25 YEARS OF ONGOING SUCCESS THAT’S FORMULA A quarter of a century ago, in 1987 Andrea Becocci and his wife Daniela founded FORMULA Italy in Prato near their home in the heart of the Tuscany. In those early days, Andrea and Daniela’s vision was to design and manufacture quality wheels and brakes for motorcycles. However, in 1993, with the development of mountain bike disc brakes, the direction and the history of the biking industry was altered, forever changing our definition of quality and precision. It is that same quality and precision that drives our passion and ultimately dictates what we’ve come to know and expect from FORMULA - excellence! In 1996, driven by the owners’ passion for hi-end technology, FORMULA was the first company to successfully produce and distribute hydraulic disc brakes for MTBs. These advances in technology have created a market crowded with competitors as well as professional riders and of course the ultimate hobbyist rider.
FORMULA was founded by Andrea Becocci and Daniela Frati
1987 MILESTONES OF SUCCESS
Passionate about competitive sports, the people of FORMULA continue to support the top teams around the globe with the best of FORMULA products. For more than two decades the best biking athletes have ridden - and won - with FORMULA products. FORMULA remains an independent family owned company and a leading competitor in the bicycle industry. Still headquartered in Italy, FORMULA’s growth these past 25 years includes subsidiaries in the US, Germany, France, Canada and Taiwan. These subsidiaries work closely together to provide unique and highly crafted bicycle components to bike riders around the world. With millions of FORMULA disc brakes assembled on leading bike brands internationally, FORMULA took on another challenge in 2010: the design and production of lightweight wheels and suspension forks! Today, FORMULA’s passion for quality and precision remain evident with a host of competitive products for your bike. Formula’s product line 2013 will again exceed your expectations in POWER, TECHNOLOGY and DESIGN.

Formula BRAKE TECHNOLOGY PISTON
Radial Master Cylinder • A radial master cylinder design eliminates bending forces caused by braking. Stronger with less weight. • The master cylinder piston travels inside the reservoir creating a more compact design. • The primary cup is fixed to the master cylinder body and is therefore 5X more resistant to wear and increases the quality and performance of the brake.
PRIMARY CUP
RESERVOIR
Formula Caliper • 1-Piece caliper body - Extra strong - More compact design - Light weight • Enhanced Caliper Technology - Increased roll back of the brake pads - Easy rub-free brake installation • New high-performance semi-metallic brake pad
FORMULA recommends to use Shell Donax DOT 4 ULTRA Brake Fluid. All Formula brakes feature a radial master cylinder and one piece caliper. This allows us to design a compact, lightweight, and very strong brake. With a fixed primary cup and a master cylinder piston that moves inside the reservoir we have achieved a very durable master cylinder compared to conventional designs. All brakes are easy to upgrade with our pad contact adjustment FCS, our tool free lever reach adjustment TFRA and MixMaster clamp.
DOT 4 BRAKE FLUID All FORMULA brakes are designed for use with DOT 4 fluid. DOT 4 has a higher boiling point than mineral oil and therefore increases fade resistance by being less hygroscopic than DOT5.1. DOT 4 is safe on all FORMULA seals and aluminum parts.

TOP performance
Great performance and a feathery weight make the R1 the premier XC race brake on today’s market. Still, the R1 generates more than enough power and performance for an All Mountain or Enduro use. The forged master cylinder body and caliper provide increased modulation, braking power and durability, while the R1’s patented caliper piston system increases fluid capacity in the caliper providing stability and fade resistance even on the longest descents. New for 2013: Enhanced Caliper Technology (ECT) for higher rollback and easy installation.

Rotors
FCS (Feeling Control System) The FCS valve is available for all 2013 FORMULA brakes (standard for RO and T1). It allows for an adjustment of the lever’s contact-point (free-throw) to suit the rider’s personal preference and ergonomic needs. The FCS is available in anodized red, gold or black.
SPEED LOCK The SpeedLock is the revolutionary new feature for your brake hose. An easy click connects and disconnects the hose from caliper or master cylinder - without losing a drop of brake fluid it makes the internal hose routing an easy task. This feature is available in three options (caliper, master cylinder, and in-line connect) and can be used for all FORMULA brakes.
LEVER INTEGRATED TFRA (Tool Free Reach Adjust) Standard on the R1, T1, and RO and optional for the RX brake, this easy to use feature allows a tool-free adjustment of the lever reach (resting position) to suit the rider’s personal preference. The TFRA adjustment knob is integrated into the lever for increased durability and is available in anodized red, gold, or silver. The TFRA lever blade has the same ergonomics as the standard lever blade.
