We would like to welcome you to the 1st Annual Prairie Power Gelbvieh Bull Sale! It is incredible how time flys by and the changes that come along with it, it is hard to fathom that we are here at bull sale season! When the opportunity came along to join three great families and 3 great programs and sell bulls together under one banner we jumped at the chance and were excited to pursue another venture together. Cowlick Ranch, Unger Land & Livestock and Foursquare Farms have worked together in the past, most recently with our 2nd Annual Destination Female Sale in the fall of 2024!

As a group we would all agree that the backbone of our herds start with the Females, it is what the Gelbvieh breed is best at! We all strive to keep the most functional set of females that push our expectations to the next level of where we want our herds to be and the breed to go. Bulls…we all try hard to raise the bar and keep moving forward in a similar way in the selection of our walking herd sires as well as sourcing out cross genetics and industry leading AI sires, to push our calf crop, herds and the breed forward!

Unger Land & Livestock have assembled a “best of the best” cow herd over the last several years and focus hard on outcross pedigrees built around Foundation Female cow families. Loren has represented the breed for 30+ years and is an advocate for Gelbvieh and the highest quality of cattle.

Cowlick Ranch and the Kary Family are no stranger to high quality cattle as they have raised cattle for as long as the have been on the farm. It has been in the last 7 years or so that Ryan and Miles have really started to add a focus to the Purebred herd! They have a keen eye for high performance cattle and have made a real push to compete with all the other breeds out there when it comes to performance. The Gelbvieh breed will thrive with passionate people like Ryan & Miles and their families to push to make the breed better, and they are doing just that!

Foursquare Farms has been raising Purebred Gelbvieh cattle for 25 years now this spring. They have worked hard to build their herd around the highest performance coupled with calving ease. You will find generations of calving ease cow families, as well as Foundational Females with Longevity and maternal excellence.

All though our cattle are all a bit different I feel that this sale offering has a bull for everyone. Whether pure power and performance, or calving ease heifer bulls or the curve benders that possess both calving ease and performance, there is a bull that will suit your needs. All the Bulls are DNA verified with 100K Genomic enhanced EPDs as well as Horn/Polled tested.

In the end we all work hard to provide you with a product that we are proud to stand behind. We look forward to the relationships that we build as we work along side a sector of agriculture that is filled with hard working outstanding individuals and families. It is exciting to see a time in the industry where the hard work and dedication is getting a payback that has seemed long overdue.

The bulls will be at Foursquare Farms as well as at Cowlick Ranch for you to view up until March 10th. After that date the bulls will be on display and able for you to view on sale day starting at 8 AM at the Olds Cow Palace in Olds, AB

Please Join us On March 13th for the 1st Annual Prairie Power Gelbvieh Bull Sale! Lunch will be served at NOON, Sale to start at 1 PM

EPD DEFINITIONS

Listed below are the definitions of Canadian Gelbvieh Association EPDs and the units in which they are published.

Maternal Traits

Calving Ease Direct (CE): Percent of unassisted births of a bull’s calves when he is used on heifers. A higher number is favorable, meaning better calving ease. This EPD can be vital to a rancher looking to decrease the amount of calves pulled in his herd.

Milk (Milk): The genetic ability of a sire’s daughters to produce milk expressed in pounds of weaning weight.

Growth Traits

Birth Weight (BW): Predicts the difference, in pounds, for birth weight of the calf.

Weaning Weight (WW): Predicts the difference, in pounds, for weaning weight (adjusted to age of dam and a standard 205 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to weaning.

Yearling Weight (YW): Predicts the expected difference, in pounds, for yearling weight (adjusted to a standard 365 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to yearling.

1 Lot

sire: dam: RWG HORSE POWER H311

Here’s your chance to purchase the 2024 Canadian Gelbvieh People’s Choice Bull Futurity Champion! Midnight is a bull we are very proud of and think very highly of. Hes a bull that checks so many boxes and we feel he keeps getting better as he matures! A soft made, big middled bull with lots of volume and tons of natural muscle and great hair. He carries himself on a good big foot, scoring almost perfect feet at the futurity. Another great factor that really excites us with this bull is the consistency throughout his pedigree. The RWG Horse Power cattle have quickly proven to be very good and sound cattle and you will see that in the brothers that follow this guy. CLR7M is also backed by one of our most proven young cows. DDN164H has given us 3 top quality calves and is looking to go 4 for 4; a very fertile cow being the first to calve this year. This guy could be used on many different types of cows, the guess work is out and its pretty well a guarantee his progeny will be flat out good. Buy with confidence in CLR Midnight 7M. Retaining 1/2 Semen interest

2 Lot

sire: dam:

We knew this bull was going to be a good one the day he hit the ground. His dam, ULL 126G, (50B daughter) is a full sister to our Flint 14F bull and a cow we admire in our herd. The Horse Power bull calves are impressive and you should see the heifer pen! WOW! 1M is wide based, big topped and has a nice hip structure. Solid and large footed, along with length, this bull should be on a few lists sale day. This sale is a great opportunity to put together a consistent group of Horse Power sons.

3 Lot

40M

Here’s another great herdsire prospect: a homozygous polled and red carrier bull out of two black parents. Macho is a well balanced, muscled and structured bull! CLR 40Ms dam JM17B, is a very productive Joe Third Addition daughter. This guy has what it takes to produce offspring that will help any program generate profit from what is sure to be a strong set of calves from this bull.

SLC OUTBACK 142X

RWG ALLSTAR D510

ULL FLINT 14F FIR RIVER FAYET 441Y

Mayday is a great black herdbull bull option! He’s soft made and has a nice refined skull shape, he also has that great hair that is a consistent trait on all his brothers in the sale. He’s also got a good set of EPDs. We were fortunate to purchase his dam HL 3J from the great folks at Hurlburt Livestock and she has produced 2 great bulls for us in her first 2 years. We have kept last year’s son and are using him as a herdbull in our program. Be sure to check out this Horsepower son layered with the great calving ease line of ULL Flint!

CRL MAMBA 75M

A bull from one of my favourite young up and coming cows, CLR Juliet 24J who is quickly proving herself. She’s a beautiful SLC Reba daughter and the cross with RWG Horse Power did not disappoint. Mamba is a very exciting bull option. If you like hair on your cattle take a look at this guy and his curls! He’s stout made with a nice deep middle and an awesome hip. Take a look at the great sires stacked through this pedigree; he’s sure to live up to those standards and be an elite bull himself. The daughters from CLR 75M would be beautiful front pasture quality females. He’s a bull that will help any cattle program move in a good direction.

CRL MAXIMUS 76M

Here is an extremely powerful RWG Horse Power son. This guy has been fun to watch grow. He shows the incredible growth that the Gelbvieh breed has to offer. He’s one of the youngest bulls in our pen but was one the heaviest at weaning and at yearling weight. CLR Maximus has incredible scrotal development for a yearling and will be sure to get out and settle some cows for you. He’s backed by one of the best Jace Cattle cow families as well. Prepare to be entertained by the calves from CLR Maximus 76M.

SLC MASTER PLAN 134N JM ZAPHIRE 75Z

A really cool moderate and refined Horse Power son in CLR 77M. A bull with a lot to offer, very correct in his design and one really has to admire the skull shape of this bull. Mocha is a bull that could find a roll on many kinds of cows and even be used on the right set of heifers. His Dam, JM 7G is a great cow backed by some great Gelbvieh genetics as she’s a daughter of the original SLC Masterplan 134N bul. If you like to make replacement females this is a bull worth checking out. He’s another black red carrier bull out of 2 black parents.

8 Lot

The only red Horse Power son we have in the group this year. A lighter colour bull may stand out in a pen of dark red bulls but he should also catch you eye because of how correct he is made! This young bull put together very well and comes with a great set of EPDs. His dam 78E is a very productive cow from the Jace Cattle and she’s got a beautiful udder and is a very functional cow. Moses is late February born calf but he fits right in with all the January born bulls in the pen.

9 Lot

An elite herdsire prospect in this bull, hes sired by, HL SLC Firestick 26J, a very exciting bull in the Gelbvieh breed. CLR Marshal 49M is a smooth made bull with good length of spine. He comes with lots of hair in the dark red color, he moves well and he’s got a nice front 1/3 and nice skull shape. 49M is definitely one I rank very high in the pen and have been very happy with how he has developed. His Dam, CLR 22B, is one of our top producing cows. She’s one of those consistent cows that is always bred early and will raise a good calf every year, and she once again did not disappoint us in her work with CLR49M.

SLC COLLATERAL 2Y

Another really good Firestick son offered here. This bull is a little more moderate in his frame size but has really great natural muscle to him and he’s got a really good hip to him. He’s athletic and moves well on a good foot. His dam is a powerful SLC collateral 2Y daughter, that continues to do her job every year.

Heres a high quality black balancer bull in Maverick 41M. His dam is a very productive cow for us. One will really appreciate the clean front of this bull and we love the volume and rib shape he offers as well. A very well put together bull from front to back that will be sure to sire some fancy eye appealing progeny. He’s a bull that will quickly catch your eye in the pen.

ULL MOSCATO 12M

We’ve been fortunate to use the elite Township bull on a few Gelbvieh females. The results speak for themselves. Moscato is an attractive, smooth made, clean fronted, bull with a nice set of EPD’S. His dam 6J was a purchase from Twin View Livestock and has impeccable feet and a near perfect udder. A maternal sister of 12M just sold to Hill Top Gelbvieh in 2024. Moscato should sire very desirable replacement females, as well as very marketable steers.

Merit 27M is a dark red, great-haired Township son with a herd bull presence about him already. He is stout and thick topped with volume similar to his Zake /71X dam. The combination of Angus and Gelbvieh genetics really clicked here and have real “Merit” for a breeding program.

14 Lot

sire: dam: RED U2 TOWNSHIP 17G JM FREEDA 26F

Township was the $130000 high selling angus bull at the 2020 U2 sale; a very elite herdsire in the angus world and his daughters are some of the top heifers in our replacement pen. We knew that we could make some incredible balancer cattle with a bull like this, and he did not disappoint. CLR 30M is a stout made herdsire prospect. He’s long made, easy fleshing, with great structure and great depth of rib. He’ll make steers that will pound down the scale but will also be able to make some really great replacement quality females.

A dark red, good footed, big middle, easy fleshing herd bull here with a great hair coat. An added bonus is this guy maybe has the best temperament in the bull pen; he’s always up for a scratch. An opportunity to flush 50B to Tip Hercules 99H, from Thackeray Land & Cattle, was an easy decision. He was thick, deep-sided and had tons of hair, with a much proven dam and a past futurity winner, in his pedigree. ULL 4M has many of the same qualities as his sire and moves out well on a dark foot, like a herd bull should. We have a full ET sister in the replacement pen and she’s pretty good – so good in fact, that Cowlick Ranch now owns half of her! Herc 4M should sire calves made for today’s industry.

PHG EMINENCE E02

Dunrite is a son of the PHG Just Do It bull, who was the high seller bull in Prairie Hills sale in 2022 and whose sons averaged $9,600 in 2024. Dunrite has extra bone to him, very good feet and a touch more frame size. We think this bull would be a good choice to use on a set of Angus based cows.

CRL DILLON 1M

Great bulls have to be backed by great dams. When we were given the chance to purchase a share of the elite SLC 17E cow we were very excited for that opportunity and knew she would help move our program in a good direction. Here’s a great hairy, long, smooth made, black balancer bull that is really clean fronted. This guy could be used on many types of cows and is very maternally strong, so if you want to make some replacement females, this guy will help with that. He will be a very impressive looking and mature herd bull.

Heres a great heifer bull option! Lots of calve ease stacked in this bull’s pedigree; a nice 73lb birth weight, raised by a beautiful SLC Viper 59G 1st calf heifer. His sire has worked well for us and Unger Land and Livestock, and he has consistently passed on that awesome curly hair to all his progeny. Mighty definitely has got that great hair in a nice dark red color. He moves well and has a nice dark foot. If you’re needing a bull for the heifer pen be sure to mark this guy down.

Easy Mode is a bull that has added calving ease but doesn’t sacrifice the performance value. He is dark red, small headed and clean-fronted. Sire Flint (14F) is a 50B son and has made his mark here by giving us several females in the herd. He is our go-to, calve ease sire. Easy Mode’s dam is a fancy made female purchased from the respected Lauron Angus program and has an impeccable udder. Use 15M and put your calving pen into… Easy Mode!

He has added length of spine and an ample set of pants in the back, with a square top and lots of scrotal! He is in the top end of pen for sure and is gaining a whopping 3.98 lbs/day.
