APPLICATION PROCESS Every business student chooses at least one concentration, much like a major, as part of their Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Concentration options include: »» Accounting »» Banking and Financial Markets »» Business Finance »» Economics »» Entrepreneurship »» General Management »» Human Resource Management »» International Business »» Investment Science and Portfolio Management »» Legal Studies »» Marketing »» Real Estate and Land Use Economics »» Supply Chain Management

To apply to the Scholars Academy, the applicant must be coming in as a freshman in CBA for the 2019-2020 academic year and must submit: A COVER LET TER This should be an introduction to the applicant and share why their experiences, interests, and passions will make them a good fit for the Academy.

This should demonstrate commitment to the community and school through volunteer service and extracurricular activities.

THREE LET TERS OF REFERENCE These letters should endorse the applicant’s teamwork and leadership skills. The top 40 applicants will be invited to Mammel Hall for an interview day held on March 1, 2019. Twenty of those will be selected for the next cohort. The selection committee looks for candidates who demonstrate commitment, passion, character, generosity, initiative, and academic excellence. Any high school senior interested in business is encouraged to apply. In addition to evidence of the above traits, the committee takes into consideration applicants’ high school GPA, class rank, and ACT (or SAT) score.

CALLING FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS The College of Business Administration (CBA) Scholars Academy is a community where high-achieving students develop their strengths, challenge their minds, engage with others, and invest in their futures. Within a close-knit community of ambitious and high-achieving students, Scholars challenge themselves while pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Throughout the four years in the program, Scholars are mentored by professionals in the Omaha community, enroll in special business courses taught by award-winning faculty, and gain real-world experience through community engagement and international travel.

SCHOLARSHIPS Through donor gifts, every Scholar receives a minimum $4,000 annual scholarship, for a total of $16,000. These scholarships may be stacked with most other scholarships and financial aid packages.

The application opens for the 2019 freshman cohort at cba.unomaha.edu/scholars.

FEBRUARY 1, 2019

Application closes at midnight. Late submissions, including letters of recommendation, are not accepted.

ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES Scholars come from diverse backgrounds, bring a variety of strengths, and have a wide range of personalities. While Scholars must be pursuing a degree within the College of Business Administration, the range of career goals and interests is vast. During the selection process, the committee looks for incoming freshmen who would most likely demonstrate the following traits if chosen: Commitment » Scholars are committed to their educations and put forth their best work in the classroom, challenging themselves while expanding their knowledge.

» They are committed to their futures and make those investments now.

» Scholars are committed to each other and participate enthusiastically in the program. Passion » Passion is giving more than what is required. Different individuals carry their passion differently; sometimes it’s loud, sometimes it’s not. No matter the style, it means going the extra mile.

FEBRUARY 23, 2019 The top 40 applicants are invited to Interview Day.

Character » Scholars want to make the world a better place, not just for themselves but for others as well. Generosity » Because others believe in the program and make investments in it, Scholars are given many perks including scholarships, mentorship, and other unique opportunities. Scholars are expected to pay-it-forward by being generous with their time and their talents. Initiative » Scholars are go-getters. They don’t wait for others to make their dreams a reality.
