As a 2 year old we used 16B on some heifers with good results. Impressive as a yearling, he has matured into a powerful herd bull with excellent feet and disposition. He adds muscle and scrotal development and his progeny are very correct. His dam is a very consistent producer with a nice udder with small teats.
4A is a moderate framed herd bull who matured out to 2450 lbs on the Precision Ag Scales at Carnduff. We started out using him on heifers as a yearling. He proved to be an excellent calver, retained his flesh well and with minimum care developed into a very fancy two year old. He is a free moving bull who we have come to use more heavily as time goes on. His dam is a very moderate frame cow who consistently produces top quality progeny.

This good doing, easy fleshing bull was used lightly as a yearling but extensively as a 2 year old. You will see some real top bull calves by him in next years sale. We drew semen and the bull now works for Angus Ridge Farms, Jamie and Charlene Chapman, at Carlyle Sask.

WEIGHTS AND MEASURES AND HOW WE DEVELOP BULLS TO DELIVER A BETTER PRODUCT
We are in the Performance Program of the Canadian Angus Association and accordingly we weight our calves in the fall and weigh our bull calves again in the spring and also try to catch a weight on the heifers in the spring. These actual weights are submitted to the Association and are then adjusted. The weaning weights and yearling weights below each animal’s pedigree in the catalogue are the actual weights.

We do not creep feed prior to weaning. At weaning the calves are started on brown oats and a supplement from Cargill.
With an appreciation for longevity and soundness we do not push our bulls to post big yearling weights. From May 2, 2024 we ran the yearling bulls on grass. On Sept 20, 2024 we started feeding them brown oats and a Cargill suppliment. We like to see the bulls put on some condition prior to winter setting in. By sale day I think you will find the bulls to be in nice rig but not fat.

BREEDING INFORMATION ON BRED HEIFERS
June 11th to July 6th, 2024 AI’d heifers
July 8th exposed all heifers to Glen Islay Killarney 14K
September 12th preg checked heifers by ultrasound
Before sale day will re preg check a few heifers where previous examination was uncertain as to breeding date.
Taking all of the above in mind we noted the most probable pregnancy status of each female.
WEIGHTS AND MEASURES AND HOW WE DEVELOP HEIFERS
The weights below each heifer’s pedigree are the actual weights.
Actual weaning weight day Oct 14th, 2023
The heifers are not creep fed before weaning. At weaning the heifers were taken to Tim McMechan’s feedlot and put on a silage ration. They are well taken care of. The heifers run on grass all summer and fed hay as required in the fall as conditions dictate.
