Six years ago then Prime Minister Rudd took a noble step for our nation, a transformative step and one that was essential in progressing our national efforts for reconciliation, justice and healing.
From The Principal Dear Parents, Friends and Caregivers,
2014 Apology Breakfast On Thursday, students, staff and visiting parents participated in Apology Day breakfast ceremonies on each campus. The morning began with an acknowledgement of country in respect to the Kaurna people, the traditional custodians upon whose land our College rests. The breakfast liturgies also paid respect to the 17 students from Indigenous backgrounds who are currently enrolled. In a National Apology to the Stolen Generations Anniversary Breakfast speech on Friday 7 February 2014, Indigenous elder Leah Armstrong from Boigu in the Torres Straits said:
…And it was right because it became the basis for us to create the kind of respectful relationships that we need to build a country which both recognises the past but looks forward to a future where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are respected; where our languages and culture and traditional knowledge are cherished. A future that encompasses our vision of a reconciled, just and equitable Australia where all Australians are able to achieve their full potential. There are those who argue a false dichotomy between so-called symbolic aspects of reconciliation and practical issues like health, employment and education.
This week let us pray for peace and justice in our world. Let us pray for harmony and understanding in our families, our schools and our community.
Christian Brothers College – Innovative and Contemporary Education The Wellbeing Team under the inspiration and leadership of Assistant Principal Wellbeing Ian Hamilton has launched three significant programs this month.
Justice and Solidarity
We are committed to justice and peace for all, grounded in a spirituality of action and reflection that calls us to stand in solidarity with those who are marginalised and the Earth itself.

Odyssey Program: The Odyssey program recognises the importance of celebrating rites of passage with our boys and redefining masculinity for the 21st Century. Staff, students and parents responded enthusiastically to the workshops on mateship, preparing for middle school, identity, learning styles and self-esteem. The Odyssey program was developed in response to the high risk-taking behaviours and over representation of males in accidents and injuries. They believe that by strengthening boys’ sense of self and encouraging them to question the one dimensional view society has of masculinity, we can assist boys to be responsible and healthy young men.
Elevate Program: The aim of the Elevate program is for our students to be better organised and strategic in their study and work habits. We have developed a series of year level workshops in conjunction with Elevate Education to support our students. Topics include: student motivation, goal setting, time management and effective study skills.
Restorative Justice: This program emanates from our CBC 2013-15 Strategic Plan and is a major focus for 2014. It is very fitting as we celebrate national Apology Day that we
