Urban Outfitters Kaledoscopic Object for Meditation Responsive Lose your inhibitions Tessellate Harvey Nichols Louis Vuitton The Hip Store TShirt Store Diversity All Walks Self Directed

Urban Outfitters Modelled by Tom Clark Clothing by Urban Outfitters A live brief to create an image to be displayed in the Trinity Store in Leeds, to represent what Leeds style has to offer. I decided to focus on Menswear and explore what at the time men of Leeds tend to wear when I’m out and about in the city. I focused on patterns in particular, shirts, jeans and smart shoes to present a ‘casual’ every day look to present my representation of a typical Leeds male.

A live brief to create an image customised from already made garments to be made into a new one. My final garment is made from drawstring shorts for the sleeves and a vintage skirt as the base, my whole garment is oversized in the style of African fashion.

Object for Meditation Modelled by Olivia Johnson A brief focusing on creating an art piece based from Leeds City Gallery, I decided to focus on a piece of abstract art by Frank Avray Wilson. I chose this as I was interested in the history behind his work as he studied science at university. Wilson is influenced by environment, science and nature in a lot of his work. To respond to this I created a printed scarf influenced by plant cells and abstract colours. The final photographs are in response to the name of the piece ‘Meditation’ by presenting these in a meditation position.

Lose your inhibitions

Modelled by Jan Cassar and Norma Kelly This photoshoot was an inspiration taken from the Marks & Spencer ‘Leading Ladies’ campaign, as my zine ‘Tessellate’ used menswear at my Harvey Nichols photoshoot I decided to style Jan and Norma in menswear clothing so in the final product it all related to each other as the idea of ‘Losing Inhibition’ to create a fun, free feel to the final photographs. This photoshoot was a key inspiration for my Extended Practice work, ‘Untitled Streets’ which is my self-published book.

Images inspired by the Marks & Spencer ‘Leading Ladies’ campaign for my Tessellate zine. An image was then

chosen to be exhibited in the Hip Store, store,Leeds, Leeds.Trinity Centre

Zine and film created around the theme of Lose your inhibitions Clothing by The Hip Store Modelled by Matt Lavin

Harvey Nichols Within the making of my zine Tessellate we had the opportunity to collaborate with Harvey Nichols, my chosen concept ‘Lose your Inhibitions’ made me chose bold, vibrant prints by Versace, Alexander McQueen and Kenzo. I filmed behind the scenes of my photoshoot which then appeared in my finished fashion film alongside clothes featured from the Hip Store.

Louis Vuitton Modelled by Monic Dzej Make up by Jodie Johnston A live brief in collaboration with Louis Vuitton to present the idea of our own interpretation of What is luxury? I decided to work on the idea of the material of lace being a luxury fabric to wear and own, alongside the idea of ‘relaxation’. For styling ideas I took inspiration from photographers such as Horst and Richard Avedon and recreated my own 1940s photograph by using soft gothic make-up and delicate lace materials.

What is luxury?

Lace and Relaxation Lace is a luxury fabric Relaxation as a luxury

The Hip Store collaboration A project by Leeds College of Art Fashion Communication students collaborating with the Hip Store in Leeds. The theme chosen was ‘Light after Dark’ a concept focusing on new beginnings, perspective angles, winter themes and the city of Leeds. I was on the graphics team, meaning my role was to design the layout of the zine, select chosen images from the photography groups and decide on printing methods for the final product.

With how the zine looks, we came up with the idea of the front and back being the same photograph. So therefore when the viewer opens the zine, you open it like a book and folds out like this. The idea of this is so we could fit all photography and film groups images in the zine. This layout was inspirational for the design of the zine we have chosen to have plenty of white space and two box images on the same page. We have done this for two of the pages and the rest are full images. We also liked the idea of having an image spread over two pages

In terms of the design of the invitation we decided on an Avenir font, same as the Hip Store’s branding to keep it all the same. When researching we liked the simplicity of this layout, alongside the type writer font to present a clear and simple presentation of our event and the brand itself.

Final zine

We designed the zine in inDesign and edited a few in Photoshop. We have used images that were given to us by the groups. These pictures we printed onto A4 just to see what it would look until we printed the final copy. Ultimately I am pleased with how this result.

T-shirt Store in Leeds

A live brief with the T-shirt store in Leeds to create fun, original and different t-shirt designs as well as something on trend. I decided to look into nature as a subject, and researched into how tree shapes can be reflected in a unique print design. I decided to do this as the T-shirt store do not usually use a lot of abstract prints within their designs so I thought this would be the opportunity to illustrate. I developed my designs through drawing tree branches, but then shaping them together like lungs to represent a upper body human form on each print.

Inspiration

Watch Diversity film vimeo.com/120513845 “Ask yourself, what would be a world without colour? Colour allows us to enlighten our personalities however we choose to do so. Understanding that we are unique, and recognising individual differences despite our gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation. The body paint on the face is to present that our qualities should flare out into a vibrancy, if we feel somewhat disconnected some days we should remember that our diverse character, is a colour itself.
