In Spring 2014, students at MS 328 took an introduction to photography course. In this 7-week intensive, students explored the essentials of photography through techniques such as composition, juxtaposition, and contrast. Participants also learned about photographing inanimate objects, sports photography, portrait photography and photojournalism. Through photojournalistic efforts, students were tasked with capturing stories found around campus without being directly involved in the action. The workshop facilitated student learning in critical thinking and problem solving through age appropriate vocabulary and learning objectives. Students developed practical understanding of art concepts involved in photography and established a concrete understanding of the values of collaboration, diversity, acceptance, and critiques. The program was aided by a positive behavior support system, which encourages students to concentrate growth in the areas of CREATIVITY, COMMUNICATION, SELF-CONFIDENCE, and COOPERATION.
