3Fall Dance Company is an established, non-profit dance company based in Chichester providing performances and workshops across the UK
The repertoire of our 2022 spring tour consists of 3 works by professional choreographers: Shaun Dillon, Antonia Grove and Amy Morvell, alongside works from our emerging choreographers from the University of Chichester
The company is made up of 14 performers and a student lead administrative and technical team. All members of this company are in their final year of study towards a BA (Hons) in Dance and Dance performance
Shaun Dillon A guide to the end of the World
Driven by a score from Dillon Dance Associate Composer Jonny Colgan. A Guide to the End of the World is an episodic contemporary dance work broken up into three parts. The contributing factors to the end of and the what happens next? What do we have when there is nothing left but our humanity? How do we find hope again? Ask yourself, If the world was going to end tonight, what would you do? Where would you go? Who would you become? BiographyArtistic Director of Dillon Dance, Shaun Dillon has worked as a choreographer and educational specialist for the past 10 years. Shaun studied contemporary dance at the University of Roehampton, graduating in 2012 with a BA Hons in Dance Studies. He then spent time working as a dance artist in various capacities for projects such as New Adventures and Re:Bourne, Flexus Dance Theatre, Sadler’s Wells, Third Row Dance Company, Volkosti Cossacks, and C-12 Dance Theatre. Working with established choreographers Matthew Bourne, Scott Ambler, Lee Smikle, Katy Sterran, Shaun Parker, James Finnemore, Annie-Lunette Deakin-Foster, Mari Frogner, and Georgia Tegou.
Amy Morvell No Clocking off No Clocking Off jumps between our thoughts, our dreams, and our reality. In a year that has been like no other, the work explores the chaos that has surrounded us seen through the eyes of those who cannot clock off. BiographyAmy Morvell is a Dance Artist based in the South of England and was an Associate Artist of The Point. Amy is the Artistic Director of Morvell Dance produced by Lîla Dance and has successfully received Arts Council funding to create her production, Turtle Dove. This has been toured across the UK and internationally to Abundance International Dance Festival -Sweden. Amy has gone on to create outdoor work, Nice to Meet You and dance films, The Lockdown Moving Images Series. Amy dances professionally for companies; Lîla Dance in The Hotel Experience and rehearsal direct their outdoor work My Bit, Ella&co (Ella Fleetwood) in #NoFilter, Wessex Company in PRANA (Laila Delalio & Hannah Martin-Reilly) & Katie Dale Everett Dance’s Empa, CAJ COLLAB as part of Dance Reading Festival, Nikki Watson & Ashley Peevor’s in The Lost Opera.
Antonia Grove Iconograph Choregraphed by Antonia Grove in collaboration with 3Fall Dance Company. Iconograph was originally choreographed in a rigid grid structure due to the pandemic and explores a graph-like structure to the space. With these grids now removed, the linear structure still remains with the dancers performing on the stage as if it’s a canvas, painting the space with solos portraying an iconic character. These identities ranged from people like: Martin Luther King, Frida Kahlo, Marina Abramavić, Judy Garland, Quentin Tarantino, Sacagawea and David Bowie, to name a few. Music composition by Antonia Grove: ‘Warm Clicked Fruit, White Rainbow/Blackbird, Nina Simone/ My Freedom, Neverne Bebe/ Andy Warhol, David Bowie/ Dragonfly Across An Ancient Sky, Helios/ Stay, David Bowie/ Bubbles, Yosi Horikawa/ Sendo Kawaiya, Kikutaro Takahashi/ Virus, Bjork. Bagatelle No.25 in A Minor, Beethoven/ Black Gloves, Goose. BiographyAntonia trained at the Rambert School and went straight on to join Rambert Dance Company (1998-2003). She has recently been seenworking with The National Theatre, Random Dance, Bonachela Dance Company, The Cholmondeleys, Charles Linehan Company, New Art Club, Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre, Walker Dance Park Music, Matthias Sperling, Clod Ensemble, HeadSpaceDance and Vincent Dance Theatre.
Emerging choreographers ‘Lucid’ Choreographed by Zoë Wheal Performed by Alice Hunter, Hattie Musgrove, Issy Rodda. Music: ‘00.26’ bu Ólafur Arnalds and Nils Frahm. ‘Lemuria’ by DNGDNGDNG and Dengue Dengue Dengue ‘Undefined’ by Paul Tinsley. Lucid’ explores the absurd nature of recurring dreams, giving light to the peculiarities our brains are able to come up with.
‘Charge’ Choreographed by Hattie Musgrove Performed by India-Rose Cox, Megan Hodson, Isobel Rodda, Lauren McIntyre, Lauren Scott, Zoë Wheal. Music: ‘Slow End’ by Richard Chartier ‘Heljafor’ by Danhein ‘Data.Duplex’ by Ryoji Ikeda Charge’ explores humans’ instinctive response to threat., with focus on the ‘flight or fight’ response. ‘Charge’ also has a strong relationship with the accompaniment to create a physical movement language.
’Pareidolia’ Choreographed by Lauren McIntyre Performed by India-Rose Cox, Joe Sanders, Lydia Saunders, Lauren McIntyre. Music: ‘First day’ and ‘Filter Attempt’ by Thomas Newman ‘Four hands African Brazilian Percussion’ by Cave Percussion ‘Floating into space’ by AK. With a strong connection to the lively accompaniment, ‘Pareidolia’ explores the possible lines and forms that the human body can create. 4 dancers create intricate patterns whilst using their bodies to present
Meet the dancers Alice Hunter
Emma MacAlister
Alice started dancing at age 4 doing modern, tap and ballet. This was at a local dance school now known as Brooks Dance Academy. She trained there until she was 17. During school she took GCSE & triple btec Dance which is when she started to train in contemporary. Whilst in sixth form she was part of the Brighton and Hove Youth Company and performed at Laban. Alice took a couple of years out of dance and did an art foundation at City College and specialised in illustration. She still practises her art alongside her degree. After college she volunteered back at her previous sixth form in the dance department to prepare herself for university. During this time she went on a trip to New York where she took part in workshops at the Martha Graham studios and Steps on Broadway. After her BA, Alice plans on taking a masters in either dance or illustration.
Emma began dancing when she was 4 starting with ballet, tap and modern and later took up other styles at the Gielgud academy of performing arts. It was here where she first discovered contemporary dance on the new ISTD syllabus and was taught by Dr Ross McKim, former artistic director of Rambert school. She studied dance at secondary school and carried on to do a triple btec diploma in dance at East Sussex college. At college, she further studied contemporary dance and other styles such as jazz and commercial dance. Emma has previously taught ballet at her local dance school, so after university she is thinking about doing a teaching course so she can share her love of dance with others.
Hattie Musgrove
Hattie began dancing at the age of eleven. She competed in freestyle competitions for seven years. Alongside this, she completed her GCSE and A level dance. Following this, she joined Chhaya Youth Dance Company, led by Kay Crook. She was also a member of the National Youth Dance Company in 2019 where she worked with choreographer Botis Seva and completed a national tour including venues such as Sadler’s Wells. After graduating, she would love to continue performing and exploring her own choreographic voice.
India Cox
India recently Graduated from The Hammond in Chester receiving an HND in Professional Dance. During her time there she was also a part of Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures’ production of Romeo and Juliet. As a member of the Young Cast at the Birmingham Hippodrome, India worked alongside the professional performers and production team- an incredible experience of which she is eternally grateful for. India was also a part of DanceXchange’s CADT Programme and Motion House’s Youth Company, prior to moving to Chester for her studies at The Hammond. In addition to dance, India was a competitive gymnast for most of her childhood, competing Regionally and Nationally. It is only now from being a part of Motion House Youth and embracing these other opportunities that she found she could explore the hybridity of Acrobatics and Contemporary dance, fueling her passion for choreography. After a tricky few years due to the pandemic, India is very much looking forward to performing onstage with this brilliant company and hope you enjoy the work as much as she enjoys performing it.
Isobel Rhodda
Issy discovered contemporary dance whilst studying GCSE and A Level dance at The Angmering School. During her studies she joined The L and S Youth company allowing her to gain an insight into being a company member and enhance her performance skills. After university, Issy hopes to continue performing and exploring contemporary dance and physical theatre.
Joe Sanders
Joe has been dancing since age of 13, studying a range of different disciplines such as Jazz, Hip Hop, Ballet and Contemporary dance. Whilst attending Matravers Secondary School Joe achieved both A* and A grade results at GCSE and A-level in Dance. As well as studying dance at school, Joe was involved in an all boy’s dance academy, ‘Endurance Dance Company’. Joe attended the academy from the age 14 for four years where he partook in many dance events and competitions, such as: West Wilts Dance festival in 2017, Origins Dance Festival 2018 and Rambert Elements 2017, Regional Finals. Discovering a passion for performing, Joe applied to Dance Performance BA(hons) at Chichester University where he was offered a place on the course. Throughout the two years of study, Joe has grown as a dancer and is hoping to achieve work performing in the dance industry after 3fall.
Lauren Scott
Lauren started dancing at the age of 15 training in contemporary dance at GCSE level. She continued her contemporary training through college at Collyers 6th Form. Lauren trained at Roshe Performing Arts to improve her classical technique in preparation for higher education. Lauren then trained for a year at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and then moved to the Dance Performance course at Chichester University. Through her training at Chichester Lauren discovered her interest in Yoga and after graduating would like to travel and train to gain qualification as a Yoga practitioner.
Lauren McIntyre
Lauren started dancing when she was 4 at the Kathy Davis school of dance and was introduced to contemporary dance when she joined the Dorset Youth Dance company. Lauren studied dance at GCSE and Alevel alongside competing and performing in youth platforms across the south. She chose the Dance Performance Ba (Hons) degree course at the University of Chichester to help her continue to discover the possibilities with dance whilst also meeting a wide range of professionals and artists. She hopes to continue dancing as a freelance artists, hopefully breaching out into Europe.
Lydia Saunders
Megan Hodson
Lydia started training in flamenco and ballet at the age of 4 whilst living in Spain. Living in the Canary Islands, she was a member of the Tenerife Tigers cheerleading team and competed internationally with them, she also competed in jazz and lyrical. As a member of the Estrellas Performing Arts School, she gained LAMDA qualifications and took part in multiple musical productions across the island of Tenerife. After moving to the UK during her secondary school education to study GCSE dance, she discovered an appreciation for contemporary dance and chose to peruse it at A level, continuing it on as a degree in Dance Performance. Lydia very much appreciates the opportunities the course and being part of 3fall have given her at the University of Chichester.
Megan has danced her whole life; starting with baby ballet, she then went onto learn tap, theatre craft, modern jazz, musical theatre, ballroom and many more. Megan believes she was fortunate for her involvement with The International Dance Teachers Association (IDTA) as she gained experience lecturing and performing with her teacher while acquiring stages of advanced levels in previously mentioned varieties of dance. During Megan’s time with IDTA where she expanded her knowledge with various teachers and choreographers including, Matthew Croke, Nazene Danielle, Matt Cole and Darren Carnall. Megan is currently expanding her dance education with Chichester University on the Ba (Hons) Dance performance course, where she is learning various styles of contemporary including release technique as well as developing her individual style. At the university Megan is now in her third year of cheerleading with the WSIHE Wolves, three teams of level 1&2 cheerleading as well as a Poms team. Megan is looking to take as many opportunities as possible after university to broaden her dance experience and life knowledge through travelling and learning always.
Olivia Challand
Olivia started training at the age of 3 in ballet at Parkewood School of Dance in Eastleigh. From there she was introduced to jazz, modern, tap and contemporary. During this time she had the opportunity to perform at many venues, including The Mayflower Theatre, Disneyland Paris and Winchester Cathedral for actor Sarah Parish’s charity event. She continued to study dance throughout GCSE’s and A-Levels where she gained more of an insight into the contemporary dance world before coming to Chichester university. After graduating Olivia would love to continue performing or do a PGCE to start teaching dance.
Sijia Li
Sijia studied Chinese classical dance and folk dance in China for 10 years. She then came to the UK to study because she became interested in contemporary dance during college and wanted to continue dancing after graduation. In the future, she hopes she can continue to perform.
Sophie Jones
Sophie has danced since she was the age of 3, starting with ballet then proceeding into tap, modern, acro and pointe. She studied dance at Havant and Southdowns college, participating in many different workshops throughout the two years. She fell in love with performing after given the amazing opportunity to dance at top venues such as, The Royal Albert Hall, O2 arena, Sadler’s Wells and Disneyland Paris. After university Sophie would like to move back to her home town of Wales and study a MA in business management to further her knowledge to one day be able to set up her own business, and further to this be able to one day build a dance school big enough to have a chain.
Zoe Wheal
Zoe began dancing at the age of 3 as part of musical theatre training. She then took contemporary and street dance classes starting at the age of 12. She later completed a satellite CAT scheme and became a part of youth contemporary dance companies, Impulse youth dance Hertfordshire and MDC youth dance company with Hot House Dance in Hitchin. She has also completed both GCSE and A-Level dance courses. Zoe is currently on the dance performance degree at the University of Chichester and can’t wait to perform as part of the 3Fall dance company of 2022!
