Book Week Acitvities at the Junior Campus
spoke to students at the Senior Campus and a ComicCon display was set up in the Paul McGuire Library where students could view and purchase comic books. Thank you to both Mrs Sandra Mason and Mrs Caroline Wilson, our librarians who organised the week.
From The Acting Principal Dear Parents and Caregivers, This week is Book Week. The theme of the week is “Champions Read” and coincides with the London Olympic Games. The purpose of the Children’s Book Week is to promote reading for students as an activity that entertains, informs, develops creativity and reading skills and reinforces that libraries are great places for learning. In 1922 the philosopher, Ludwig Wittgenstein, stated that “The limits of my language mean the limits of my world”. Our ability to read and write allows us to communicate effectively with others and opens our world to great possibilities. The College community this week has celebrated Book Week with activities at both the Junior and Senior Campuses. This has included a reading marathon, reading mob, feast for champions and rotation activities at the Junior Campus. David Maher a comic author
Sports Day – SANTOS Stadium Parents are reminded that the whole school Sports Day will occur on Tuesday 4 September at the SANTOS Stadium. All students at the Junior Campus will be transported by bus to and from the venue. All students at the Senior Campus will need to find their own way to and from the stadium on the day. Sports Day will commence at 9.00am. All students are required to wear their “House” colour. This day is not optional for students and any student absent on the day will be required to produce a medical certificate. A letter outlining the details of the day will be sent home to all students.
Catholic School Funding The Australian government is currently reviewing funding for all schools and it is likely that the new funding arrangements will be debated in the Federal Parliament later this year. These new arrangements could have significant consequences for the funding received by our school. I believe it is vital that you are aware of the facts about

school funding and are able to actively defend the right of our school to the funding it needs to continue to offer a quality education, while keeping our fees as low as possible. There has already been a lot of misinformation about school funding in the media. In particular, claims have been made that Catholic and other non-government schools receive more funding than State schools. These claims are simply wrong. Students in Catholic schools on average receive only about 80% of the government funding provided to students in government schools. I encourage you to view the video on you tube Catholic school funding in Australia prepared by the Queensland Catholic Education Commission. Over the coming weeks, I will also provide you with more detailed information about funding in our school newsletter. I encourage you to take an active interest in this information and be ready to participate in this funding debate. More information about Catholic school funding can be found at: www.fundinginfo.catholic. edu.au. This site will be revised in the next week or so to respond to the Government’s anticipated funding announcements. You may have seen the headlines in the Sunday Mail, “Funding Shock: 248 SA schools at risk”. We would like to make it clear that the Government has not yet released its school funding model in response to the Gonski Report. The figures obtained from the
