twist. When added to any outfit these colors offer a pop of color while not overwhelming your style. Classic Autumnal tones such as energising yellows and oranges are appearing in intense waves while pairing with refreshing greens and blues, to create clean and sophisticated looks. This season brights are also being paired with other brights, to create a loud statement. The palette is inpired by the streets, sporty brights and urban city tones work together to elevate the A/W 18/19 trends

jewel In many ways we are reconnecting with nature, fashion is no exception. A/W 18/19 taps into that urge to reconnect and offers jewel colors that feeds into that need of nature. Vegetal dyes inspire saturated tones that are ripe and heavy. Mid-tones have a hazy autumnal quality and suggest new camouflages, while natural brights coexist with shades such Midnight Bleu. This season also re-evaluates our relationship with the environment, and sees a focus on sustainability result in clothes with a time-worn, long-lasting appeal. Beyond vintage reproductions, inspirations are culled from global artisan traditions, and modern technical materials are mixed with traditional prints and patterns.

neutral Neutrals feel both modern and retro: this color palette reflects fluidity with draping, layering and textiles. Clothing offers a sense of security and comfort: proportion is used to create a sense of protection and awareness of physical space. Trends are also being influenced from global destination. A/W 18/19 is no longer constricted to specific ideas of Western style. Different earth tones are combined with pastels, and neppy textures are juxtaposed with clean surfaces. Motifs are developing and can be seen across all garments, not just t-shirts. Steel Grey becomes a core colour for A/W 18/19. This tone has a softness and a layered quality that feels both sophisticated and versatile. Folded and swathed forms are inspired by classical sculpture. Architecture flows with elegant lines and sinuous twists, and products come with crisp or draped concertina pleats, using wood, marble, ceramic or paper.

pastel In A/W 18/19 , greyer and frosted pastels are emerging. This palette is inspired by organic compositions of textures and colors. Imperfection is embraced through aged surfaces, handicraft and well-worn settings. The hues can seem dry and mineral-like or lightweight and transparent, depending on the materials used. Pattern clashing and mixed textures create exaggerated contrast, and unexpected embellishment creates a quirky dandy look. A sleek sheen adds sophistication to any outfit this season. We will see track suits and “pajama wear carried out this season. Blended textiles will be silkier and crisper to emulate suit linings. Like in the other palettes, these pastels are being paired with jewel or brights to create sophisticated and unique looks
