Genetic Evaluation Statement Santa Gertrudis Breeders International’s genetic evaluation is one of the most comprehensive among the Bos indicus influenced breeds, ensuring profitable genetics can be selected for your operation. Over the past 8-year period, Santa Gertrudis breeders have increased selection pressure on traits that have a positive influence on profitability. Profit starts with a live calf and increases when industry end-point targets are hit. Regardless of your marketing strategy, selling by the pound at weaning, retaining ownership and grid-marketing, establishing a consumer direct market, or taking advantage of the replacement female market, Santa Gertrudis genetics ensure that herd goals can be reached. SANTA GERTRUDIS are DATA DRIVEN and PROFIT PROVEN. SGBI Expected Progeny Differences Expected Progeny Differences, EPDs, are the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the SGBI database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure (plus or minus) for each trait being evaluated and are calculated utilizing pedigree and performance information. SGBI is a leader in the adoption and implementation of cutting-edge genetic technology. In 2013, SGBI released the first genomic-enhanced expected progeny differences (DNA verified) for Bos indicus-influenced cattle. The inclusion of DNA into the breed’s EPD calculations (GE-EPDs) has resulted in information that is more accurate and predicable than a pedigree and performance prediction alone. Currently, the association has access to more than 12,000 performance verifying DNA samples. In addition, to being the first Bos indicus-influenced breed to offer GE-EPDs, SGBI was the first beef breed to implement single-step methodology for the incorporation of genetic information into the genetic evaluation. This approach maximizes use of data reported on all animals throughout the pedigree and greatly improves the EPD accuracy. SGBI Indices SGBI offers three selection indices for cattleman use. Indices are multi-trait selection tools designed to assist cattle producers by adding simplicity to genetic selection decisions. Indices provide an estimate of how future progeny of each sire are expected to perform, on average, compared to progeny of other sires in the database if the sires were randomly mated to cows and the calves were exposed to the same environment. SGBI’s indices provide performance insight to 3 beef production business models. The results are reported as a percentile ranking for each index. Balanced Index: This index assumes that producers are keeping replacement heifers from the bulls they purchase. It further assumes that producers are either 1) marketing carcasses on the grid or 2) that buyers of their feeder calves base pricing on feedlot and carcass performance. This selection tool is designed to assist cattlemen who retain ownership through the feeding phase or market their calf crop to buyers focused on feedlot performance and/or carcass quality. Cow/Calf Index: This index assumes that producers are keeping replacement heifers from the bulls they purchase. However, it assumes all calves are marketed at weaning or soon thereafter. It further assumes that feeder calf buyers don’t base decisions on feedlot or carcass performance, making these traits less relevant to profitability. Producers marketing their calf crop at weaning, by the pound, would utilize this index when making animal selection decisions. Terminal Index: This index assumes that producers are not keeping replacement heifers from the bulls they purchase. It assumes that producers are marketing carcasses on the grid, making carcass traits relevant to their business. This index fits operations using Santa Gertrudis bulls as terminal sires and retaining ownership of their calf crop through the feeding phase. Open Donor - Selling 100% ownership. Briggs Ranches is retaining one flush with guarantee of 6 embryos at sellers’ expense. Lot 10A: Briggs 605G4 (20193539), heifer calf born 10/1/2019 out of Briggs 116/13 Lot 10: (20133947). Briggs 745/14 We chose Briggs 754/14 for this sale almost one year ago. Reason being is we think she is one of the better all around cows from the entire 1,000 plus herd. Meaning if someone were going to “PICK” one animal from the Briggs Ranches herd we think it would be Briggs 754/14! 754/14 puts everything together so well. For starters and most important, she has a 355 day calving interval after 5 calves. She is ranked the #4 cow in the entire breed for REA along with being the #25 cow in the entire breed for YW. With that said, 754/14 is moderate in frame. She producess moderate frame as well. Her moderate framed daughter Briggs 605E3 sold in this past year’s TriStar Sale as a bred heifer for $11,000. Briggs 754/14 also ranks in the Top 3% for 6 EPD traits including SC and Marbling. Her heifer calf Briggs 605G4 on her side is a show stopper we think as well. Fully guaranteed! Works great in IVF procedures! Truly the “VERY BEST” we could bring!

SR 54/18 is an own daughter of KR Catalyst 531/15, who posts one of the top Marbling EPD’s of Lot 12: alive, active purebred bulls of .42. She is out of 2-36, a top Urbanosky Bulletproof 4-30 daughter SR 54/18 with an average calving interval of 345 days after 5 calves. 54/18 has 7 traits ranking in the top 30% or better including Top 1% Marbling and SC along with a Top 4% REA. 54/18’s ET calves are on the ground as babies. They are fantastic and are all involved with our ”Pick of ET Calves” lot in this sale. We are limited on donor space at Schuster Farms. This is our plan to flush these great cows and share in letting others have them. With that said we think SR 54/18 is going to be a “Super Donor” for the breed. She is an amazing embryo producer and we have over 6 calves out of her and many more coming. This past spring we flushed her with excellent success, then she immediately bred on the AI service to Chosen One 651/18 (20183702). She is palpated safe and due to calve 5/21/2020.

Briggs 152/6 is a show stopper kind of cow. The picture and video you see were taken when she was 11 years old. She is now 14 years of age and does not look much different. She is ultra-moderate and easy fleshing in her kind. 152/6 produced two herd bulls and has several daughters in the herd including Briggs 777 who is the Briggs “Elite” herd. At 11 years of age she had a tremendous 9 calf calving interval of 378 day average before she was put into an ET program. She is truly balanced in EPD’s across the board. These three sires were chosen for their stability and wide use in the breed. There have not been any of these matings transferred yet so you could be the first to have some on the ground. We think this is a very exciting set of matings with the fertility, moderation and longevity in this great donor combining with the exciting “curve bending” genetics from the sires.

FLUSH - Guaranteeing 6 IVF embryos. The procedure to be conducted by Trans Ova in College Station, TX at the buyer’s expense. SR 30/F3 is one of the most exciting females in modern day Santa Gertrudis. SR 30/F3 was the Lot 16: high selling $30,000 bred heifer in the 2019 Tried & True Sale. SR 30/F3 is an ET daughter of Harris SR 30/F3 257/4 “Cherokee Grand Canyon” and SR Arkoma 30/0. She is a maternal sister to the breed’s top A.I. sire SR Genesis 75/3 and a full sib to the high selling $46,500 1/2 interest selling herd sire SR Mpact 30/F2 owned by Vesper Ranch and Strait Ranch. SR 30/F3 EPD balance is extremely unique with her Top 25% BW that carries to a Top 1% YW, REA & SC along with a Top 2% Marbling. It is really hard to make “curve benders” (Low BW to High YW). With that said, if mated properly SR 30/F3 gives the buyer, with the use of this flush, the ability to produce multiple possibilities in “Breed Elite” genetics because of her unique EPD blend. NOTE: This will be the only flush to sell from SR 30F3 by Korban Cattle for at least 3 years.

Bred Heifer - Selling 100%. Wiley Ranch is retaining the option of one IVF flush guaranteeing 6 viable embryos at their cost if and when the owner flushes. Wiley Ranch 104/18 is one of the best heifers we have ever raised. She is out of our “Elite” $15,000 Lot 17: donor cow KR 36/15 who was the first KR 191/13 daughter to sell at public auction. This is the first WR 104/18 time female producing kings RDF Dinero & KR 191/13 genetics are combined and are being sold to our knowledge. She is sired by our exciting RDF Dinero 4088 son “Smoke & Ash” Dinero. 104/8 scanned like she is bred proving the numbers don’t lie. She scanned a 5.05 %IMF with a 1.14 REA/CWT. 104/18 ranks in the Top 10% for 6 EPD traits including Marbling & REA. We planned on keeping 104/18 until Richard talked us into selling her in Houston so we did something a little different in her mating. Because we are trying to make an influence in our herd with her dam KR 36/15 we decided to mate 104/18 to her maternal brother Wendt 9079 who is our young herd sire we purchased in the 2019 Wendt Sale. Wendt 9079 is sired by Wendt Ranch’s proven herd sire KR 1131/13 whose semen packages are selling in this sale as Lot 34. This is an exciting mating! Superior King Ranch genetics lined up in this package top & bottom.

IVF Flush - Selling right to (1) IVF procedure guaranteeing 5 embryos. Buyer is responsible for cost of procedure. The procedure will be conducted sometime in March 2020 or as soon as F16 is determined to be safe in calf. The procedure will be done at TransOva in College Station, TX. Hefte Ranch F16 is recognized as a breed outlier with her incredible EPD profile. Her 0.34 Marbling and her 0.28 REA EPD place her as one of the highest combined carcass trait EPD purebred females in the entire breed! Not only is she Top 1% Marb, REA and HCW, Hefte Ranch F16 also checks all the boxes for “Tried & True” performance and production. She had a WW ratio of 116% and a YW ratio of 114%. She scanned a 5.25% with a 10.29” REA. She conceived on her first AI breeding attempt. Deep bodied, structually correct female with an ideal udder. This incredible KR 921/15 daughter is out of a first calf heifer that combines the genetics of some of our top performing bulls, AJH 126/0 and Harco 1323. IVF Flush - Selling right to (1) IVF procedure guaranteeing 6 embryos. Buyer is responsible for cost of the procedure. Red Doc 5369 is ready to work in March or April for the buyer. Red Doc 5369 is probably the most talked about cow in the Santa Gertrudis breed. She was purchased here in Houston in 2018 for $32,000. Since that time she has already generated over $52,000 from just two progeny. 5369 is the #1 cow in the entire breed for Marbling by quite a little bit posting a wopping .55 EPD. She currently has 4 sons that lead the Young Trait Leader list for Marbling. Her calves are just now yearling age and they are some of the most impressive in their contemporary on phenotype. Red Doc 5369 is probably the most ‘breed changing” cow we have ever seen. If you need to get your numbers in-line then this flush is for you.

IVF Flush - Guaranteeing a minimum of 6 freezable embryos. Buyer is responsible for providing semen and all assumed cost of the IVF procedure and freezing. The seller will choose and deliver the female to the embryologist and embryo center. Lot 21: KR2/17 was “The Pick” of King Ranch’s replacement first calf heifers that sold for $52,000. Her KR2/17 balance of EPD’s will mate with a lot of tremendous bulls out there. KR2/17 weighs in as a second calver around 1200 lbs. With that said, she weaned her first calf at 738 lbs. This is now!! This the Santa Gertrudis future!! Cows that get bred every year, wean a calf that is 60% to 70% of their body weight. Along with that, they have an extremely desirable carcass. KR2/17 can be flushed to a host of bulls out there with her balance in EPD’s. She is Top 1% for Marbling and Top 4% for REA and doesn’t really give up anything on any other trait. Whoever gets this flush has the opportunity to share in the future of this great young cow.

IVF Flush - Guaranteeing a minimum of 8 freezable embryos. Buyer is responsible for providing semen and all assumed cost of the IVF procedure and freezing. The seller will choose and deliver the female to the embryologist and embryo center. C-P 017D7 turned heads in her time on the show road. She was from a flush of CVF 2022 x Harris 017 donor cow that generated over $35,000 in progeny. Very few Santa Gertrudis get the distinguished honor of being rewarded “World Champion” as she did in 2018. In her show career she won Grand Champion at the 2019 Ft. Worth Stock Show, 2018 State Fair of Texas and the Tulsa State Fair as well. In the 2018-2019 show season she was awarded the Senior High Point Female award as well. 017D7 did all this winning in showing but her pedigree is really built with performance cattle in mind. Her sire CVF 2022 is still the most prolific female producer in the breed with over 250 daughters in production. Her dam is the Harris 017 donor, that is a “drawing” of what a cow is supposed to look like. Guaranteeing 8 embryos so this should pay off well to anyone looking to improve phenotype and sustain performance by flushing this great cow. She should be ready to work IVF in mid to late May.

Pick of 35 head of ET calves. Schuster Farms is offering a pick of our embryo calf crop of the hottest genetics the breed has to offer right now. By sale time there should be 35 calves to choose from. These calves are matings from Schuster Farms’ purchased donors like the first three Catalyst 531/15 daughters ever offered at the 2018 Tried & True Sale from Strait Ranches. The ET calves that the buyer will have to choose from are all sired by our two herd sires KR Chosen One 651/18 and KR 921/15 “El Rey”. We were fortunate enough to have the opportunity (along with Quail Valley Farms and Harris Riverbend Farms) to purchase the first time ever pick of King Ranch’s entire bull calf crop (Chosen One 651/18 reg#20183702). These are Chosen One’s first calves and they are fantastic! KR 921/15 “El Rey” Reg#20154210 is a Trait Leader for Marbling. The Catalyst daughters donors that are the dams of ET calves offered fit a very special criteria for us that includes fertility, performance, phenotype and extremely balanced EPDs. The first donor SR 11/18 is the highest selling Catalyst daughter to date selling for $16,000. She is phenotypically super correct and moderate framed. SR 11/18 performed very well on her actual scan data boasting over a 5 %IMF and a 1.26 REA/CWT on grass pasture. The second donor T45(20175632) is another special donor out of Strait Ranch’s matriarch donor cow SR 837(reg#20153484) who has produced her fair share of elite Santa Gertrudis offspring. The last female is 54/18(reg#20180867). She is out of a top Urbanosky Bulletproof 4-30 daughter with an average calving interval of 345 days. All of these matings will be in the top percentile rankings in EPD’s especially in Marbling and REA. Many of them project over .3 EPD for Marbling already and most if all should be over .2 EPD. We are currently DNA testing them all and having them registered with SGBI. By sale time we should have several example EPD profiles to share.

Pick of ET calves born from September 1, 2019 to June 1, 2020. We are so excited about the ET calves that have have come in January and February and we are just getting started. When finished there should be 150+ Santa Gertrudis ET calves to choose from. A few example matings are Chosen One KR651/18 x Harris 82/4, SR65/3, Harris 1524. Harris 190E x Red Doc 5369, Ms Yancey 60/5. HARCO 1452 x Data Driven, Genises 75/3, El Rey 921/15. The calves born will be from a variety of our best proven donors. We sold 2 picks of our calves last year. One for $30,000 and the second pick for $22,000. Both walked away with “breed changing” donor prospects. Both parties are very happy. The example pedigree shown as an example for this lot happens to be one of the calves that the buyer will choose from. QVF 190E 5369G8 Reg# 20193317 happens to be the #1 Young Sire Trait Leader for Marbling with an incredible .50 EPD. Making him the first purebred bull to break .5. There are many more exciting ones to take a look at but this example shows how one could be guaranteed to own the breed’s very best.

Semen Packages - Selling 50 straws in 5 Packages x 10 of our number one herd sire KR1131/13. This will be the FINAL offering of KR 1131/13 semen. Moving forward, we will be using his semen for in herd use only! 1131/13 offers a lot to the beef industry! On our feed test for the last three years, his sons have blown the field away with their gain-ability. In addition his EPD’s back this bull up genomically. What’s so phenomenal about 1131/13 is his numbers continue to improve with each new run of EPD’s. The 2020 feed test evaluation will be complete by sale time, but through the half way point, four of his sons are leading the test hands down, with one averaging over 5.6lbs of gain per day. This just showcases his proven status within the breed. With regards to his daughters; they wean heavy and have outstanding numbers themselves. They reach maturity early, calve out as two year olds, breed back & are easy keepers. In 2018, we AI’ed him to first calf heifers and had no calving difficulties, as calves were born in the 65-75lb range. On top of all this, his offspring have great dispositions! In summary KR 1131/13 has proven his worth to the beef industry on two fronts: 1) Phenotypically he is sound with tremendous muscle, length/depth of body and style which he passes on to his sons and daughters. 2) 1131/13 backs up this great phenotype with above industry average EPD’s—5 traits in the top 3 percent(3 of these in the top 1 percent). YW - 1%, HCW - 1%, REA - 1%, SC - 3%, Marb - 3%, Milk - 15%, WW - 25%. His EPD accuracy ratings are some of the best in the breed. Top 1% in: Balanced Index, Cow/Calf Index and Terminal Index. There is no guessing about what this bull can do, he is always consistent, reliable and proven!!
