Well another year has come and gone and here we are again getting ready for another bull sale, where does the time go. This past year has been a more positive outlook for the cattle market, with much need moisture and calf prices on the upward swing, we think most breeders are feeling a bit more relief.

Again it is our pleasure to welcome everyone to our annual sale. We would like to thank everyone that supported the new format to our sale last year, DLMS Farm Gate Timed Auction, it was a huge success. A big shout out to all our valued customers new and old, your support for our program does not go unnoticed.

Again this year we called really hard from all our bulls to have only the best for the sale. We feel we have a good strong set of Red & Black yearling bulls on offer and we feel very confident that they will work in any program. We work hard to have our highest quality of herd sire prospects available for you. The bulls are developed slowly to maximize their longevity. They are all hand feed 12lbs of bull ration and free choice grass/ hay mix.

We maintain a high standard for our female program as well, and expect them to raise half their body weight in their progeny. We are always working to provide our customers cattle that are

very functional in any conditions and go out and work hard. The sires to these yearling bulls, are a very uniform group of herd sires that have tremendous amount of body structure and natural muscle mass.

Again this year we are selling online with DLMS March 4th & 5th. All the information for the sale and how to get on and bid is offered in the catalog. Feel free to call us or DLMS if you are needing any assistance.

The bulls will be available for viewing any time before the sale, just give us a call and we will be happy to walk through the bulls with you, as well as show you their dams. For more info on any of the bulls don’t hesitate to call.

UNDERSTANDING EPD’S

CALVING EASE DIRECT (CE)

Percent of unassisted births of a bull’s calves when he is used on heifers. A higher number is favorable, meaning better calving ease. This EPD can be vital to a rancher looking to decrease the amount of calves pulled in his herd.

BIRTH WEIGHT (BW)

Predicts the difference, in pounds, for birth weight of the calf.

WEANING WEIGHT (WW)

Predicts the difference, in pounds, for weaning weight (adjusted to age of dam and a standard 205 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to weaning.

YEARLING WEIGHT (YW)

Predicts the expected difference, in pounds, for yearling weight (adjusted to a standard 365 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to yearling.

MILK (MILK)

The genetic ability of a sire’s daughters to produce milk expressed in pounds of weaning weight.

CALVING EASE MATERNAL (CEM)

Represented as percent of unassisted births in a sire’s first-calving daughters. A higher number represents more favorable calving ease. This EPD is important to a rancher’s bottom line because it predicts which animals pro-duce daughters with a genetic predisposition to calve unassisted as heifers.

STAYABILITY (ST)

Predicts the genetic difference, in terms of percent probability, that a bull’s daughters will stay productive within a herd to at least six year of age. The stayability EPD is one of the best measures currently available to compare a bull’s abil-ity to produce females with reproductive longevity.

YIELD GRADE (YG)

Differences in yield grade score, which is a predictor of percent retail product. Smaller values suggest that progeny will have a better lean to fat ratio.

CARCASS WEIGHT (CW)

Differences in pounds of hot carcass weight, adjusted to an industry standard age endpoint.

RIBEYE AREA (REA)

Differences in ribeye area in inches between the 12th and 13th rib. Greater ribeye areas are preferable.

MARBLING (MB)

Predicts the differences in the degree of marbling within the ribeye as expressed in marbling score units. Greater marbling numbers are preferable and are an indicator of higher carcass quality grades.

FAT (FAT)

Differences for fat thickness, in inches, for a carcass over the 12th rib, smaller numbers of fat thickness are preferable as excess fat can be detrimental to yield grade.

WHAT IS RACEHORSE STYLE SALE CLOSE?

Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding.

HOW WILL EXTENDED BIDDING WORK?

When we get to the close out end time the clock for close extends with any bid placed with less than 5 min on the clock. This type of extended bidding turns the end time to more of a soft time. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and give all bidders the same time to make a decision. Always follow the clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.
