schools in South Australia. During the meetings we discussed the national and international education agenda, student wellbeing issues, staff professional development, governance and leadership.
From The Principal Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Mother’s Day It was a pleasure to celebrate Mother’s Day with our mothers, guardians, grandmothers and great grandmothers at the Junior Campus last Friday. Our guests shared in a welcome song by Reception students followed by a prayer and flower giving ceremony. This Sunday’s readings at Mass remind us that our mothers are indeed awesome because they are created in the image of God. Let us pray this week for all mothers and in the words of St Paul that “…you may know what is the hope to which he (God) has called you.”
Meeting of Independent Principals This week I return to my desk after a visit to New Zealand with principal colleagues from independent
Two principal colleagues from Christchurch shared their experience of the demolition of their schools in the recent earthquakes. In an article on page 26 of Monday’s Advertiser this week, reports estimate it will cost over $1 billion to rebuild the schools damaged by earthquakes in Christchurch. I was grateful for the insights gained in crisis management which will help me to ensure even tighter policies and practices are documented, implemented and reviewed regularly at CBC.
Open Day Parents are reminded that Open Day for both the CBC Senior and Junior Campus is this Sunday 20 May from 11.00am until 2.00pm. All students are welcome to attend but must do so in full winter uniform.
Old Collegians News Last week Deputy Principal Mr Shaun Clarke, Heritage, Community and Marketing Officer Mrs Weiss and I hosted a lunch for our ‘senior’ Old Collegians at the Public Schools Club. Over 30 past Collegians including former CBC Principal Br Patrick Cronin, Fr Anthony Kain and Br James Murray were in attendance. Our Year 12

College Captains greeted our special guests and shared lunch with us. Br Barry Donoghue (Old Collegian 1961-64) visited the College last week and toured both campuses. Br Barry was a gifted academic and accomplished CBC student competing in gymnastics, rowing, and football. He also participated in the CBC Army Cadet program which was very popular at that time. His three brothers also attended CBC. This week we also welcome Oliver Harms, student teacher from Adelaide University who is undertaking his final teaching practicum at the College. Oliver graduated from CBC in 2007.
Year 12 Research Project Last week Year 12 student Aaron Batic gave a very insightful and professional briefing to all CBC staff on his Year 12 Research Project. His research topic involved an analysis of the distinction between street art and graffiti. Members of staff and I were highly impressed by the quality of Aaron’s presentation both in terms of content and delivery. The premise of his argument was that: “The mosaic upon which we form a basis for legal conduct is flawed: pieces are missing. On the Street, we are all artists and as artists we must fill in these empty gaps.” Aaron’s presentation highlighted the diversity of topics covered by the Research project, the academic rigour involved in this task and the talent of our CBC students.
