Welcome Cattlemen and women

On behalf of all of the consignors to the Lockhart Valley Bull sale, we’d like to welcome you to the 20th edition of our annual sale. We would like to thank last years bidders and successful buyers at our sale last spring. Your continued support is very much appreciated. I can still remember sitting in FeedRite at Rimbey 20 years ago, when three different breeds came together and decided to host their own sale. Not only put on the sale but manage the sale on their own. Times change and situations change. When we decided to go on our own it was scary but exciting. We are proud of our sale and love to see it evolve and get better every year. I don’t like saying “this is our best offering yet”, it seems like every breeder says the same thing, every year. I’d like to say that each year we all see improvements in each other’s programs and we are very proud of

the quality we are offering. I must say, the absolute and best thing about the sale is the people we’ve met and became good friends with. We visit with many of them regularly. We’ve met and became friends with breeders as well and cherish those friendships and the guidance they all offer. That being said, all of us want to extend an invitation to stop by the farm and view the bulls prior to sale day. I think you will be impressed by this offering. We’d love to tour you through the bull pens and answer any questions you may have. The coffee is on and we now have a new calving barn with a great coffee room/office to host you in. Our sale is on March 1,2025 at the farm. Hope to see you there for a meal, the sale and hospitality.

Thank you from the management and consignors of Lockhart Valley Simmentals annual bull sale.

Lockhart Valley Simmentals reserves the right to collect semen for in herd use on any bull in their sale offering.

Hello and welcome to our portion of the Lockhart Valley Simmentals Bull Sale. What we’ve really enjoyed about hosting the sale is not only meeting the buyers of our bulls but seeing the progress of each individual herd makes using some of our genetics. It’s an honor that you all continue to support and believe in our program. It’s tough trying to find new and better genetics for our program but we do strive to find the best. Lee, Terry Balazi, Kevin Marcinek, Hannah and now Cole have put lots of km’s on our truck looking for the perfect bull.

As with previous years, all contributors have weaned their respective bulls around the same time. All breeders in our little sale group have full herd health programs. The bulls are fed together shortly after weaning, which allows each program to be on equal footing. They will be semen checked and examined by Dr. Rick Katchuik from the Alberta Veterinary Center.

Lockhart Valley puts great pride in ensuring the bulls are fed to breed and fed to last. We’ve had customers come to us an tell us that they just got rid of a bull they purchased from us 8 or 9 years ago. The longest a bull lasted for a customer was 13 years. Longevity and conformation are important to us.

We look forward to seeing you on sale day and encourage you to stop by the farm prior to the sale and view the bulls. Coffee is always on. Please join us on March 1,2025 on the farm for our 20th annual sale. Lunch and refreshments are catered by Bob Ronnie Catering.

Thanks Lee, Tina, Hannah and Cole Lockhart Valley Simmentals

Deets

Horned Full Blood. This big boy is from Gwennie, one of Hannah’s cows. Big Tease is dark red, good hair and feet. He is a heavily muscled bull with excellent breeding. His sir SU Jenkins needs no introduction as a lot of our Full Blood cows can trace back to him. Gwennie herself is dark, dark red and is out of the well known bull, Crossroad Radium. We’ve found that Radium cows are very, very productive. Big Tease moves freely and walks with a purpose. He has a nice shaped skull that extends into a neck that makes him look like the masculine powerhouse he is. This neck attaches to his long spine and ends with a big ole hip. He’s quiet and easy to work with. We seriously considered holding Big Tease back and walking him ourselves, he’s that darn good. I’d love to have heifers sired by him walking in our herd. Cow Bull. Sire Verified and Diluter Free

LHVS SMACKDOWN 5M

Horned Full Blood. Another Jenkins bull calf here and is he a chunk. Hairy, dark red with big feet and very, very quiet. I think you could set off a bomb beside him and he’d just look and walk away. His dam is a beautiful Charles cow who just had her seventh calf, a cute little Silverlake Jackson bull. Smackdown is a bull who would work well on Black Angus cross cows. That’s just my opinion. Although it’s easy to imagine a pen full of black blaze steers out of him and a pen of beautiful replacement females. I just know they’d be attractive, productive cows. Cow Bull. Sire Verified and Diluter Free

3 LOT

Horned Full Blood. This little red bull is a direct son of LHVS Charles. We only have a few straws of Charles left and intend to flush a cow to him at some point down the road. His dam is quickly becoming one of my favorite cows. This is her second calf and she’s now two for two for her bull calves making the bull pen. LHVS 59J’s first bull, LHVS Hometown was sold to our good friends Terry Balazi and Brody Nikirk last spring. Promised Land is on the smaller side but that’s okay. He’s dark, dark red, big goggles and has that famous Charles hair. His mom did a fantastic job on him and he has only gotten better in the months following weaning. 59J weaned him off at 56% of her body weight. Anything over 50% is great in our books. Promised Land should calve easy and I bet his replacement females will be some of the best. Especially if they take after their grand-dam. Cow bull.

Sire Verified and Diluter Free

Horned Full Blood. 44M is a full brother to LHVS Karsyn 26K. Like his sibling, he’s dark red, tremendous hair coat, has lots of middle and like all Charles influenced bulls, great testicle development. His dam is a big, beautiful girl. She’s quickly becoming one of our best cows and continues to give us tremendous calves. Her maternal grand-dam came in dam from a cow we purchased from Darrell F. Maronda when he dispersed. Lots of greats in her pedigree including, Jenkins, Shawacres Jahari, Rogant and Western 36R. We’ve registered every calf from her, including the infamous “Trouble” who has a bull in this sale. Cow Bull. Sire Verified and Diluter Free.

Horned Full Blood. I know, I know. We named him Seven 7M. But in our defense, we’ve just always called him Seven and the name just seemed logical to us. So, to describe Seven all that comes to mind is holy cow is he a big boy. When he was a baby, I thought he’d be all legs and no middle but dang, was I wrong. He not only grew but he kept a big barrel as well. He’s an easy doing boy and likes a scratch or two. Every time I see him, I’m drawn to his feet. No, I don’t have a hoof fetish but I do admire an animal with big feet and boy does he have them. He strides out so smoothly and tracks perfectly. His back ankles don’t pop or roll the wrong way, he just has some of the best legs and feet I’ve ever seen on a bull. Unfortunately, his dam stifled herself and is now gone. But she was a quiet cow, who was so easy to handle and work with. Cow Bull. Sire Verified and Diluter Carrier

6 LOT

Horned Full Blood. Okay I must admit, this is one of my favorite bulls in the pen. He is blood red, hairy, excellent legs and feet. Ladies Man has a nice calm disposition. He should give his new owner heavily pigmented calves. I really like his dam, who has the nickname “Trouble”. She’s not really a bad cow, she just likes to go for a stroll in the spring and eat out of the replacement heifer’s bunk…because the grass or in this case the feed is better on the other side of the fence according to her. This is her second calf, her first a bull, LHVS Code Red, sold to Ed and Janice Bajema last spring. Trouble is a direct daughter from Charles and crossed up really well with NAC Battle Cry. Battle Cry is owned by Black Gold Simmentals. We’ve used him a little here and there. We really like the pigment he throws on to his calves. We have some daughters from him and they are moderate framed and dark red. Use Ladies Man with confidence, he’ll calve easy and give you awesome steers and incredible replacement females. Cow Bull. Sire Verified and Diluter Free.

LHVS AFTER PARTY 40M

Horned Full Blood. This is my favorite in the Full Blood pen. A standout from birth, After Party just keeps getting better and better. He offers length of body, impressive thickness and depth of rib. He’s quiet and easy to handle. Dark, dark red with big goggles, After Party is a favorite among visitors who’ve seen the pen. His dam is turning into one of our best cows. She’s sired by Charles. Her dam was a really good Double Bar D United cow. We’ve registered every calf from her. Battle Cry crossed really well on 25H. I’m confident he’ll throw those heavy weight steers and exceptional replacement females. After Party weaned off his dam at 940Lbs which translated into 61% of her body weight. Cow Bull. Sire Verified and Diluter Free.

Horned Full Blood. Velocity 21M goes back to a bull we sold Leedale Farming in the spring of 2023. We really like the pedigree of Velocity’s sire, with him being out of Charles and his dam being out of Crossroad Radium. We were very happy with the calves he left us and Leedale is happy with them as well. If you look closely at Karsyn’s pedigree,(his sire) you’ll see he is line bred SU Jenkins 6J. I’d say it worked really well. Velocity is moderate framed, good feet and hair. He’s easy to work with. Dark, dark red, so red

he’s almost black. This is Velocity’s dams second calf. She’s a smaller framed SBV 711F cow. 711F is a bull we used and boy did he clean up udders. Any of his daughters have high tight bags with beautifully spaced small teats. Cow Bull. Sire Verified and Diluter Free

Horned Full Blood. Far West is from a great old SU Jenkins cow. This year was her last year here as she wore herself completely out. 1D was a big cow. Lots of middle and thickness, just a typical Jenkins cow. She never did give us a heifer to keep. Far West is dark red, big goggles, lots of middle and travels along smoothly with big feet. He kind of gets overlooked in the bull pen as there’s flashier bulls with him. Don’t pass him over, study him and appreciate him for the individual he is. Far West will be an honest working bull that will sire great steers and excellent females. We don’t know what % of body weight 1D weaned him off at because we sold her mid-summer. You have to give Far West credit, he was weaned earlier than his pen mates and kept right up with them. Cow bull. Sire Verified and Diluter Carrier

LOT

Polled Full Blood. Bellringer really crossed up well with 70E. A very powerful bull for being polled. Mission Impossible inherited the Charles hair as well as the quiet temperament. 50M is a framer bull with lots of middle, long spined, he has a really nice polled head on him. He’s a handsome fellow. Chocolate brown in color. He travels freely on big feet. His dam just had her 7th calf, a cute little Silverlake Jackson heifer. 70E has been a really good cow for us. We’ve registered 5/6 calves from her. 50M will work great on Charolais cross cows or Hereford/Red Angus cross cows. Cow Bull. Sire Verified and Diluter Carrier.

LHVS TUNDRA 101L

Polled Full Blood. Man, oh man did Tundra’s mom do a good job on him. His momma was a first calving Jenkins daughter. It was a rough go for her because she put everything into her calf and literally none for herself. Let me tell you that little cow bred back for an early January calf this year, despite how thin she got. She lost so much weight but gained every bit of it back by fall. Tundra is a big boy. He’s a dark brown, with beautiful hair. Moves out freely and has good feet. By the time he hits breeding season, he should be in perfect condition to do his job. This bull’s momma is the definition of productive, as Tundra weaned off at 990lbs. That translated into 76% of her body weight. WOW!! You can’t get much better than that. Cow bull. Sire Verified and tested diluter free.

Polled Purebred. I really like this little bull. He kinda, gets looked over in the group of bulls he’s in, but he’s just as good as they are. Red Chester’s name suits him as he is a dark, dark red. He might be on the smaller frame size but he definitely is carrying all the muscle he’ll need. By the time June or July rolls around he’ll be just perfect for romancing your cows. Chester’s dam is a smaller framed, solid red cow sired by Captain Scream. She just had her fourth calf, another bull. Red Chester should calve easy and sire heavy weight steers and beautiful replacement females. Cow Bull. Sire Verified, Diluter Free and Heterozygous Polled

Dam of Lot 12

Polled Purebred. Western Hauler 36M is a really nice red blaze faced bull. Lots of meat on this stout youngster. Here again is a Crossroad Radium cow. LHVS 27G is a big girl, weighing in at 1720Lbs. She managed to wean 54% of her body weight. 27G is a really nice cow to work with. She’s deep, long and thick. Western Hauler is a big boy himself. Great disposition, hair and feet on him. He’s a favorite of mine as well. Travels smoothly. This boy would work well on Charolais cross or Red Angus cross cows. He should calve easy and sire those in demand red blaze faced steers. His heifers should make great, productive cows. Cow Bull.

Sire Verified and Diluter Free

15 LOT

Polled/scurred Purebred. Sometimes with a cow it’s a hit or miss with the bulls you breed her to. We could never figure out what bull works with her until MRL Red Whiskey. That mating clicked and Leedale Farming bought that big boy in 2023. The next year we hit the jackpot when we bred her to Captain Morgan, where she gave us another bull calf and in the spring of 2024, Russell Balzar from Leduc County purchased him. Whiskey Jack is a solid red Captain Morgan with outstanding epd’s. His yearling weigh is 34.3lbs higher than the breed average. Long and thick this big boy hits all the marks. He’s right on par for calving ease and birth weight. Good feet, Whiskey Jack moves freely. He’s very quiet and easy to work with. His dam just had her fourth bull calf in a row. Not only has she come into her own, she’s proven how fertile she is. Cow Bull. Sire Verified and Diluter Free

Polled Purebred. This is Lee’s favorite bull, from his favorite cow. I must say she is an impressive cow for a black one. Good Knight is a majestic individual. He is smooth in his build and should calve easily. He’s long, thick, good legs and feet on him. Every time I go into the bull pen, he catches my eye. His rate of evolving how he looks is impressive. His dam 7H is in my mind an ideally build cow. She’s moderate framed but at 1560lbs she has the body depth and width that some black Simmentals lack. She might be moderate in size but there’s a lot of punch to her. She weaned Good Knight off at 940lbs. That translated into 60% of her body weight. We have found that Killswitch cows are very, very productive. Being out of Captain Morgan is an added bonus in our books as we are now starting to calve his daughters out and they do look good. Cow bull. Sire Verified, Homo-black and Homozygous Polled

SWITCH BLADE 9M

Polled Purebred. Here’s another Captain Morgan bull. He’s a big boy as well that weaned off his dam at 900lbs, which translated into 64% of her body weight. Switch Blades dam is a what I’d consider a small framed cow but her sire is an American bred bull, Geff County O. Captain Morgan really worked well on her as Switch Blade has the style and frame to romance the ladies this spring. Solid black, a great hair coat, good temperament, he should make a great commercial bull for some lucky cowman. Bonus is that he’ll pole every cow he breeds. Cow Bull. Sire Verified, Red Carrier and Homozygous Polled

LHVS HIGH OCTANE 17M

Polled Purebred. Well Captain Morgan did it again with this big dude. Polled, solid black, long, lots of middle and a sweet disposition. If you look at his pedigree, you’ll notice a bull we used on our heifers a long time ago…LHVS Mr Lockhart 64A or as we used to call him the “dink”. He calved like a dream and his heifers turned out to be very nice little cows. High Octane’s dam for example weaned off 61% of her body weight. She weighed, 1520lbs and High Octane was 920Lbs. Now that’s what I call a productive cow. High Octane has a nice high calving ease but still maintains good yearling weight EPDs. I really like this bull. I’m not sure why we didn’t test for Homo Polled. He will poll some of his calves if he’s Hetero-polled. Cow Bull. Sire Verified and Diluter Free We didn’t test for Homo Polled

19 LOT

LHVS ROLLS ROYCE 23M

Polled Purebred. Here’s another example of how well LHVS 64A cows produce. If 17E is a Cadillac and Captain Morgan is a Lamborghini, when you cross those two you get a Rolls Royce. This young bull is big, with lots of middle and plenty of muscle. He has a quiet disposition and is easy to work with. 17E is a very productive cow as she calved twice in one year, once in January and again in December. Now that’s fertility. We’ve registered 4/6 calves from her. Cow Bull. Sire Verified, Red Carrier and Homozygous Polled

Octavio Barrera, Hannah & Rodrigo Barrera

Back in the spring of 2015, a little dark red bull calf was born to Lee’s favorite cow at the time LHVS 91X. She was a big girl, sired by SU Jenkins 6J. Right from the get go Lee hated the calf. He didn’t like his hair was the main reason why. He threatened to castrate Charles all the time, but I fought for him because unlike Lee I liked his wavy red hair. Even at weaning he threatened to castrate him but our good friend Glen Olson also told him “Don’t you dare castrate him”. As the winter went on Charles developed into a beautiful bull and Lee changed his tune. Charles had some frame to him but he also carried tremendous dept and thickness. With his wrap around goggles, he was an impressive looking bull. Our catalog went out and all of a sudden, we were getting calls from some big breeders on him, mainly Rendezvous Farm and Labatte Simmentals. Sale day came and when the hammer fell, Charles sold to Rendezvous Farm for an astounding $75,000 dollars. I almost fainted. It was only after the sale we found out that Charles had been the talk of Canada. After the sale we

Reference sire LHVS Charles 29C

jumped Charles and he gave us 300 straws of semen. We were quick to get him delivered to Manitoba, where Rendezvous was located. We even padlocked the stock trailer so no one would let him out when we stopped over night. Once we delivered him we held our breath and put the check in a saving account in case he didn’t work out for them. It was a relief when we heard he was breeding just fine. Two years later, we were blown away by the sons Rendezvous offered for sale. Charles went to the perfect farm as Rendezvous kept him exclusive to their herd. You could only get his genetics through the progeny they sold. We were fortunate enough to get some semen on him and used him exclusively in our herd on a smaller scale as well. We feel a tremendous amount of pride in raising Charles and in the fact that a single owner bull, with no semen sales, sold for Rendezvous over $1,000,000 through their regular bull sale to $1,090,000 through their dispersal sale this December. His progeny went all over Canada and including the Northern States

of U.S.A. Charles himself sold for $40,000 and he was 10 years old at the time. It would be interesting to find out if any other privately owned bull has done the same thing as Charles. Some people might think we’re tooting our horn about him, but as our friends and family know we don’t like to brag but, in this case, I think we are perfectly justified in blowing our own horn. Charles now resides in the famous Double Bar D herd in Saskatchewan. We want to wish Double Bar D good luck in your purchase of Charles. I’m going to leave you with a quote from Dave Maguet the owner of Charles. When I told him I was writing a brief note on Charles for our sale catalogue he was excited. These are his words about Charles.

“Unreal what Charles has done. I’ve told my bull customers the whole time a bull like Charles was once in a lifetime, the monumental impact he’s had & just the amount of $$ generated. Hell of a bull.”

Welcome to the Lockhart Valley Bull Sale! Another set of seasons have come and gone and we are back to that time of year where we make the lucrative decisions on what the future of our calf crops will look like! This year I am offering the largest number of bulls to date. With 2024 being yet another bull-heavy year I had a few to choose from but I didn’t expand my numbers significantly. Only the top of the pen is offered as usual. These bulls are at Lockhart Valley and housed alongside theirs from now until sale time. So if you have any questions please be in touch and if you would like to stop and see the bulls in person contact myself or one of the Robsons!

Sincere Thank You to all my repeat, new and future customers. I so greatly appreciate the support I have gained in this business since starting out! With markets trading as high as ever, it is nice to see the ranching lifestyle we all love living, being able to stay afloat while everything else is also at all time highs. My little registered herd still runs alongside my dad and I’s commercials cowherd. Therefore these are ranch raised bulls that will go out and work for you. They are not spoiled, pampered, princesses. I myself eat, breathe and sleep cattle. My world revolves around them and they are my way of life. I envision each and every calf before they are born. Most even before they are conceived… Now whether or not that “vision” comes to life is another story... But lots of times they do come close! Each slippery leg lift on a newborn calf that results in staring down at a sac of balls, is an udder disappointment… (haha) Each breeding selection I make, is with a potential heifer calf in mind. Maybe this is something I shouldn’t say in my bull sale speech, but it’s the truth and with that being said, my bulls are and always will be very maternal focused. My life long friend and mentor, Donna McMurtry told me at a very young age. It takes an excellent cow to make an excellent bull. Ain’t that the truth! But it doesn’t only take an excellent cow to make an excellent bull. It takes an excellent cow to raise an excellent, profitable, healthy, performing calf, period! This is why I focus so hard on the females. The heifer calves born each year are the future of the herd, the business, the livelihood. The herd bulls you use are still very crucial, as they are “half the calf crop.” They influence a lot more calves than one particular cow. But you can breed the best bull to any old cow and if that cow can’t raise that calf to amount to anything, then his influence isn’t as significant. My point being the maternal side to the beef industry matters. It is a leading focus in this program anyway. If you like heifers, like me, then consider a Cow Boss bull!

Maclin leads the Finnley 102F sons. He has had a plump rump since a young calf and I have always admired his muscle expression. He cooked a few extra days in his recip dam to gain a bit more birth weight but he was born with ease and both him and his flushmate brother (71M) were extremely lively calves that were up and sucking before I could even get them into the barn! Please watch the video of this bull as I do not feel this picture does him justice. He’ll sire steer calves that will get you noticed, but being backed by a great momma cow, this bull could be an asset to your program if you retain heifers! Non-Diluter

21 LOT

102F, the dam to this bull as well as lots 20 & 22 is s a larger frame cow with a 10/10 udder. I expect all 3 of her sons to be udder improvers. Motown as well as Graffiti have shrunken teat size for me in experience. Marce himself has a little more frame, is the soft made type, smooth built, great hair coat and has a super quiet disposition. Non-Diluter

Milo is the natural calf from my donor cow and he is very much a combination of his sire and dam. Virginia Graffiti will be coming on his 6th breeding season and is still sound and going strong. Milo is very dark red, has good stature, thickness and is damn quiet! Maternal brother sold to Greg Cymbaluk two years back. Non-Diluter

Moe is a mellow fellow. He has stature, thickness, hair and again backed by a cow that ranks high around here. She has earned her keep bringing home a good calf each and every year. Her bred heifer is a female that I think is definitely donor worthy! Also, has a son working for Nick Lublinkhof. Moe is just a very honest bull, that you will be happy with! Non-Diluter

ANNA 22W VIRGINIA MARQUEE 423D VIRGINIA GRAND SLAM 99G

DEJA 99D

Maizen is off a first calving, off age heifer. Jessie is a young cow that I have high hopes for! She is a picture of a female. Feminine, tidy udder, quiet and good feet. A moderate birth weight on this fella. He will work well on young cows. He is a soggy guy with lots of rib and middle, which you can see he showcased while on the cow as well. Good muscling all around and is just another very maternal oriented bull altogether. Non-Diluter.

Motown is off a doll of a cow. She has the sweetest disposition and I’d also give her udder a 10/10. This bull has a large foot, will cover some ground and would sire a nice set of heifer calves, no doubt. Non-Diluter

He is hairy, deep, soggy and where I really appreciate him the most is the width he possesses when admiring him from behind. I calved a full sister here this January and she was a fantastic first time mom who exemplifies tremendous rib shape, good feet and lots of milk. LOT

ZALENKA

Maroon is the result of a flush purchased on a very productive cow, Virginia Zalenka. She is a model type cow that has raised some top notch offspring for Langer Fleckvieh over the years. Given the chance to acquire a flush on her, I didn’t let it pass me by! Being an embryo, his angus recip dam had him at 85 pounds but I would like to point out that I think 100 pound calves could be attainable given his pedigree. That aside, 25M has a small head, clean front end, length and will absolutely calve easily. I am just recommending he be used on cows. Langer’s had natural calves from this same mating, females specifically and they had beautiful udders. Please note, if you own black cows, this bull does carry the Diluter gene.

Please feel free to contact us any time to discuss any questions you may have regarding our bulls on offer.

Good luck with your 2025 calving season and we hope to see you at the sale!

Full ET Brothers

I have said it before, and I will say it again, purchasing WLB 449E from the WLB dispersal was the best decision we have made, and has been a real pivotal move for our herd. We knew immediately when we laid eyes on her in Manitoba that she would be a donor cow we could build a herd around. We patiently waited to find the perfect bull for her first flush, when I came across Night Shift, I knew we needed to get in on the ground floor as he would complement Rita perfectly. The resulting ET calves from this flush have been nothing short of impressive, and these two bulls are a testament to that. Huge ribbed, broad based, square hipped with overall boldness throughout their design. They can get out on the move with ease, on a large solid black foot that is built to last. We sold a full sister to these bulls in the World Simmental sale this past summer, for $20,000 to Junction Simmentals. Rita has now surpassed $70,000 in earnings off of only 5 calves sold thus far. These brothers are impressive on paper & in the flesh and are ready to go be pivotal herd bulls that should solidify quick ROI for their new owners.

SILVERTOP MATRIX 89M

Homo Polled & Homo Black. We utilized an Angus bull from the Westway program to use on our heifers as a bit of a calving ease experiment, and after watching this bull develop, we are happy with the results! In our eyes, the SimAngus cross is a never miss, the two breeds compliment each other well and the return at the market is a premium. 89M will grab your attention with his sheer length and overall mass. On the Simmental side, his dam was a first calver, who weaned him off at the very top of the pen, pushing down the scale at an actual weight of 920lbs after starting off at only 88lbs. On the Angus side, you’ll see the great SAV Renovation, who has done wonders for the Angus breed in terms of siring calves who are phenotypically impressive & sound structured.

31 LOT

Homo Polled & Homo Black. 73M has been an easy favourite since day one. He is a typical Mandate, extremely well balanced & docile. Big time calving ease pedigree going back to Proclamation & LHVS 64A, along with EPDs ranking him in the top 20% of the breed for CE and top 10% for BWT. Great haircoat, small head & advanced testicle development are a few more admirable traits this bull carries. His dam is a moderate framed cow, that is heavy milking while maintaining a tidy udder. Any way we cross Mandate seems to be a success and 73M is no exception, he is full of consistency you can rely on.

SILVERTOP MAYDAY 67M

Homo Polled. 67M is a bull that was always one of the first to be picked out on pasture tours this summer due to his explosive muscling, rib shape & wide made structure. Not to mention, the money strip that everyone loves. His dam is a dark red, blaze face cow that is an easy favourite, with her picture perfect udder and milking capabilities. She just calved again this year, and finally gave us a black heifer with her signature blaze face that she stamps on all her calves, so needless to say that heifer calf will be retained in our herd. 67M will add performance & style to his calves, bringing a quick and easy return on investment.

Homo Polled & Homo Black. 17M is an extremely eye-catching bull off of a really impressive female we bought out Friday Night Lights a few years ago from the great McIntosh program. She is as docile as one could make, with a beautiful udder and extremely well structured foot. Luckily, she has given us all females thus far, with

one being purchased back by McIntosh’s. 17M was her first crack at raising a bull and we sure are pleased with the results, as he ranks in the top 15% of the breed for WWT, top 10% for YWT and top 4% for CW. Thick haired, square hipped, with a strong black foot and a small head that boasts the perfect ‘money strip’, he checks all the boxes to sire calves that will bring a premium.

SILVERTOP MADOX 6M

Homo Polled, Red Carrier. 6M goes back to our moderate, yet mighty - Panda cow. She has earned a reputation of having ‘magic milk’ as come the first week of July, her calf is always bigger than her, every single year. Panda is a 2013 model and has had a calf every single year, always in her first cycle. Crossing Panda with Mandate, even furthered the maternal greatness, being that he is backed by the famous Flirt cow family that has been pivotal for the Simmental breed. 6M’s moderate frame packs a punch, with a great spring of rib and arguably one of the best hipped bulls in the offering. 6M also has a fancy white dash on his forehead that will add some chrome to his calves. If you want to build a productive replacement female pen, 6M is the one for the job.

SIMMENTAL/SIMMENTAL

SILVERTOP MOOSE 39M

Homo Polled, Homo Black. 39M is a purebred Simmental bull, but only half papered as his dam was never registered. Being that we run a purebred herd, the fact that we keep a commercial cow around must have a good reason behind it, and in this scenario it sure does. This cow is as moderate as they come, but yet consistently raises monster calves that are always near the top of the pen at weaning. This year, she weaned 39M off at 76% of her body weight at the beginning of September. 39M’s full brother was our high selling bull a few years back, purchased by Alan Goddard. You will really appreciate this bull when you see him out on the move, and analyze his structure. Long spined, lots of natural muscle with a nice smooth shoulder, invest with confidence.

Welcome to the 2025 Lockhart Valley Bull Sale! I’d like to give a huge thanks to the Robson family for inviting me to be in the sale again this year. I’m super happy with my offering of Black Angus bulls and giving me the opportunity to add more variation to the sale. This is my second offering of bulls to sell. I’d like to thank my buyers from last year Scarlett Livestock Ltd. and Kim Lubbers for supporting my program in my inaugural sale.

My bulls were weaned early October and they have been housed and fed with the Lockhart bulls since then. These bulls did not see any creep feed and they show what my cows are capable of. This summer was a tough one with a slight lack of pasture hence the lower weaning weights on the bulls, but they really put the jets on once they were started on feed. This group of bulls is a super tight group, they were all born within ten days of one another. They are sired by two of our walking herd sires. My cattle are my pride and joy and I’m excited to see them go out and work at other people’s farms. I’ve been very fortunate to have been able to expand my herd the past few years and I’m super thrilled about this opportunity. My purebred herd runs right in the mix with our farms commercial herd and they don’t get special treatment, they have to put in the work.

My cattle speak for themselves in the pen but they are made to be functionable cattle that will go out and perform, one of my key thoughts when raising

cattle is if I wouldn’t use them in my herd I wouldn’t sell them to others, so be assured these are top quality animals that will go out and do the work.

I look forward to seeing you all at the sale March 1, and feel free to call me to discuss my offering.

Opal Maddox 7M is another phenomenal son out of HF Full House 16J, he’s a bull that catches your eye and says look at me I’m a herd sire prospect. Maddox is a cow bull with power and style, he also boasts a quiet attitude and is a very nonchalant bull who will go out and go to work. Maddox is a bull that checks all the boxes, don’t miss him on sale day! His dam is a beautiful SAV International 2020 daughter and she has done nothing but perform for me, sadly Maddox is her last calf she will raise for me, so keep in mind he’s a good one! The International Showman cross is one of the best mixes of pedigrees I have raised, and I can say this bull has the potential to really make an impact within a purebred or commercial herd wherever he may end up.

Opal Moonshine 5M is a full brother to Opal Lord Lager 1L, my lead off bull from last year’s sale, and I must say he truly is a spitting image of Lager. Moonshine is a wicked bull and although he might not be weighing up quite as heavy as Lager did he’s just as much bull, Moonshine has a gentle demeanor coupled with some power added on, he’ll be sure to make some beautiful heifers to keep and a good group of feeder steers. Moonshine has done exceptionally well on feed since weaning in a 36 day window he had an ADG of 4.5 pounds a day. He’s out of a Scheifelbein Showman son and Moonshine is a chip off the ol’ block. I’d recommend Moonshine to be used on cows.

Opal Major 11M is a powerhouse bull, out of a strong, big bodied cow. Major is a maternal brother to Opal Gunfight 4L. This is the third and final HF Full House son in my offering and he will also be the last Showman son on offer from my program. These bulls are some of the best animals I have raised, and I cannot say more positive things about these sons. This bull has always done well but after weaning once he was on feed he had an ADG of 3.9 pounds a day which is something desirable for those feeder calves sired by him. Major is a power bull so he will add frame and body to his calves, if you are looking to add some performance and size to your herd look no further than Major. I’d definitely recommend Major to be used on cows.

LOT

Opal Payoff 4M is the only bull from the HF Payoff 81K sire group, but he is a good one, his pedigree is calving ease through and through so that being said he is going to mature into a more moderate framed bull with a bit less power than the Showman sons. This bulls paternal grandsire is HF Alcatraz 60F which is a bull who needs no introduction in the angus world, our Alcatraz son HF Payoff 81K is a more moderate framed but his calves around my operation are a super consistent group overall, exhibiting style and quality. Payoff 4M is out of a beautiful Ellingson Three Rivers first calver and she did a really good job raising this bull. I would say that Payoff 4M can be used on heifers and he’s a bull that’d help you sleep at night.

Bull Feed

All of the bulls are weaned early in fall. This year it was the third week in August. Due to circumstances the bulls were not all together until about mid-September. But you’d never know the difference. Levi, Jenna and Emily’s bull have done unbelievably well with regards to their growth in the pens. We’ve separated the reds and blacks from the fullbloods as it makes looking at them easier. Like previous years, Lee has worked with Kevin from Wetaskiwin Co-op and came up with a balance ration. This ration consists of cereal silage, 2nd cut hay and oats/corn. This is a TMR mix and includes mineral from Wetaskiwin Co-op. The bulls are bedded every second day except when its cold, then it’s every day. We house the bulls in big pens and have an oiler and scratcher in each pen. We want the bulls to go out, do their job and last for their new owner. A bull is no good if he’s snoozing under a tree when cows are in heat. We target for 3-3.5lbs of gain a day. Anything more is a waste. If you have any questions about their ration, please give Lee a call.
