spread by the Batumi Botanical Garden management ii As noted, the differentiated tariff policy became a subject of sharp discussions among Batumi residents. A part of the society considered differentiated prices for local residents and foreign residents as discriminating. The Georgian Public Defender has also passed due recommendations and appraised the differentiated prices as discriminating. In due time, the Batumi Botanical Garden management expressed readiness to follow the Georgian public defender’s recommendations and public opinion and to apply to Batumi City Hall for introducing a new tariff policy. Based on the Georgian Public Defender’s Recommendations and the December 15, 2015 written consent of Batumi Mayor, on January 1, 2016 the Batumi Botanical Garden management introduced a unified tariff of 8 GEL and removed the previous differentiated tariff policy.

ARCHIL KHABADZE: GOVERNMENT WILL MAKE SOCIETY AN AUTHOR OF BATUMI BOULEVARD DEVELOPMENT CONCEPT The Ajara Government decision on the Batumi Boulevard development concept.
meeting today too to determine the future plans in behalf of Batumi residents. Namely, the Ajara government chairman offers the initiative group to determine and introduce their members in the special commission for drawing up Boulevard development concept.
It is important that the involvement of representatives of Batumi residents in the commission works signifies the concept will be revised in the desirable direction, because they will create a majority in the commission.
T
he Ajara Government Chairman Archil Khabadze jointly with Batumi Mayor has met with members of the Defend Batumi Boulevard initiative group and Batumi residents. the meeting is to ensure direct communication with representatives of our society to discuss the problems around the ongoing works in the Batumi boulevard and the future concept development issues, Archil Khabadze noted at the meeting.
„I have stated from the very beginning
that position of our society concerning the planned changes in the Boulevard is of crucial importance for our government and we are interested to take into account the public opinion. Therefore, we have already met with Batumi residents, who are members of the Defend Boulevard initiative group. We are conducting a similar
To eradicate any fears and doubts, the new commission will try to discuss the submitted versions at the very first meeting and add changes by adopting a special act. Moreover, the new members of the commission will be entitled to monitor the adopted concept fulfillment to ensure full public engagement and transparency. Based on the government decision, our society will become an author of the Batumi Boulevard development concept and Batumi residents will constitute a majority in the workgroup for the Batumi Development concept. This is a unique case for our city. At the very first meeting of the new members of the commission, changes will be made to the concept and three alleys will be maintained. Before the adoption of the final version of the concept, due acts will be passed to suspend issuing all licenses. And the ongoing works will be finished without damaging the 2016 summer tourism season. By this decision, the government takes into account the public opinion and ensures full transparency and accountability”, Khabadze said. The Ajara Government chairman offers the initiative group to choose and introduce their members in the special commission for composing the Batumi boulevard development concept. “It is important that representatives of Batumi residents enter the commission and this signifies the concept will be revised to the desirable directions, because they will constitute a majority in the commission. Consequently, if the commission determines
that three alleys must be maintained in the Batumi Boulevard as part of the concept, the due decision will be taken. Before the adoption of the final version of the concept, corresponding acts will suspend issuing all licenses. The ongoing works will be finished without damaging the 2016 summer tourism season. If the commission concludes that there is a legal possibility of changing these works and immediately restoring the initial situation, in this case due steps will be also taken.
„As to the return of Boulevard to Batumi City Hall, the Batumi City Hall has determined the Boulevard protection and arrangement expenditures in the 2016 budget. Consequently, at this stage this issue is inappropriate. If the 2017 municipal budget will include similar amounts in the current and capital expenditures, the Boulevard may be returned to the city hall management again. We frequently hear questions whether the ongoing works have been licensed. The cultural heritage agency had obtained consent from the city hall for conducting construction works (including arrangement of drills, replacement of curbstones and plates and similar works). As to the quantity of alleys and other issues, that are related to the authenticity and appearance of the monument, the cultural heritage agency represents an authorized body in this issue and it needs no consent from any other body in this part. We believe similar approaches, sometimes even revision of the decisions and following the public opinion are advanced steps that makes us different from the previous Authorities. We really take into account the public opinion and ensure transparency and accountability of our government”, Khabadze said.
BATUMI BOULEVARD DEVELOPMENT CONCEPT AND PUBLIC PROTESTS
B
atumi Boulevard Development Concept and Public Protests The Batumi historical boulevard will take a new breath. The Ajara government is working on the 130-year boulevard development concept to considerably beautify the current appearance of the territory. New colors, more greened areas and snug recreation zone instead of grey asphalt – the concept was developed by Dreamland Oasis company. The Ajara government’s draft concept has caused public discontent. Part of Batumi residents think that it is inadmissible to change the appearance of the Batumi Boulevard that possesses the status of a cultural heritage monument. The NGO sector and part of the Batumi residents disagree with the Ajara government plan that calls for making considerable changes to the central part of the Boulevard. The third sector appraises this plan as an attempt for making rude changes to the appearance of the cultural heritage monument. The company representatives noted that the project calls for transforming the three-line alley into two-line alley, while the schematic authenticity of the Boulevard will not change. Namely, landscape elements will replace the 5 200 square meter section in the alley midline and the green cover space will increase by 120% in the boulevard. Under the concept, the 1600-meter alley will be divided into various thematic recreation spaces that will be connected to each other by pathways. The solar clock square, a square of planets, the Japanese garden, the so-called fire zone, labyrinth of bay-trees and other infrastructure will be arranged for vacationers of various age catego-
ries. Several lightly-framed cafes adjusted to the local landscape will be also located there. “One of the main missions of the Batumi Boulevard new concept is to distribute tourist flows to various sections’, Giorgi Jamarjashvili, one of the authors of the project, noted. The research that was conducted in the concept development process has outlined that in the tourism season the total workload of all three lines is 12 times lower compared to the beach promenade workload, despite the fact the width of these alleys are twice longer compared to the promenade. It should be also noted that the 700-meter section from the dolphinarium to Sheraton hotel is unemployed throughout the year. The employment of the central line of the Boulevard will alleviate the distribution of tourist flows and increase the working capacity, Jamarjashvili noted. The first working version of the Batumi boulevard concept was publicly introduced. “Everybody’s opinion is very important for us, especially the position of Batumi residents. Therefore, our company has created a video clip to enable everybody to better perceive the concept”, the Dreamland manager general Nikoloz Geguchadze said. “The new concept for the boulevard development will increase the loyalty of tourists and the Batumi Boulevard will become a place, where every Batumi residents will be able to reach selfdiscovery”. The Ajara Finance and Economy Ministry declared that, for the first time in its history, the boulevard will have a development plan. The new document calls for determining the future development perspectives, namely for creating a joint topographic plan for dividing the territory
into zones and strategic planning of each zone. “We should transform Batumi and Batumi Boulevard into an attractive yearlong tourism destination for foreign and domestic tourists. And this concept implies similar development of the Batumi Boulevard. As a result, we will have a revived, renovated and very interesting boulevard that will become the best recreation place for visitors”, David Baladze said. Public discussions and hearings will be held at all stages of working on boulevard development concept. In this format all interested bodies will be able to introduce their recommendations, remarks, opinions. The submission of Batumi Boulevard topographic plan and the Batumi Boulevard concept development document will be finished in spring 2016.

Free Zones are planned for boosting international business through providing 100% ownership to expatriates. In UAE ,free zones are either attached to ports or industry specific. The main idea of establishing free zones in the UAE was for them to serve as a central business hub for companies willing to conduct business with the outer word, not specifically in the UAE. Therefore ,UAE free zone companies are intended to operate within the corresponding free zone as hub for the worldwide operations and are not licensed to operate within the rest of the UAE. As a result most of the free zone companies during the initial days were engaged in import and re -export activities. Each free zone in UAE has its own set of laws. However, most of the businesses in the Free Zones fall under the following broad categories based on their business activities. • Branch of a foreign company or a branch of an offshore company • Free zone Establishment /Company( FZE/ FZC/FZ LLC) • FZE or FZC are limited liability entities owned by an individual or corporate entity. EXPERTS REACT ON INTRODUCTION OF NEW PLAYER ON GEORGIA’S PHARMACEUTICAL MARKET
H
umanity Georgia company has entered the Georgian pharmaceutical market. According to the business registry, the company was registered in May 2015. Humanity Georgia will introduce a wide option of medications to the pharmaceutical market in the near future. Quality of the company-manufactured medications is approved by the manufacturer’s EU GMP Certificate. The first set of drugs will be represented by frequently-used drugs at the end of December 2015. Specialists, doctors and even politicians positively appraise that a new company will operate on the Georgian pharmaceutical market. The fact will boost competition on the domestic market and medications will become more affordable. Introduction of Generics on Georgia’s pharmaceutical market which was initiated by the Ministry of Healthcare is also evaluated positively. Generics will encourage the decrease on prices of drugs. The vast majority of people believe that Generics will regulate prices of drugs on the market. Georgian otolaryngologist Raul Khinkiladze positively assesses appearance of Humanity-Georgia and thinks it will increase the competitiveness, which is highly important.
welcome appearance of Humanity-Georgia on Georgia’s pharmaceutical market, drugs need to be high quality. As for the Generics I use them in my ordinary practice, the most vital thing is the result that I receive from drug not the origin of it. Every drug needs to be approved by the manufacturer’s Certificate. Family doctor Tea Pavliashvili responded to the inevitability of expanding Generic drug segment
on Georgia’s pharmaceutical market and made some comments on new pharmaceutical company which recently entered Georgia: „Due to patient’s social condition, we try to prescribe Generic drugs. It is inevitable for Georgia to import and expand Generic drug segment. By entering new pharmaceutical company, the competition on the Georgian market will increase, however it will take long time for Humanity Georgia to establish itself on Georgian market. Generally we have a great choice of drugs, that’s why the company needs to deliver highest quality drugs to succeed. Another doctor responded to existent condition
on Georgian pharmaceutical market and talked about the importance of increasing affordability of medicines. Giorgi Kvitashvli Gastroenterologist: “I try to use the brand name medications more often. The reason for this is the lack of quality control system of drugs in a country. I use those drugs, which I trust and have experienced. Of course, I welcome the new company HumanityGeorgia on the Georgian market market and think that assessing Indian or Turkish drugs as cheap quality medications is unprofessional, especially if it has a quality certificate.

ASHA Bank congratulated the charity organization First Step Georgia with New Year in a special way: the Bank donated a painting by Rusudan Petviashvili – “The Choice” to the fund with the right to sell it directly or via auction. The funds raised from the sale of the painting will be applied for the educational needs of children with intellectual and physical disabilities. Earlier this year PASHA Bank congratulated First Step Georgia with Easter and donated GEL 10 000 on behalf of its partners. “Corporate social responsibility is a significant part of PASHA Bank’s everyday life. We are more than happy to share our New Year joy with our partner companies as well as charity organization First Step Georgia. We hope that our small but kind gift will benefit the fund’s beneficiaries,”- said Shahin Mammadov, CEO at PASHA
Bank Georgia. “For more than seventeen years First Step Georgia is providing assistance to children and youth under eighteen years with severe and profound physical and mental disabilities, mostly from socially vulnerable families. In 2015, we started a new scholarship program under which any donor can choose a beneficiary in our organization and fund his or her studies and development programs. PASHA Bank was one of the first organizations to join this project.” – Tinatin Dolidze, Marketing Manager at First Step Georgia said. This gift is a huge support to us and we will use the funds received from selling this picture for the benefit of our children. On behalf of First Step Georgia, I would like to thank PASHA Bank once again for their good deeds that reflect the brands’s high social responsibility.

More Details Emerge on New Social Media Platform from Georgian Developers – Including its Name
I
n December 2015, Caucasus Business Week offered an exclusive scoop into early developments regarding an upcoming social media platform by a Georgian firm in conjunction with US tech experts. Now, the new project from the yet-anonymous creators finally has a name: SPRECT. The upcoming social network has an appropriately striking logo, with the people behind it promising strong symbolism and a solid brand identity once the full toolset is revealed. And what’s more exciting, they’re also promising a powerful new word in marketing, not just social networking systems. “Content delivery to the right people at the right time and at the right place is arguably the most crucial success indicator in businesses today, and it’s something we aim to revolutionize a fair bit. Think a new branch in marketing tools,” commented the head of the project during our visit to their office. The progressive SPRECT still remains largely mysterious, with more details to be unveiled as time passes. According to the developers, the platform is currently slated for a soft launch sometime in the next few months, and Caucasus Business Week will be covering the venture’s unfolding.
