JA Company Programme

The Nuts and Bolts

Duration: The JA Company Programme runs for a total of 18 weeks from mid-October to mid-March. All school holidays are blackout dates for the Programme.

Group Size: We expect 250-300 students in the Programme in Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac. We hope to have 15 advisor companies who will host, guide, and support 16 students each.

Company Advisors: The advisor company needs at least 6 advisors to cover the student officer positions. Typically, one advisor will mentor the President, VP Finance, VP Marketing, VP HR, VP Production and VP Public Relations each to help the students understand and fulfill their roles as Officers in the company. The advisors also provide adult support to the entire group. Each company pays a fee of 135$ which can be paid by the student companies or the advisor companies.

Weekly Meetings: Each week the students meet after school at the advisor company's offices for 2.5 hours on a weeknight (Monday to Thursday) determined by the advisors.

Refreshments: The advisor company will provide a light dinner for the students each week. Based on previous groups, this is approximately $300 per week on average. This is largely influenced by the number of students and advisors participating.

Training: JA provides an in-depth Advisor Training which is scheduled for September 21, 2024. This training session is very informative and is a great opportunity for advisors to network with fellow advisors from across various organizations - many of whom are very experienced and helpful. Advisors are strongly encouraged to attend. A breakfast snack and lunch will be provided.

Support: The Recruitment and Training Committee (RAT) are experienced JA Board members who are assigned to mentor the JA companies for advisor support. The RAT members visit on average 4-5 times per year unless more visits are requested - this is common. The RAT members are there to support the advisor team in all areas. The JA Programme Director also has direct contact with a lead advisor elected from the advisor team who provides ongoing support and information.

Awards Ceremony: The Annual Awards Ceremony held in May has a cost of $50.00 per student attending and $75 per advisor attending which is billed to the advisor company. In total, the financial commitment for sponsorship is $2500. This is an average of all groups in past JA years.

Application Process: 1. Standards of conduct form - returned to JA Cayman via email.

2. Police Clearance Certificate - Can be obtained electronically (https://shorturl.at/bcgU3).

3. Darkness to Light Training - All JA advisors are required to compete this 2.5 hour programme which sensitizes adults to issues of sexual, emotional, and physical abuse: boundaries when interacting with minors; ways of recognizing potential or existing threats of abuse against minors; appropriate steps to protect minors from threats or actual abuse.
