THE CLOUD
In 2016 the Lighting Laboratory is very excited to move into the new inspiring facilties at the main campus. The future home to the KTH Lighting Laboratory is an innovative fully glazed roof that will serve as a space for eduction and research on digital lighting, electric lighting and daylighting.
LUMINAIRE DESIGN TASK
The task was to create a working prototype for a new luminaire. The given scenario was “The Cloud - future allocation of the Lighting Laboratory. The process included a conceptual part in which idea, function and properties were developed. Furthermore a technical part in which the new product was realised and set to life.

FIREFLY
FOLDING LIGHT A wall-mounted luminaire that illuminates in two different ways when folded. When switched off the luminaire is a flat wooden surface perpendicular to the wall. To create a task light the luminaire is folded downwards. For a wall-washing effect the light can be distributed 278 towards the wall giving indirect light. Each position of the luminaire is held in place by magnets. 278

POINT OF VIEW
During the day, you frame the view you want to have; a cherry tree, your favorite rooftop, people passing by... As the day turns to night, the frame slowly fills with light. It invites you to come closer, to appreciate the view even when it’s dark. Maybe it will remind you that the night is also bright, when you turn off your lights. Technical info LED light source

LIGHT KIT LightKit is a task light consisting of a base, a pole and two lightmodules – one uplight and one downlight. It combines three basic principles: modularity, simplicity and flexibility. LightKit encourages the creativity of the user by providing the option to manually install the lightmodules, adjust their heights and rotate them 90 degrees according to the demands of the user.

FIREFLY 284284 142 142
Firefly creates an ambient background light to soften the interior space. During daytime the curtain will function as a sun shade and during night time as a reflector for the luminaire. The user can create various luminous compositions by moving the curtain, and arrange the light distribution. The luminaire uses a standardized pin hook system to maximize the compabiility of the already existing curtain market. Technical info
