ROOM C-301

Beyond the Colorful Halls When someone walks into a new church, the children’s area is usually distinguished by things like colorful halls, exciting signage, or child-like decorations. And certainly, a lot of children’s ministry happens in the colorful halls. But how does children’s ministry expand beyond the colorful halls and into other areas of the church? How does children’s ministry expand beyond the colorful halls and into the family home? How does children’s ministry expand beyond the colorful halls and into the community? In this workshop, we will look at why children’s ministry needs to expand beyond the colorful halls and brainstorm together some practical ways to make this happen.

ROOM C-102

Healthy Minister Searches that Value All Candidates, Including Women Minister search teams in the 21st century are finding the search process landscape changing rapidly. Not only has the life of the congregation undergone massive changes, so have the candidates and processes for finding those candidates. Search teams need a thoughtful spiritual base, must know their congregation well, have a firm grasp of their context, and need clarity as to where their church is going. Navigating those challenges along with the denominational and theological upheaval of the American church, the influence of secular politics, the emergence of excellent female candidates, the ever-changing nature of theological education, and a host of other issues make a healthy plan and approach essential for success. Our time together will describe a healthy search process and will feature a guest appearance by a recently called North Carolina female pastor (Greystone’s Chrissy WIlliamson at 9:00 a.m. and First Baptist Smithfield’s Kristen Tucker at 10:45 a.m.) and the chair of the respective committees that led to those calls.

Engaging Youth & Young Adults Many churches in America have seen a precipitous decline in attendance over the past 30 years. In more recent years, the 18-35 demographic has been waning in attendance, more than any other group in church membership and attendance. This workshop presents practical strategies and tools in engaging the Young Adults, who are connected to our church community. Using the acronym, C.U.T.E, the presenter suggests four ways in engaging Youth and Young Adults, by “Being”: Culturally Sensitive; Understanding of New Trends; Transformational in communicating doctrine; and, Encouraging to All generations.

Congregational Life Cycles and Trajectories ROOM C-101

Congregations typically grow and develop in similar ways, but at different speeds. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted this cycle for many congregations. This workshop will help you identify where your congregation is in its life cycle, and share some ways to set your congregation on a trajectory for thriving.

Loving God in the Darkness ROOM C-104

Since the beginning of the Christian era, believers have used the term “darkness” to mean absence of good and absence of God. What does a faithful believer do when they suffer and cannot find God’s presence? This workshop details a life story, the feeling of God’s absence, and describes a way to be faithful to God while feeling overcome by darkness. The workshop is for both laity, pastors, and scholars alike, and it can speak to the needs of each.

We will emphasize the concrete practice of justice, mercy, respect, and tolerance as paradigms that we see in Ruth. We will address some similarities from Ruth as an immigrant with our current situation as immigrants in USA and then we will provide some biblical and theological answers that we should consider in our ministry.

So You Have a Volunteer Problem? ROOM C-305 & C-307

No matter where you are, the size of your church, or the context of your congregation, volunteers are the lifeblood of any ministry. Without them programs fail, ministries struggle, and quality suffers. Any church that fails to recruit and retain the next generation of volunteers is going to face struggles in making their ministry a reality. In this workshop, we will not only explore ways to recruit new volunteers but how to create a culture where volunteers thrive and are engaged.

Do you feel like you’re spinning your wheels when it comes to social media? Are you questioning its place as part of your communications efforts? In this workshop, learn what to do if your church decides to opt out of social media and how to use social media as ministry (not marketing) if you opt in. You will discover how to be strategy-driven instead of content-driven in the social media space so you remain focused on the needs of those meeting you there instead of merely promoting the perceived needs of the church. This new-to-you approach will result in increased engagement, greater reach, and more effective ministry!

The Book of Job as Comedy How to read the book of Job and all its disparate parts well has long been the quest of Job scholars. In recent years, scholars have increasingly identified elements of comedy within the book, satire, parody, etc. How might it change our interpretation of the book of Job if we understood it as a comedy? Not as something humorous, but as a classic literary technique to challenge people’s often wrongly held beliefs about God and suffering.

Many churches in America have seen a precipitous decline in attendance over the past 30 years.

CBFNC Proposed Mission & Ministry Funding Plan

THE

GOD W H O

S E E S G E NE S IS 1 6 : 1 3

2022–2023 CBFNC is grateful for the faithful, generous support of our fellowship. In spite of the challenges posed by two years of a global pandemic, CBFNC’s financial health remains strong. The proposed 2022-2023 Mission and Ministry Funding Plan maintains a level of spending that has been in place since 2020. The 2022-2023 proposed MMFP is noteworthy for several reasons:

Income Sources – Churches supply the lion’s share of CBFNC’s income. However, other income sources are growing significantly as many churches are unable to give at the same levels as in the past. These non-church income sources include: individuals, grants, investment earnings, sponsorships and fees. The 2022-2023 proposed MMFP includes funding from all of these sources. Partners – Partner ministries are distributed among CBFNC’s four major ministry priorities. Allocations were developed by CBFNC’s Partnership Development Committee, based on several factors: alignment with CBFNC identity and values; partner reports; historical precedent; and maximum percentage of partner budget (25%). CBFNC’s support for partners is noteworthy for several reasons:

The 2022-2023 MMFP includes $1,028,500 for partners and their ministries. This amount is 46% of undesignated church contributions to CBFNC during 2021. CBFNC gives as much to partners as all other CBF organizations combined (Global and other state/regional CBF organizations). In addition to budgeted amounts, CBFNC passed through $94,061 in designated gifts to partners in 2021.

Personnel – Most CBFNC staff costs are actually classified as ministry expenses. Still, personnel costs are only 30% of the total, a very low ratio among churches and non-profit organizations.

The Coordinating Council unanimously recommends the 2022-2023 Mission and Ministry Funding Plan for adoption during the Annual Business Meeting of the Annual Gathering..

OFFERING

S E E S G E NE S IS 1 6 : 1 3

Each year at Annual Gathering, we collect an offering. This year’s offering is dedicated to CBFNC’s ministries of engaging students and young adults. A highlight of this year’s Annual Gathering will be honoring Wanda Kidd, CBFNC collegiate engagement coordinator, who has shaped our campus ministry program for the last 15 years and will be retiring at the end of March. Inspired by Wanda, we at CBFNC feel called to extend this ministry to young people who are currently not being served. This will of course require us to expand our programming and staffing, and so we are dedicating this year’s Annual Gathering offering to young adult ministry. Thank you for your contribution to this year’s offering to ensure that CBFNC continues to have the resources it needs to extend our campus/young adult ministries!

You may give online at CBFNC.ORG/TheGodWhoSees. You may give by check or cash during either General Session

at the in-person gathering at Trinity Baptist by placing your gift in the collection plates located in the back of the Sanctuary. You may also mail your donation to:
