DUX ASSEMBLY 7 JANUARY 2012 This week the College community celebrated 2011 academic achievement with our annual Dux assembly. It was a pleasure to welcome back 2011 Graduates and their parents/grandparents to listen to our 2011 Dux Jordan Barricelli narrate his CBC story which is one of courage, discovery, challenge and inspiration. In my Principal’s address I stated Even as a boy Jesus knew the importance of learning. He respected his teachers and saw deep value in the power of learning to change the world. But learning and education are not enough. There are many successful men and women throughout history who did not complete school but went on to change the world. There were also many people who were duxes of their own schools and universities, brilliant minds, physicists, engineers and doctors who despite their vast knowledge used their knowledge and education for evil. The engineers of concentration camps in Nazi Germany are just one example. Knowledge without wisdom is inhuman. The Gospel challenge, which is also the CBC challenge, is to use what we learn to ensure that we are people of faith, excellence, community and compassion to make our planet a better place. Only then will knowledge give us the wisdom and humanity we need to create a world
