An Evening of Praise and Prayer
7 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2024
St. Mark Catholic Church Huntersville, NC
Holy Hour with Benediction:What is Holy Hour, Exposition and Benediction?
Bishop-elect Michael Martin, OFM Conv. For some, this evening’s hour of praise and prayer may be a first experience before the Blessed Sacrament. Catholics believe that at Mass at the moment of consecration, Jesus is really present in the Eucharist, and that He remains present in the Eucharist reserved in the Tabernacle of all Catholic churches and chapels. Often, Catholics visit these churches and chapels to pray before the Tabernacle, knowing that Jesus is really present there in a unique way. At times, the Blessed Sacrament is “exposed” or placed on visual display for all of us to adore and worship our God really present in the Eucharist. A larger host that has been consecrated at Mass is placed in a sacred vessel known as a monstrance, which is then placed on the altar for a period of time set aside for special prayer and praise.
Normally, we are invited to kneel when the Blessed Sacrament is first exposed on the altar, and then are free to remain kneeling for a time or sit if that is more conducive for your prayer. We will stand for the reading of the Gospel, be seated for the Homily, and remain seated or kneel for the time of quiet prayer and adoration. We will all kneel for Benediction, a time at the end of the service when the priest or deacon blesses the congregation with the Blessed Sacrament in the monstrance. We will then stand for the closing song.
This evening, as we spiritually prepare for tomorrow’s episcopal ordination, we take this time to sing God’s praises for all of the good He has done in all of our lives and in the life of the Church of Charlotte. We bring to God our needs, our thanks, and call upon the Holy Spirit to bless each of us and our Church. Use the time of song to allow your heart to be lifted up to God, and use the time of silent adoration to speak to God in whatever way and with whatever needs the Holy Spirit moves you. Enjoy this time of communion with one another in prayer and praise before the Real Presence of Jesus.
Entrance & Exposition Hymn
O Come to the Altar Brock
Are you hurting and broken within?
Overwhelmed by the weight of your sin?
Jesus is calling
Have you come to the end of yourself?
Do you thirst for a drink from the well?
Jesus is calling
O come to the altar
The Father’s arms are open wide Forgiveness was bought with The precious blood of Jesus Christ
Leave behind your regrets and mistakes Come today, there’s no reason to wait
Jesus is calling
Bring your sorrows and trade them for joy From the ashes, a new life is born
Jesus is calling
O come to the altar
The Father’s arms are open wide Forgiveness was bought with The precious blood of Jesus Christ
(Bridge) Oh, what a Savior; Isn’t He wonderful? Sing hallelujah, Christ is risen Bow down before Him; For He is Lord of all Sing hallelujah, Christ is risen
O come to the altar
The Father’s arms are open wide Forgiveness was bought with The precious blood of Jesus Christ
Time of Praise & Worship
Good, Good Father Brown, Barrett
I’ve heard a thousand stories of what they think You’re like But I’ve heard the tender whisper of love in the dead of night You tell me that You’re pleased and that I’m never alone
You’re a good, good Father, it’s who You are, It’s who You are, it’s who You are; and I’m loved by You, It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am
I’ve seen many searching for answers far and wide But I know we’re all searching for answers only You provide Because You know just what we need before we say a word
You’re a good, good Father, it’s who You are, It’s who You are, it’s who You are; and I’m loved by You, It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am
(Bridge) You are perfect in all of Your ways (repeat) You are perfect in all of Your ways to us
Love so undeniable I can hardly speak Peace so unexplainable I can hardly think As You call me deeper still, as You call me deeper still As You call me deeper still into love, love, love
You’re a good, good Father, it’s who You are, It’s who You are, it’s who You are; and I’m loved by You, It’s who I am, it’s who I am, it’s who I am
O God, my soul is thirsting for you, longing for you.
O God, my soul is thirsting for you, longing for you
God, you are the God whom I seek, for you my flesh pines And my soul thirsts, like the earth, parched lifeless without water.
O God, my soul is thirsting for you, longing for you.
O God, my soul is thirsting for you, longing for you
I gaze toward you to see your power and your glory, for your kindness is a greater good than life. My lips will glorify you!
O God, my soul is thirsting for you, longing for you.
O God, my soul is thirsting for you, longing for you
I will bless you while I live. Lifting my hands up, I call on your name. As in a banquet, my soul satisfied, my mouth will praise you!
O God, my soul is thirsting for you, longing for you. O God, my soul is thirsting for you, longing for you
You are my help; under your wings I shout for joy. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me, O God!
O God, my soul is thirsting for you, longing for you.
O God, my soul is thirsting for you, longing for you
© 2014 Witchger MusicAll my words fall short; I got nothing new How could I express; All my gratitude
I could sing these songs; As I often do But every song must end; And You never do
So I throw up my hands
And praise You again and again
‘Cause all that I have is a hallelujah, hallelujah
And I know it’s not much But I’ve nothing else fit for a king
Except for a heart singing hallelujah, hallelujah
I’ve got one response; I’ve got just one move With my arms stretched wide; I will worship You
So I throw up my hands
And praise You again and again
‘Cause all that I have is a hallelujah, hallelujah
And I know it’s not much But I’ve nothing else fit for a king
Except for a heart singing hallelujah, hallelujah
(Bridge) Come on my soul; Oh don’t you get shy on me
Lift up your song; ‘Cause you’ve got a lion inside of those lungs
Get up and praise the Lord (repeat)
So I throw up my hands
And praise You again and again
‘Cause all that I have is a hallelujah, hallelujah
And I know it’s not much But I’ve nothing else fit for a king
Except for a heart singing hallelujah, hallelujah
The King of love my shepherd is, whose goodness fails me never; I nothing lack if I am his, and he is mine forever.
How can my heart turn away?
Jesus I love you, Jesus I love you. You are my song and my strength, Jesus I love you.
Where streams of living water flow with gentle care he leads me. And where the verdant pastures grow, With heavenly food he feeds me.
How can my heart turn away?
Jesus I love you, Jesus I love you. You are my song and my strength, Jesus I love you.
Perverse and foolish I have strayed, But yet in love he sought me, And on his shoulder gently laid, And home, rejoicing, brought me.
How can my heart turn away?
Jesus I love you, Jesus I love you. You are my song and my strength, Jesus I love you.
In death’s dark vale I fear no ill With you, dear Lord, beside me; Your rod and staff my comfort still, Your cross before to guide me.
How can my heart turn away?
Jesus I love you, Jesus I love you. You are my song and my strength, Jesus I love you.
You spread a table in my sight; Your saving grace bestowing: And O what joy and true delight, From your pure chalice flowing!
© 2018 OCPAll the poor and powerless And all the lost and lonely And all the thieves will come confess And know that You are holy And know that You are holy
And all will sing out hallelujah And we will cry out hallelujah
All the hearts who are content And all who feel unworthy
And all who hurt with nothing left Will know that You are holy
And all will sing out hallelujah And we will cry out hallelujah
(Bridge) Shout it!
Go on and scream it from the mountains
Go on and tell it to the masses that He is God (repeat)
We will sing out hallelujah And we will cry out hallelujah
We will sing out hallelujah, shout it
Shout it!
Go on and scream it from the mountains
Go on and tell it to the masses that He is God (repeat)

Most High and glorious God, enlighten the darkness of my heart and give me true faith, certain hope, and perfect charity, sense and knowledge, Lord, that I may carry out your holy and true command.

Alleluia Gospel
Luke 5:1-9 The Call of Simon the Fisherman
+ A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke
While the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening to the word of God, he was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret.
He saw two boats there alongside the lake; the fishermen had disembarked and were washing their nets.
Getting into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, he asked him to put out a short distance from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat.
After he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.”
Simon said in reply, “Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets.”
When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish and their nets were tearing.
They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come to help them. They came and filled both boats so that they were in danger of sinking.
When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at the knees of Jesus and said, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.”
For astonishment at the catch of fish they had made seized him and all those with him.
The Gospel of the Lord. R. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.
Aleluya Evangelio
R. Gloria a Ti, Señor Jesús.

This is Amazing Grace Riddle
Who breaks the power of sin and darkness?
Whose love is mighty and so much stronger?
The King of Glory, the King above all kings Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder? Who leaves us breathless in awe and wonder?
The King of Glory, the King above all kings
This is amazing grace, this is unfailing love, That You would take my place, that You would bear my cross! You would lay down Your life, That I would be set free. Jesus, I sing for all that You’ve done for me!
Who brings our chaos back into order? Who makes the orphan a son and daughter?
The King of Glory, the King above all kings Who rules the nations with truth and justice?
Shines like the sun in all of its brilliance?
The King of Glory, the King above all kings
This is amazing grace, this is unfailing love, That You would take my place, that You would bear my cross! You would lay down Your life, That I would be set free. Jesus, I sing for all that You’ve done for me!
(Bridge) Worthy is the Lamb who was slain And worthy is the King who conquered the grave (repeat)
This is amazing grace, this is unfailing love, That You would take my place, that You would bear my cross! You would lay down Your life, That I would be set free. Jesus, I sing for all that You’ve done for me!
