DIRECTOR’S FOREWORD We look forward to welcoming Australian artist Belinda Fox back to Hong Kong for her second solo show at The Cat Street Gallery. Belinda Fox is a multidiscipline artist, working in printmaking, painting, ceramics, and sculpture. Her work, which is often described, as beautifully rendered and technically accomplished investigates fragility and imbalance in an increasingly unstable world. Belinda’s upcoming show “Still/Life” explores the recurring theme of imbalance. This is a frequent subject covered in her work and “Still/Life” looks to address how life is beautiful and calm regardless of its messy, unforgiving and often irresponsible circumstances. Her creativity comes largely from travel and Asia in particular. By documenting her trip through photographs, Belinda has a whole archive to inspire her. She states, “my work usually emerges through a creative process of filtering images and experiences. I’m really interested in dualities: hope and doubt; positive and negative; the amazing things humanity is capable of and the awful deeds we sometimes do”. Belinda Fox has won numerous awards for her printmaking and drawing including the Paul Guest Drawing Prize (nominated for a second time in 2016), the Burnie Print Prize and the Silk Cut award for lino- cuts. She has received funding grants to undertake artist in residencies in USA, Greece, Singapore, Darwin, Perth, Sydney and Tasmania and she has participated in major survey exhibitions of contemporary Australian printmaking in the UK, China and Australian Regional galleries.
