The sense of a river

I N T RO D U C T I O N

Location: Sao Paulo - Brazil Type: Urban Landscape Design: Catherine Gulusian Year: 2018 Course: Architecture and Urban Plan School: Belas Artes Softwares: Autocad, Sketchup, Photoshop

The project aims to redesign the urban space and river restoration along the historical Riacho do Ipiranga in Sao Paulo city, considered to be one of the world’s fastest-growing metropolitan populations with more than 12 million habitants. The fast industrialisation of Sao Paulo in the 20th century resulted in a urbanisation collapse that faces a plurality of spatial and social disruptions within its context. Some of the city’s most serious problems are social segregation, rivers covered by the road system disintegrating it from the city, high levels of pollution (air, land and water), increased volume of traffic, flooding, property speculation and a lack of community space. As a solution for transforming and enriching the spaces in the city the intervention seeks to reconnect this area with various urban, social and historical components de-

veloping a green urban park that occupies 460,900 m2 as an extension of the existing Parque da Independencia would be great importance for the conservation its history. Seeing it as an essential component to bring positive environmental impacts, improving quality of life, recovering and expanding public space for a better city the park offers integration. Sewing the urban fabric and bringing the metropolitan connection through different modes with the implementation of a new public transport system - LIGHT RAIL, ensuring constant presence of the park on the people’s daily lives.

CONCEPT

The main element of the park is the river so the space surrounding the river would be re-positioned as an open waterfront park. It would be designed to blend directly with the new blocks creating interconnected pockets of activity forming a series of public spaces with various programs evenly distributed throughout the park, aimed to bring cultural activities to people from all walks of life. The project was also based on the connection of four different transit systems, which will produce a new vision of expansion and formation of the city interconnecting through the new Right Rail.

The social-spatial interaction of daily life in addition to the permanence of the pedestrians interconnecting to the park and open spaces will be by green corridors and plazas.

High-density buildings that includes varied types of commercial and services shops, housing, social housing, offices towers, hotels, cultural facilities and schools.

Location: Federal - NSW, Australia Type: Renovation Design: Catherine Gulusian Year: 2021 Softwares: Autocad, Sketchup, Vray, Photoshop

This house was transported over 1000km to its current location on a farm in Hinterlands around Byron Bay. The main idea was to keep the historical heritage of the Queenslanders - considered the Australia’s most iconic architectural style - enhancing its unique details like the large veranda where it can be used to watch all the natural rural views of the Macadamia Farm.

The project was designed to increase the dynamic experience of living in and outside. This would be achieved by extending the living room and building a deck connected with the veranda at the back of the house. By adding these features the clients would be able to enjoy the experience of the outdoors with the some of the comforts of the internal with these semi external living spaces.
