The Kenmore Kronicle A Newsletter for the Nursing Staff at Kenmore Mercy Hospital
Kenmore Mercy Hospital staff celebrate after receiving a much anticipated call from the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program.
Magnet Recognition Achieved by Kenmore Mercy’s Nurses Excitement was in the air in April, as the nursing team at Kenmore Mercy anxiously awaited news regarding their work toward Magnet Recognition. On Wednesday, April 26, associates from multiple disciplines gathered to hear the news that Kenmore Mercy Hospital received national recognition for excellence in nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®. With this recognition, Kenmore Mercy joins a select Magnet community of only 454 hospitals worldwide. Kenmore Mercy is also the only Magnet-recognized hospital in Western New York.
“This recognition reflects the outstanding care our nurses provide and the quality patient outcomes they help achieve,” noted Cheryl W. Hayes, MS, ANP, NEA-BC, vice president of Patient Care Services. Receiving Magnet recognition is the culmination of Kenmore Mercy’s continued commitment to nursing excellence and reflects the highest standards of nursing professionalism, collaboration and teamwork. Magnet is a four year recognition, which means it expires in April 2021.
“In the interim, we will have to submit specific data to ANCC each year on our designation month, April,” noted Amber Mazurek,
BSN, RN, ONC, patient care services project advisor, who coordinated the Magnet application and documentation.
The information we will be providing is as follows: • Interim Year 1 (April, 2018) - Submit our annual Demographic Data Collection Tool (DDCT). This includes information such as our total nurse FTEs, nurse manager and nurse leader education level, nurse vacancy rate, nurse turnover rate, nurse certification rate, vendor’s used for submitting patient satisfaction data, nurse sensitive clinical indicators and nurse satisfaction for 2017. • Interim Year 2 (April, 2019) - Submit annual DDCT to reflect information from 2018. Submit Interim Monitoring Report, which includes the submission of the most up to date nurse satisfaction data, patient satisfaction data and nurse sensitive clinical indicator data. We will also have an interim call with our Magnet analyst. • Interim Year 3 (April, 2020) - Submit annual DDCT to reflect information for 2019 and submit our application. The application is a simple process to show our intent to continue in our Magnet journey. We only have to provide a few pieces of information, as well as the date we will submit our written document for re-designation. • Interim Year 4 (April, 2021) - Submit annual DDCT to reflect information for 2020 and submit our written documentation for re-designation. If the document is accepted, it will be followed by a three day site visit very similar to our site visit this past February.
