Welcome to the Marywood Breeders Group Sale. Regrettably we lost in 2024 a special advisor/consultant to this sale, mineral supplier and most important a great friend in Jack McCoubrey. The Beef Guy, you are missed by the entire cattle industry.
This year’s sale has a special consignor joining us in Kern Simmentals. On offer will be Red & Black Purebreds and Kern Fullblood Fleckvieh influenced Simmental cattle that are low maintenance, from decades of selection for maternal traits and breeding soundness.
The Marywood Breeders Group part of the sale is Waydamar consigning 14 bred heifers and 5 young cows. We offering 3 Reds, 3 Blacks with white blazed face and 8 Black bred heifers developed in ranch conditions with natural thickness and performance. 4 of the yearling are bred to easy calving AI bulls Slider or Epic prior to the arrival of new calving ease bull KWA Bedrock 65L, out of the Ashworth 14X flush cow. Our Waydamar Langley 18L junior herdsire, a Walk-ThisWay son, was also used for his calving ease for the May to July, 2024 exposures. Richwood are consigning 4 exceptional heifer calves with one being red, 3 blacks and a second calver. These 6 young cows are presented in their working clothes, with 2 having bull calves heading to the bull test yard at home. Marywood and McRobdon are taking this year off to build up their numbers.
The Kern family are reducing their numbers significantly by selling all the 2023 bred females and their saleable young cows. It has been a real pleasure to work with Erich, Doris and Karina in going through their cowherd and putting this sale together. WAYDAMAR SIMMENTALS
Our family has been breeding Simmentals for 38 years when dad purchased our first Simmental Bull at the Royal in 1976, when I was at college. That was a good decision, which i did not agree with at the time, until my Hereford cow had her first half blood calf. We are extremely proud of our cattle we have on offer to the industry. They are designed with sustainable beef production in mind with selection based on temperament, performance evaluation, DNA and carcass ultrasound to data to drive EDP calculations to ensure our cattle are efficient and maintain themselves as a mature animal on forage only diet. The 14 heifers we have on offer we are very confident in future potential. If I was 15 years younger I would have likely kept all these girls, as I enjoy seeing the results of our breeding decisions culminate into production females. The 5 young cows we have on offer are second and third calvers that have performed well for us. We have decided to start calving in December and narrow our calving window, so we are selling these April-May calving females. McRobdon Simmentals sent 28J to us as a bull calf in 2022 that we performance tested developed for Dr. Bob. He was so impressive when he finished testing 28J, we decided to use him. We appreciate him being out of WS Epic E152, being half fleck, his extra length, performance and the bonus of his blaze white face. His progeny are equally impressive and stylish with lower birth weights and depth of body and the money strip blaze. We have been looking for a bull that has loads of maternal power and exception numbers. KWA Bedrock 65L fits both of these requirements being out of the KWA Rock 14X flush cow and arguably one of the best Simmental cows in Canada. His numbers are amazing, and hard to find in one animal. Bedrock is ranked in the top 19.5% of the breed for the average of all published EPDs by the Candian Simmental Association. We purchased Walk-This-Way semen with the intent of hoping for a bull calf that we could develop and use as a herdsire. 18L is that guy. When we put him on test he was moderate framed, but deep, continuing to develop and performed well on test. When we ultrasound him that sealed the deal, with excellent carcass numbers. The new Thermal Imaging testing we did during ultrasound scanning on our bulls, ranked high for feed efficiency and daily gain. New kid on the block we really like.
Breeding Simmental cattle since 1984, we seen a lot of changes over the years. It’s been our goal to produce the most efficient animal possible. It’s not how big they get, but how fast they get big. The Kern family have been breeding Simmentals for over 50 years and started with the importation of the Manta cow from Austria, that their entire herd goes back in past generations. They are extremely proud of their cattle and their ability to thrive without pampering or attention. These cattle look after themselves with performance and quality locked in with generations of selection, females based on milk and structure, starting with DEK Manta's Advantage and the bulls DEK Polled Quasar 18U (1986), DEK Dataman (1987), DEK Polled OLympus (1992) and DEK Polled Masterchef (2018). Due to a health situation that inhibits the physical abilities, this sale is the dispersal of 6 young cows with calves at side by Kingfield Harper, the first non-Kern bred bull to walk the Kern Farm. To show the power of the Kern females and the positive characteristics of Harper affectionally called "Chuck" because of his quiet nature, the entire group of 2023 bred heifers were bred to him. A top performance bull by DEK MasterChef 3F, the Grand Champion Fullblood Bull at the 2019 RAWF plus the highest weight of all breeds in his age group, weighing 2030 lbs. 3F is a homozygous polled and his dam, DEK 5D is also polled. Lennon profiles like his sire, well muscled and tremendous body length, with the milk genes of high butterfat of his granddam who is the oldest foundation female in our herd and still producing. We would expect Lennon to produce the same powerful females like the 3F daughters, with 2 in the sale with their offspring.
The Polled Galileo 33G is a non-diluter bull we have used and has done a great job for us. With significantly reducing our cowherd numbers and how closely related he is, makes this performance and high maternal bull available. He worked well for us and will do the same for you.
Terms: Payment of the sale price shall be made in cash, and animals shall not be released to the buyer until satisfactory settlement has been made.
Bids: the Auctioneer shall accept all bids, other than those considered to be irresponsible, an the bidder offering the highest bid shall be the buyer. By-bidding is prohibited except in the case of joint ownership when the purpose for the bidding is to re-apportion the owners’ shares and provided that the intention to so bid and the purpose thereof, is announced prior to all bidding for the animal.
Risks: Animals error noted in the catalogue will be announced from the Auctioneer’s stand. Any announcements from the Auctioneer’s stand will take precedence over any matter in the catalogue, all statements in the catalogue are accurate to the best of our knowledge. All sale are final.
Certificates: Each animal offered for sale as registered, must be registered in the Herd Book of the Association. If any animal is offered for sale as eligible for registration, the seller is responsible for obtaining the certificates of registry and application therefore must be made before the animal is sold. If the certificates of registry, together with the certificate of transfer are not provided to the buyer within 120 days following the date of sale, the buyer is entitled at his option to return the anal and to a refund of the purchase price.
