TRANSFORM 3. Link factory planning into community

We put the original courtyard together, as a combination of blocks. Between the two households joined the "must be interactive" public blocks, for example, two households share a large kitchen and restaurant.

Urban Gap The Indentation

Yongkang Street , Taipei 2013 May

Compared to the rural areas ,the urban areas usually coldness, but this is not entirely because of the personality. The city's architectural pattern and intensity makes everyone trapped in a concrete box Analysis of the base and the hidden needs of the residents . Using the open space to create a ďŹ eld of activities, to complement space diversity, and strengthen the community residents relation.

STEP 1 : SURFACE OBSERVTION It brings a lot of convenience by the city developement, but also produced a lot of urban disease. Not satisfied in living space makes building change into many types. It brings different activities at the same time also brought the living surface obstacles and dirty. From two-dimensional to three-dimensional to observe the different building attachments.

STEP 2 : SPACE EXPERIMENT Space experiment : Three different community observed. Using actual open space to fill the local residents psychological needs , and also create a different field of activities Experiment03 - MinShen Community

Experiment01 - South Airport Apartment Early architectural form, narrow aisle, messy space, and high age of tenants. Surrounding night market brings complex access to the population, low security

Experiment02 - YongKang Shopping District Yongkang Street has become an important attraction place for foreigners to visit Taipei.Because the opening of the East Gate Station, more and more tourist effect the living space.

Experiment03 - MinShen Community Because the traffic is not convenient to let the sidewalk park a lot of motocycle & bike . Seriously affecting the sidewalk use and walking quality.

Step3 - Site Analyze Yongkan Shopping District choose two areas in Yongkang business district as a base yongkan park 1 & yongkan park 2 Park 1 in the center of the business district, park 2 in the residential area.

<I.E.S Illumination Awards of Merit 2016 > <The shortlist of Darc Award 2016>

Boxing Plus is the first and only premium gym in Taipei. They are focused on providing their clients training with National level trainers and advanced professional equipment from Technogym, Title, and Twins, even the floor is layered with special material and a competition standard sized ring to elevate the experience. After meeting with the client and the designer, we proposed the lighting concept combining rhythm and scale, and to differentiate each section using the same types of fixtures but different lighting techniques, which we only used 4 types of luminaries. We hide the lights with linear curtains to create the grey scale at the same time to absorb the echo to increase the comfort level of the space. The ring was a dream, we wanted to keep it that way, so color were added to create the energetic ambience. This is one of the few projects that the client actually allocated budget for lighting as they knew how important it is to the space, for that we were very thankful. And always happy to work with MW design again as we have grew good understanding over the previous projects.

Challenges Separate the sections with minimal luminary types Low ceiling and ďŹ re restrictions Enlarge the space Create the Stage-like ambiance for the ring without interfering with other sections
