A Destination Christmas Gift CMN MEMBER NON-PROFIT MINISTRY ENERGIZES FAMILY PRAYER
M
odern culture assaults families with a constant barrage of images and messages that undermine spiritual development. It is increasingly difficult for parents to infuse a rich and authentic Catholic faith in their children and teens. Often Christmas holiday experiences in films, advertising, gifts, and celebrations are now completely disconnected from the birthday of Jesus. Families need a way to immerse their sons and daughters in fun and faith-affirming family experiences that strengthen their souls. Holy Cross Family Ministries, the apostolate dedicated to promoting family prayer, and to promoting devotion to the Holy Rosary, has created a delightful spiritual oasis for families called the Museum of Family Prayer. This first-of-its-kind museum welcomes families to a unique, interactive, digital experience of prayer to experience together. The museum provides: INSPIRATION: A spiritual experience of prayer– touch, listen and watch, reflect and pray. EXPLORATION: Learn more about the history and power of prayer. CONNECTION: Time to reconnect with your family and your faith. Families also learn about the remarkable story of sainthood candidate, Father Patrick Peyton, C.S.C., who inspired the world with his timeless message, “The family that prays together stays together.” Real-life artifacts tell the story of the amazing life, ministry and priesthood of this modern spiritual champion... who mobilized the prayers of hundreds of thousands of people, from glamorous movie stars, to folks living in remote mission territories, and from moms and dads to tiny happy children.

THE MUSEUM GRAND OPENING IS SEPTEMBER 15, 2019 and will remain open Wednesdays through Sundays, from 10 am to 4 pm. Admission is free, and all ages are welcome! Children can prepare for a Museum of Prayer trip by gathering prayer intentions from friends, neighbors, and grandparents, to bring with them to dedicate to Jesus through Mary in a special way during their visit. Perhaps on a walk on the Rosary path would be the perfect opportunity. Settled in nature and tucked away from the sounds of town and traffic, the HCFM Rosary path is open to all who seek a quiet space for their prayers. All ages, abilities, and faiths are welcome to explore this prayerful experience. Plan a trip to the Museum of Family Prayer over the Christmas holidays, or perhaps as a surprise destination holiday gift to be enjoyed sometime in 2020. The Museum of Family Prayer is only 30 minutes from Providence, RI, 40 minutes from Boston, MA, and approximately 45 minutes from the beach. Easton, MA is home to the Easton Children’s Museum along with lovely historic sites. Plan a trip to lovely Massachusetts to experience American history, including America’s rich Catholic spiritual history at the Holy Cross Family Ministries Museum of Family Prayer.
Whoever has not begun the practice of prayer, I beg for the love of the Lord not to go without so great a good. There is nothing here to fear but only something to desire.

Christmas IS ALL ABOUT THE BABY!
CMN Members Champion Pro-life Values Christmas is when we get to celebrate a very special baby. Joyfully recalling birth of Jesus as a baby reminds us of the sacredness of every baby, born and unborn. Catholic Marketing Network is a deeply pro-life organization with members who champion the dignity of every life...at every stage, age, and ability. We are so honored to assist the growth and success of so many amazing organizations and individuals who work to advance the pro-life cause.
Affirming Pro-life Catholic Healthcare When Solidarity HealthShare cofounder Chris Faddis, tells the story of the genesis of this unique alternative to health insurance, you can’t help but get excited about the pro-life Catholic values that undergird the entire organization. This CMN member organization enables families to share each other’s health expenses in a way
that actually often costs less than typical health insurance. It is a rare company that truly offers pro-life peace of mind: each member’s health care dollars will never support organizations or practices inconsistent with with pro-life values. Solidarity Healthshare conforms to the moral guidelines of the Catholic Church so members never pay for anything that violates their conscience. Solidarity embraces Christmas pro-life principles 24/7... 365 days a year.
CMN member, Catholic Medical Association, provides Catholic physicians a sense of support and community in courageously upholding pro-life values in their work. They provide Catholic families a way to find and connect with doctors that won’t encourage teens to embrace contraception, and won’t include abortion or euthanasia in the array of services they refer or provide. Importantly, they provide educational resources to empower doctors, medical
students, educators, scientists, politicians, and families in choosing and promoting medical care that affirms faith and pro-life values. Energize your pro-life Christmas spirit in a practical way...connect with the Catholic Medical Association and support their work.
Influencing Culture to Value LIFE! As a marketing network, the Catholic Marketing Network is sensitive to the way marketing and messaging can influence culture in pro-life ways at Christmas or anytime. The Nativity’s focus on infancy is just a particularly opportune time when baby Jesus leads the way. New CMN Member, Hosea Initiative, led by Terry Beatley, is on a mission to help everyone understand and undo the toxic abortion messaging tactics that have dominated America for the past three decades. Perhaps a couple of tickets to the Hosea Initiative Life is
Beautiful Gala on Sunday, December 8th, 2019, in Washington DC, might be a fantastic early Christmas gift for a pro-life advocate or friend whom you’d like to thank for their efforts on behalf of unborn children and their parents. We celebrate the tenacity of CMN member Priests for Life in their courageous efforts to break through cultural noise that dehumanizes children as fetuses, and normalizes the barbarism of infanticide. Their tiny prayerbook, In the Palm of His Hand, Prayers to end Abortion, might be perfect to tuck into a Christmas stocking to plant seeds of prolife prayer to energize the souls of family and friends.

PRO-LIFE MOMENTUM
The CMN Momentum 2019 conference & trade-show in Lancaster, PA, exemplified the pro-life energy of the Catholic Marketing Network. Our July 2019 event energized the pro-life zeal of all our exhibitors and attendees. Pro-life champion, Abby Johnson helped everyone see the importance of each of our pro-life efforts as she shared important backstory moments from the powerful film, Unplanned. Pro-life Sponsor, Solidarity Healthshare brought us Dr. Scott Hahn, reminding us that the most important way we affirm life and faith in society, is the impact we have in our homes and families. We experienced riveting homilies from Priests for Life Founder, Father Frank Pavone. Forty Days for Life co-founder, David Beriet, inspired us with engaging personal stories as he introduced both Scott Hahn and Abby Johnson. Marian Press author, Father Chris Alar offered solace and support for coping with the issues of Suicide. The excitement of young local leaders of Generation Life brought us hope and joy! International Catholic Media Association President, Barry Smith brought us a sneak peek of animprotant new Pro-life Film: The First Seven Steps.

Reaching Christmas Customers & Constituents CMN SERVICE PROVIDER OFFERS BOTH LOCAL AND GLOBAL REACH
The Christmas season is the most important time to generate revenue in every business involved with product sales, or non-profit ministry raising funds. Connecting with your customers and constituents during the holidays is essential.
In 2019, Catholic Marketing Network
was happy to add the Catholic Ad Net organization in the growing ranks of service providers in our membership community. Catholic Ad Net is now one of a select group of our members whom we call CMN Preferred Providers. These are service providers who offer excellent customer care, price their services with great value for CMN members, and operate with honesty and integrity that CMN can confidently recommend. When we needed an affordable advertising resource to acquaint more businesses and ministries with CMN services, connect more Catholic individuals with our members, and build broader awareness for our 2019 MOMENTUM event, we used Catholic Ad Net. Through this process, we were pleased with what we experienced and we made powerful discoveries that we want to pass on to everyone. LOCAL REACH Among many excellent Catholic AdNet functions, the most important discovery we want to highlight is the way any organization who advertises on Catholic AdNet can customize the settings to choose local online ad views. We were able to target some of our ads to be viewed in a specific area within a certain driving distance to our event venue. We
did not waste advertising money on ad views by people who were far outside of the likely range to attend our event. Often, many of us non-geeks think of online exposure typically being national or global. The way Catholic AdNet enables their clients to customize the ad exposure to specifically target the computers, tablets and smartphones in a LOCAL area is a game-changer. CMN has such a big heart for retailers, small business and ministry organizations. You might feel at times like the Whos of Whoville in the story Horton Hears a Who. Like no one knows you are there. CMN member, Catholic AdNet, is making advertising accessible and affordable so that you can remind people, like Horton’s “Whos: “We are HERE! We ARE HERE! WE... ARE... HERE!” so that Catholics will be motivated to shop, serve, do business, and donate locally. AFFORDABLE REACH Most everyone is online somehow these days. Online outreach is an important part of how you build your customer or client base. Catholic AdNet offers self-service options on their advertising platform. This is why it is affordable. For “old-school” entrepreneurs and
ministry leaders, you’ll need to learn some new terms and techniques. But we work for a God who does the impossible. Routinely. We can navigate an on-line ad campaign. The mission God has called us to is worth it. Find a technology and/ or graphic design friend in the family to help you out. Catholic AdNet offers economical and effective tools to target a specific audience. However, many faithinspired businesses and ministries don’t budget for marketing and advertising in substantive ways. Truth is, it doesn’t matter how great your products, services, or ministry might be, organizations who don’t budget and invest in an intentional process to inform and motivate people to connect and be loyal to them... don’t succeed in their mission. Like a membership in CMN, Catholic AdNet can be a powerful tool in your marketing toolbox. The U.S. Small Business Administration recommends spending 7 to 8 percent of your gross revenue for marketing and advertising if you generate less than $5 million a year and your net margin—after all expenses—is in the 10 percent to 12 percent range. Perhaps that is a model you can consider as you make your plans for your organization to flourish over Christmas, finish strong in 2019, and build momentum in 2020.

THE POWER OF
CMN MOMENTUM BUSINESS AS MINISTRY SEMINARS
Applying Business Best Practices to the Service of God, the Church, and Society The Catholic Marketing Network strives to help our members maximize the impact of their mission. In 2019, we began a process to enhance the networking and connectivity benefits that we offer our members. The CMN Directory on our freshly updated website makes business and ministry connections as simple as a couple of clicks. Our new CMN Member Locator includes all CMN members, so everyone can not only SHOP local, but plan events and collaborate with local businesses and ministries as well. Find. Connect. Network. That is now the CMN online tagline. Beyond just fostering personal and professional connections, CMN is actually a “brain-trust of amazing professionals in marketing, ministry, and business development, whose knowledge can be a huge blessing to the other members. The Business as Ministry Seminar on Tuesday of CMN MOMENTUM Events, provides a truly affordable way to connect with these incredible professionals. CMN members, at any membership level, enjoy free access to this now enhanced conference portion of our our CMN event.
2019 CMN BUSINESS AS MINISTRY SEMINARS
In 2019 the CMN Business as Ministry Seminar was blessed with an outstanding line-up of presenters who delivered powerful content on marketing and business development. Our audience was composed largely of CMN individual and retail members. However, the C-level members and exhibitors who were able to take time to attend one or all of the presentations were impressed with the value of the experience. Donna Heckler kicked us off with an excellent keynote on “Marketing God.” Steve Smith empowered attendees to understand and navigate technology challenges. Patrick Novecosky drilled down into the power of strategic messaging. Luncheon speaker, Sarah Christmyer, strengthened everyone as workers in God’s vineyard. Cathy Gilmore provided a fun “bootcamp” perspective on business basics. Jimmy Mitchell wrapped up the day instructing in the mutual gift of mentoring. In the coming years, we heartily encourage each of our event exhibitors to send at least one member of their team to experience the CMN Business as Ministry “BAM” Seminar in the future. This quality of business best practice training would cost hundreds of dollars at other conference events, but with CMN, access is included for free with each membership.
CMN IS: CATHOLIC
MARKETING
NETWORK
The CMN has spent nearly 30 years as a support network for businesses and ministries engaged in Catholic evangelization. We consider it an honor to be a force for unity among pro-life Catholic entrepreneurs, professionals, and organizational leaders. Our membership community empowers and energizes on-fire Catholics to engage deeply, and share confidently, the goodness, truth, and beauty of the Catholic faith.
The CMN helps businesses and ministries who serve the needs of Catholics to connect with their target customers and constituents. We do this by facilitating business-to-business awareness of our member’s products and services. Our online CMN Directory now enables CMN members to build brand or ministry awareness directly to Catholic individuals and families as well. The spectrum of affordable CMN marketing & advertising options, serve both small and large businesses and ministries.
Most importantly, CMN is a trusted source for solidarity among organizations who serve Catholic organizations and individuals. Hundreds of business companies and nonprofit ministries have made substantive strides in the growth of their organization by making connections through CMN. Our online platform, and our annual events, are important facilitators to foster powerful relationships. CMN truly is “Where the Catholic Marketplace Comes Together!”

“You mean sixty-one seconds. You said sixty-one minutes, but you mean a little over one minute.” “No,” I said. “He didn’t have a pulse for over an hour.” After a healthy pregnancy, on September 16, 2010, Bonnie Engstrom delivered a stillborn baby boy. After sixty-one minutes, just when the doctors were going to call a time of death, James Fulton’s heart began to beat. In that sixty-one minutes, the Engstrom’s began asking for and counting on the powerful intercession of James’s namesake: Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. “A beautifully told story that will inspire every family to deeper faith.” — Jennifer Fulwiler
That James was alive at all was a miracle. But the rest of the story is even more amazing. While the Engstroms were preparing for their little boy to grow up blind, unable to walk or talk, and be fed by a tube for the rest of his life, another miracle occurred. Against all medical odds, James not only survived, but he began — and continues — to thrive. In 2014, medical experts and theological advisors to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints unanimously approved the miracle.
This amazing true story, full of weakness and strength, heartbreak and celebration, hope and joy, teaches us that through our faith in Christ and the prayers of the great cloud of witnesses, miracles are possible.

Mark Nelson & the Steubenville Christmas Nutcrackers CMN ENTREPRENEUR MAKES A DIFFERENCE
CMN member, Mark Nelson is a pretty resourceful guy. Whether he is helping construct a temporary exhibitor space in the expo hall at a CMN MOMENTUM event, or initiating a civic labor of love, his entrepreneurial, solution-focused, skills are a powerful force for good. Far more than being a premiere supplier of Catholic products, he has applied his “can-do” spirit to help revitalize his hometown of Stubenville, Ohio. ike many river towns in the Rust L Belt, Steubenville struggled as a result of the decline of the steel industry. The local small business community found it difficult to survive, and general community spirit was very low. Jerry Barilla, owner of a downtown Steubenville appliance store, had the inspiration to put collections of nutcrackers on display in empty storefronts as a way to draw people downtown during the Christmas season and to help build community. His idea, offered at a meeting of a local business owners in early 2015, inspired Mark Nelson, owner of Nelson Fine Art and Gifts, to take it a step further.
“I left the meeting and had my daughter, Madeline, our company’s graphic designer, print off a 6 foot tall picture of a nutcracker for inspiration. With the help of my brother, Mike, who runs our wood shop, we built a prototype.” The prototype was such a hit that 150 more nutcrackers followed over the next three years. Mark’s daughter, Thérèse, continues to oversee the project and designs the nutcrackers, while Brodie Stutzman, a woodworker in Nelson’s shop, has done all the carving. The project has attracted thousands of people to the city, it has inspired new businesses, but most of all, it has helped refresh the spirit of the local community. Mark’s humble efforts are a great example of how Catholic entrepreneurs can use effective business methods to great good in the world. Mark’s family business story is like a Catholic real-life Hallmark Christmas movie where a business is a ministry, helping sustain the soul of a community. The Steubenville Christmas Nutcrackers are proof that generous American ingenuity, and a bit of hard work, can help family livelihoods to flourish by transforming an urban downtown community into a very happy & hospitable holiday destination. Doing business with the retailers who carry Nelson products is a great way to, in the words of Ben Franklin, “Do well by doing good.” Check out the Catholic Marketing Network Member Locator to find a great Catholic retailer carrying Nelson Fine Art and Gifts near you.

Hugs from Heaven - a doll company for believers, was founded by a south Louisiana Catholic wife and mom of four, Julie Marceaux Romero. She was inspired by her own real-life experience when her brother Chad underwent life-threatening transplant surgeries at Mercy Medical Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. During the operations, Julie prayed in the chapel, wishing for the Lord’s physical presence to hold and comfort her. In that moment, she received a clear vision from Jesus to create a “hug from heaven”, a soft pillow doll in His image, to share with the world. This was the beginning of our company. Each plush replica of Jesus Christ and Mother Mary have a heart monogrammed on their chest to serve as a reminder of God’s comfort, God’s presence, God’s Mercy but most of all GOD’S LOVE! HUGGING BACK. We believe that when you get a hug, you should hug back! With each sale, we give back a portion of our income to those in need. MATTHEW 25:40
